THE NEW BRATVA CAPTAIN

CHAPTER 15: A Queen's Legacy

It was a little odd to see Robert Queen, Walter Steele and Moira Queen in the same room.

Robert Queen and Moira Queen were married, had two children and lived a relatively happy life balancing the Bratva and Queen Consolidated efficiently until that unfortunate accident that was now corroborated as the handiwork of the Chinese Triad under the helm of China White.

Moira later married her first husband's best friend Walter Steele, who stood as father figure to young Thea Queen and mentor to his best friend's oldest child Oliver. Walter had proven that he was a good stepfather, a great one even taking over much of the responsibility for QC since the Queen's, mother and son, had the Bratva to contend with.

Seeing Robert, Walter and Moira together, none of them feeling any awkwardness at the situation they found themselves in, had made the other occupants of the room relaxed and comforted.

Of course none of them had been present earlier when Robert and Moira had a very, very long talk that was followed by a talk between Robert and Walter and then and only then were all the others invited to join the trio.

Moira had told the others who had been asked to join them later that Walter and her have decided to stay together as husband and wife, there was no doubt that theirs was the romantic kind of love anyway, so there was hardly any surprise to this announcement.

Robert's unexpected return had done little to upend Moira and Walter's marriage. Moira had dutifully done her part during the day that Robert had been 'found', being by his side and Walter had taken a step back. But it was clear, at least between the three of them that there was nothing but friendship, deep friendship left between Robert and Moira and Robert had whole-heartedly accepted that his wife and moved on with his best friend with not even an ounce of jealousy or anger. He was actually happy that his ex-wife and best friend had found love.

So now, hours later, Robert stood at the steps of the Bratva estate together with his son Oliver and Felicity Smoak as they all saw Walter, Moira and Thea Queen off, having finished off a family dinner between the six of them.

During the days that followed, the lives of the Oliver and Felicity had returned to a semblance of normalcy, as normal as can be when you were running the Bratva and an integral part of QC.

Anatoly had stayed on for just a few more days were deals were brokered with the newly invigorated version of the Chinese Triad as well as talks started with factions of the Italians and the gangster community.

With the upheaval within the Triad brought about by China White's demise, the order of power in the shadows had shifted and the Bratva was now recognized as the most powerful underground organization for those in the know.

After a series of meetings within the Bratva with Anatoly, he had finally accepted Felicity's choice to step down as the Bratva Captain and take a more active role within QC much to the delight of Moira Queen who recognized Felicity's skill and what was best for the future of QC. Felicity was unanimously vetoed by the Board as VP and senior head of Applied Sciences Division, the visionary of QC spearheading technological and medical advancements.

That left a vacuum in the Bratva leadership that was filled by Oliver Queen who simultaneously also held the position of CEO of QC on top of assuming the role as Bratva Captain.

With Oliver's plate full, Moira Queen continued her position as Chairman of the Board and Walter Steele retained his position as CFO aiding both Oliver and Felicity in investor relations.

Robert for his part, had taken a council role within the Bratva, a position created by Anatoly himself. His duties and responsibilities covered overseeing the whole North and South America operations of the Bratva which was initially rejected by the many Captains but they had all toed the line when Anatoly had finally put his foot down on the grumblings. With 40% of the Bratva holdings and operations centered on the America's, the Russian pakhan needed a senior man who he trusted. Robert Queen fit the bill to a T.

It was hard to believe that a few months back, everyone's life was so different.

Oliver still couldn't believe this was his life now. He was working hard now more than ever, pulling double duty between QC and the Bratva business. There were nights that all he could do was crawl to bed. But he was happy. Happier than he thought he could ever be.

His father was alive, and between them they had an even better relationship as father and son. He even had weekly dinners with his mother, his sister and his step father at his former home, the Queen Mansion.

Everything good that had happened in his life, every positive change, could be traced back to the one person who brought the sunshine and made him want to be better everyday, his Felicity.

What was between them was stronger than ever, love. The kind of love that made Oliver want to fight to live. For her, for him, for their future together….for the family that they would still build in the future.

It was one of those nights that had Oliver stepping inside the room he and Felicity shared at half past one in the morning, tie hanging loose, clearly exhausted but as soon as he caught sight of Felicity asleep on the King size bed, so peaceful with her golden hair spread out and her arm reaching out to his side of the bed as if searching for him in her sleep.

Oliver stepped toward his light, he couldn't help it, his body would always seek hers out when it sensed she was nearby.

He quickly went about his routine of preparing for bed, his body screaming for her warmth to envelope him that when finally he laid down on his side of the bed and pulled her body to his he sighed a bit too loudly rousing her from her sleep.

"Hey, did you just get back? What time is it?" Felicity blinked at him before she pressed herself even closer to him, giving his chest a few kisses as she mumbled something about missing her pillow.

Oliver kissed her hair and just told her it was almost two in the morning and for her to go back to sleep which she happily did but not before mumbling again that he worked too hard.

Right there and then, he formulated a plan in his brain. Though it had only been a few months since Felicity and he had met, he was 100% sure that she was the one for him, irrevocably. He loved the woman currently wrapped in his arms and wanted all of it with her.

Falling asleep with her beside him, waking up next to her, building a home with her where future generations of the Smoak-Queens would live. He even dreamed of the day when Felicity Smoak would take his name and make him the happiest man on earth, Felicity Meghan Queen.

He set his plan into action. He didn't want to wait any longer, not when he knew in his heart of hearts that she was the one.

So less than six months from the day he officially met Felicity Smoak, he got down on one knee in front of his parents, step father, sister and close friend John Diggle and proposed. The squeal of delight and the tears of joy that quickly showed on his future wife's face, not to mention the shouted Yes was everything he hoped for.

Today, nine months to the day they had met, he only had eyes for his girl as she walked toward him in her white lace wedding dress surrounded by family, their closest friends and a few QC executives.

A few of the top brass of the Bratva including the pakhan himself was also in attendance, Anatoly who was smiling from ear to ear and was in high spirits, he had loved the bride as if she was his own child since he had none of his own. His eyes had widened when he was introduced to the mother of the bride, Donna Smoak and couldn't believe she looked so young, telling her so sending Donna blushing and Anatoly staring at her like a schoolboy.

When the I do's were finally pronounced and the ceremony was over, Oliver had lifted his bride to the air spinning her around several times before he finally put her down and gave her a long passionate kiss unmindful of the several guests who had started clapping and cheering at the very public show of affection of the groom.

Three children and twenty five years later, they celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary less a lot of their loved ones and family.

Robert Queen had passed ten years ago followed by Moira who passed five years ago the same year that Anatoly did, after finally marrying Donna Smoak ten years earlier and enjoying every bit of married life.

Oliver had been Chairman of the Board for more than ten years and Felicity Smoak has been CEO of QC the same number of years. With Robert's demise ten years ago, the Bratva leadership had shifted much to the secret delight of both Oliver and Felicity who had wanted the next generation of Queens to be as far away from the Russian mob connection as possible.

A rising Bratva family had replaced the Queen's as the most powerful American clan connected with the Bratva which Anatoly had in the beginning grudgingly accepted, fully respecting the request of the Queens to have a more diminished role with the Bratva.

The three Queen siblings had also grown into their own persons. Robert Jonas Queen, Oliver and Felicity's oldest was now twenty three years of age and had taken QC by storm under the stewardship of his mother. A top MIT graduate just like his mother, he was at an early age already being groomed to take over QC.

Twenty year old Meghan Queen had just graduated the university and was already making a name for herself as a top designer and fashion blogger under the tutelage of her aunt Thea.

The youngest at seventeen, Colton Queen was taking a totally different direction early on by excelling in sports. Currently, he was the star quarterback of the Starling City Jets and was already being scouted by top Colleges and Universities to play for them. His eye was set of making the sport a career much to the delight of his father who had once, almost a different lifetime ago, dabbled in football for all of one semester.

The perfect family. The perfect life. This was the life that Oliver Queen had lived out during the last twenty six years in his life and it looked like both Felicity and him still had quite a long way to go, both still very much in love and committed the way they had been to one another for the longest time.

They were dancing in the middle of the dance floor as all the guests looked on, Felicity molded in his arms as they quietly swayed to the music. They had just renewed their vows to one another and were at the reception of their anniversary party.

A moment later Oliver felt a tap on his shoulder and found his eldest son RJ Queen gesturing for him to move aside since he wanted to dance with his mom. His only daughter Meg had also stepped forward anticipating that her father would need a dance partner now that their mother was in the arms of her brother.

"It's almost sickening that way you and Mom are still after all this years but everytime I see you two together I can't help but want that for me too." Meg told her Dad as the danced.

Oliver kissed his daughter at the cheek before he responded, "that someone is out there, I'm sure of it. You'll meet him when you least expect it. I met your Mom that way you know, it was Anatoly who actually found her for me even though she was already working at QC that time. Fate stepped in," Oliver said chancing a look at his wife who was dancing with their oldest son smiling at something their son was saying to her.

"I love you Daddy."

"I love you too Meg and please don't go looking for Mr. Right just yet. Give your Dad a few more years with you, your only twenty you're not old enough to have a boyfriend much less get married."

"Dad…" Meg gave her Dad a pout. She and her Dad had several talks about boys and boyfriend through the years, he wanted her to stay as his little girl protected from the 'evil' young boys of the world but she was wise beyond her years. She had boyfriends in the past who she had introduced to her parents, the same ones her Dad had given the evil eye to.

But Meg was also her mother's daughter, so she was balanced off properly with a good brain on her head as well as good looks that earned her the title of cheerleading captain in high school and prom queen. Fresh out of the university, she had elected to start her own fashion brand of jewelry and trinkets currently being sold exclusively at her aunts fashion house called Queen's closet.

"Daddy, I don't have plans of getting married anytime soon. I'm still going to conquer the world with my fashion brand. I'm going to run the world."

A few feet away, Felicity was having a serious conversation with her oldest son.

"I'm going to propose to her next week, I know she's the one," RJ told his mother.

"I approve, if my approval is what you're after. She's a nice girl. They're a nice family. Have you told your Dad of your plans yet?"

"No, not yet."

Felicity gave her son a searching look, "you nervous of what he might think?"

RJ only nodded.

"Don't be, I'm the best example of that. He doesn't care about social status or her family's history. All he would care about is that she makes you happy and we can both see that she does. Evelyn has come far too in her own way, not because of her attachment to you or QC but because she worked hard to get where she is now. If she makes you happy, then I don't know why you haven't proposed yet," Felicity finished giving her son a stern look.

RJ just leaned in to kiss his mother's cheek and searched the room for his Evelyn before saying, "I will be proposing next weekend, I got it all planned out. And I'd want you and Dad and Meg and Colton too, I checked already he doesn't have a game next weekend."

"We will be there, all of us. Oh My God, I can't believe it. My son is getting married!" Felicity squeezed her son with a hug, "please don't make me a grandma yet."

RJ smiled at her, "we haven't really talked about kids yet what with her schedule but, I would like kids of my own in the future. She's my you, Mom. I want what you and Dad have, she's the one for me."

"That's all you Dad and I need to know son, now go dance with my future daughter-in-law."

RJ signaled for his youngest brother to step forward and finish the dance with their mother, the brothers have always been close despite the differences in age and interest, something that both Felicity and Oliver were thankful for.

"Hey Mom," Colton said by way of greeting.

"Hey yourself."

"Did I tell you already that you look very beautiful tonight Mom," Colton told his Mom.

Felicity rolled her eyes at her youngest son punching him playfully on the chest, "I'm not one of the girls you want to impress son, I'm your Mom you don't have to lay on the charm with me."

"But you are, really. You always protest when we compliment you but it's true. Even after twenty five, Dad still can't keep his eyes away from you," Colton pointed to his father using his chin and Felicity easily followed her son's line of vision and yes, although he was now dancing with his own sister Thea, he was indeed looking at her making Thea roll her own eyes and pull her brother towards them.

"Let's change partners, Colton come over here. I don't know how you can stand living in the same house as your parents, the way they are sickeningly sweet with one another still gives me a toothache," Thea said pulling her nephew Colton with her.

Once Felicity and Oliver were back in eachothers arms again, Felicity leaned into his chest and gave a sigh of contentment, "I love you."

Oliver pulled her even closer to him, "I love you more."

They lived to celebrate another milestone in their lives, their Golden Wedding anniversary surrounded by their children and grandchildren and two great grandchildren courtesy of RJ's oldest son.

Life had remained good for them and their family.

Queen Consolidated had remained a company to be reckoned with even more so after RJ had taken on the role of CEO from his Dad ten years ago. His wife Evelyn had also put Starling City on the map for another reason altogether.

When RJ had first met his future wife Evelyn, she was working at a coffee shop as a waitress. RJ had been immediately smitten by her but it had been a long courtship primarily because Evelyn has turned down RJ so many times thinking that there were too many obstacles between them for them to work. RJ had made it his mission to tear down all her walls and prove to her that this wasn't just a passing fancy for him.

It took him sometime but RJ won her heart but while they were exclusively dating, Evelyn had told him that she would continue working on her own goals. While RJ's path was to one day takeover QC, hers was to one day own her own coffee shop with her hard earned money. And she did it without the Queen money or any influence using the Queen name, if there was one thing about Evelyn, she was a woman of principles. What started as one coffee shop, expanded into five more within Starling in the span of the first three years. Today, Evelyn owned a chain of coffee shops that had expanded beyond Starling that was a respected brand.

In the end, Oliver Queen had passed away at age 83 surrounded by his family, his loving wife of 56 years beside him until his last breath. It wasn't surprising that Felicity Queen died under a year after her husband's passing. Such was there love. Felicity just couldn't recover from losing the love of her life and wanted to be with him in the afterlife.

I thought it was fitting to fast forward to the life Oliver and Felicity shared after all the family and Bratva drama showcasing in excerpts the life they lived during the next fifty or so years.

To all of you who have followed this story, thank you. It has been a journey for me writing my first and last Bratva Olicity story. As always, we broaden our horizons on future plot bunnies. A lot of them are playing around in my head right now.
