AUTHOR'S NOTE: It has been a year since I last updated and still people are asking me to carry this fiction on. I have no excuse other than university and my job, but now that I have free time I have decided to continue. That being said, I have written a chapter by chapter summary for those of you who wish to continue reading, but do not want to re-read all 11 chapters. This recap will be deleted and replaced with Chapter 12 when it is ready to go up. I have done research on my last 11 chapters and will try to continue as accurately as possible.
Chapter by Chapter Summary
Chapter 1 - Beatrice: The war between factions never happened and we are now two years on from Beatrice Prior's initiation. The feelings between Tris and Four have remained unspoken and Tris has gained a position as far away from Four as possible, the City Security. However, Tris trades down from City Security Leader to an Initiate Trainer and tension builds between the two because Four is still an initiate trainer.
New character's who are not in the book are introduced. Alex is introduced as a handsome brute who beats another initiate, Drew, to an inch of his life. Alongside this event, the Dauntless faction is raided by a case of food poisoning, so Will asks Tris to cover their friend, Mack, on the night shift of the City Security.
Chapter 2 - Tobias: Four stumbles into the training room whilst Tris is throwing knives. He offers to cover the shift she is covering and also offers her his apartment to sleep in as Christina has food poisoning and he won't be in there. Later that evening when Four covers her shift he has a quarrel with Will and Will mentions that Tris likes him. He finds Tris later that night in his room, she had taken him up on his offer. He reads into it and chooses to believe what Will has told him.
Chapter 3 – Beatrice: Tris trains the initiates alone the following day because Christina has food poisoning and Four hasn't turned up. The initiate, Alex, who she thought was the brute leader, befriends another one called Chris and she soon realizes that he is in fact the brute. Chris urges Alex to fight Tris and as a consequence she breaks his nose as recompense for him beating Drew. Uriah then informs Tris that Eric broke his leg on day one of taking her position.
Later that evening Tris and Four talk. Four tells Tris that he can't afford to be her friend and in distaste Tris leaves. She joins her friends who joke about Four being a brute, Tris defends Four, but he overhears the wrong part and the two argue.
The following day Chris taunts Tris and she beats him, but Four puts a stop to it. He makes Tris control her anger through whacking golf balls, he tells her not to leave and trusts that she won't.
Chapter 4 – Tobias: Four is tortured by his ongoing feelings for Tris. He returns to the site later that night and finds Tris still there, but doing combat skills instead of doing what he told her to do. He teaches her how to front flip properly. Afterwards, Four goes with Tris who visits Mack in the infirmary. Four changes his mind and states that him and Tris are friends.
Chapter 5 - Beatrice: A week of training passes by. Tris gets a tattoo of the faction emblems on her right shoulder blade. Four also offers Tris to come out with his friends and she accepts. Tris has a comforting conversation with Alex about defining friends. Later that night she is waken by Peter and Four because of Factionless rioting within the city. Four and Tris have a heart to heart that night and she tells him secrets about her family and how she wants to learn how to dance. He confronts her about her feelings for him and tries to kiss her but she refrains and asks him not to. Uriah I interrupts and the two race through the city as a challenge. She wins.
Chapter 6 – Tobias: Four and Christina wake Tris up and Four spends the night with her. The two eat food and share a few conversations. At the get together Uriah makes a move and Four comforts a distressed Tris. Tris then shares her fear landscape with him. One of her fears has changed, fire has been swapped for affection and not being able to control it.
Chapter 7 – Beatrice: Uriah and Tris confront each other about the move he made. Uriah admits that he did it to make Marlene jealous and that it worked. Four asks Tris if she wants to do something but she turns him down. Tris disappears off the radar for a week and when Four finds her he confronts her again, but to no avail. Eric challenges Tris and she accepts. Later that night Four and Tris confess their feelings to each other and the two kiss. Tris also finds out that Four's real name is Tobias.
Chapter 8 – Tobias: Tris races Eric and she wins. The next morning Christina wakes Tris up at Four's apartment. Alex had tried to cut her throat in the night, but he had intended to get Tris. Feeling guilty for his mistake he tries to throw himself into the chasm, but Tris saves him. Alex confesses that Chris threatened him to do it and Eric steps in and threatens to make Chris Factionless. Tris breaks down because the incident reminds her of Al killing himself.
Chapter 9 – Beatrice: A few days pass and Max eliminates Chris as Factionless. Alex has trouble with his simulation test. Tris asks Max for her old job back and he offers her a City Security or Dauntless Leader. She accepts City Security, but Eric threatens her to take the Dauntless Leader position. Tris finds out Eric's previous challenge was a test of her abilities. Tris and Four discuss their faction tattoos and being a couple, but the two argue because Tris wants to be a Dauntless Leader and Four believes she'll be in danger. Later that day Tris finds out from Uriah that Alex was beaten by his father and that his mother died three weeks before he took his initiation test. Alex found her at the bottom of the stairs and his father went missing on the same day.
Chapter 10 – Tobias: Four and Tris make up. Alex makes it into dauntless and takes a City Security position alongside Tris. Tris notices that a lot of faction members are dying and positions are opening up on City Security. Tris accepts Dauntless Leader, but Four finds out through a scornful Eric. Four and Zeke take the last two open City Security positions. Four and Zeke worry about Tris' odd change in behavior. She's overeating and later that night gets drunk for the first time. Four looks after Tris as she drunkenly roams the courtyard. She confesses that she feels safe with four.
Chapter 11 – Beatrice: Tris and Four spend the day getting to know each other. Christina accuses Tris of being in a secret relationship with Uriah. Uriah confronts Tris about her behavior, but she denies everything. Uriah tells Tris that him and Zeke know about her and Four and that she needs to tell Christina before she finds out from someone else. Eric becomes freakishly friendly to Tris. The two witness Eric being sketchy in the midst of night and the two wonder what's going on with Eric's threats and faction members dying. Zeke, Uriah and Tris go swimming at the pool.
