Gasp! A chapter that isn't in Nana's POV? What is going on?!
Warning for this chapter: I tried to write Gokudera. I think I failed. Read at your own risk!
Just say hello, Gokudera!
Hayato Gokudera (or Gokudera Hayato, now that he lived in Japan) didn't have a lot of personal experience when it came to mothers. He didn't know anything about his own, other than the fact that she died when he was three years old, and that she hadn't been married to his father. Bianchi's mother, his step-mom, had never really been someone he had turned to; she hadn't approved of him and he Hayato had never trusted her.
He had gotten quite good at reading people over the years, however, and Hayato knew, objectively, that a mother was supposed to love her child. There had been a lot of times where he had come across a family in which the kid had spoiled rotten with love and toys, but there had been even more of instances that the child had been pushed aside, sometimes even abused.
This, Hayato had come to assume, was because he is a member of the mafia.
During his first day in Namimori, the day before he joined Juudaime's class, Hayato had investigated Juudaime and his family. He had already known that the world's Greatest Hitman would train the heir to the Vongola, so the baby hadn't come as a surprise. What Hayato hadn't been prepared for was Juudaime's mother.
He hadn't really been hiding; Reborn knew that he had arrived for certain, and he didn't really have to anything else than glare and smoke to make most people avoid him. Juudaime's mother had come out through the door, shouting something about going grocery shopping, and Hayato had managed to arrange his face into his standard delinquent (just in case) look just as she had turned around. Their eyes connected, just for a second, before she started down the street, but it had been enough to leave Hayato feeling breathless, as though he'd been sprinting for several hours.
The woman was short and unassuming, unthreatening, but Hayato got the feeling that he had just dodged a bullet.
When Hayato came to Juudaime's house two days later, in order to accompany Juudaime to school, he had been nervous. The nervousness was in part because of his slight fear of being rejected by Juudaime (it wasn't as though Juudaime really needed him…), but it was mostly because of his encounter with Juudaime's mother.
He would later kick himself (why would he be frightened by such a kind woman?) for it, but Hayato had to take several deep breaths in order to calm himself (stop shaking, damn it!) before he knocked. The door hadn't opened straight away, and Hayato had had enough time to work himself up into a frenzy of worried thoughts by time it did open and -
He came chest-to-face (she was short) with Juudamie's mother.
"I-I… er, I'm." Hayato cursed himself, why was he stuttering?! It was a simple introdutction!
"Gokudera Hayato-kun, right? Tsu-kun couldn't stop talking about you yesterday," Juudaime's mother smiled, and Hayato realized that Juudaime's smile came from his mother. He looked a lot like her, in fact; both were short, had brown hair and large brown eyes, and they had almost the exact same smile (Juudaime's was a bit more hesitant, though. Shy).
This closer inspection of Juudaime's mother had taken all of five seconds, and Hayato hadn't said anything. He'd been staring. "Yes! I'm Haya- Gokudera Hayato! Nice to meet you… er," He didn't know her name, he didn't know the name of Juudaime's mother!
"Sawada Nana, call me Mama."
What?
Did she just…?
She did.
A denial had been at the tip of his tongue (this was Juudaime's mother! He had no right to be familiar with her!), but the smile she directed at him was (cute?!) warm and happy (and if Hayato could detect gratitude in her expression as well? He never spoke of it).
He caved, "Mama?"
Juudaime's mother- Mama, gave him a satisfied smile, and it could have outshined thousands of suns.
Hayato flushed.
Kinda short? Yes, but I'm writing this at school (and I really should be doing other stuff right now!), so you'll have to take it or leave it! ^^
What do you think? I actually like this chapter, even though it feels a little off. It's far less depressing than the last one, isn't it? Did I catch Gokudera's character (at least a little?) or did I screw up completely? Oh! And what do you think about Gokudera's mini-crush (it probably won't be mentioned again, and I don't think it will last) on Nana? I smiled as I wrote it, SO CUTE! ;P
Sugar… OUT!
