Chapter 19 – Quitting
Lola was sitting on the couch staring at her phone. Since that day Robert had appeared at her house, he has been calling her every day almost twenty four hours a day. How did he get her number?
Lola looked at the stairs, her mind taking her to Rin's room. How was the girl doing? She wasn't the type of person that opens up herself and tells people her emotions easily. It seemed that even when she asked Len to talk with the girl to see if she was fine, she didn't said anything.
While Lola waited for Robert to call again – after the first time he did and she answered, she had saved his number in her contact list so she could ignore it every time he called –, Rin was in her room fixing her yellow mask that had been broken in a fight many moons ago.
The blonde stared at the broken porcelain; it had been some time since she had been on a fight, what did her "fans" think of it? She had disappeared from the streets for almost whole four months; probably they think she had retired.
After gluing the pieces of the mask together again – she thought it was better the cracked mask than buying a new one, it gave her an air of experience –, Rin took her handphone and called Rei.
"Rin?" the boy asked when he answered the call.
"Yes, it's me. Rei, I think it's time for Yellow reaper to come back to action", Rin said seriously.
"Are you serious? The guys will get really excited with this news. I'll try to get a fight for you. When are you free?"
"Right now."
"Are you sure? You haven't participated of a fight for four months; don't you think you're kind of rusty?"
"No, I am great. Call me when you get this fight," said Rin and hung up.
Leaving her mask to dry, the girl decided to take a shower, because she had glue and paint all over her body. When she turned the shower on and let the warm water run down her body, Rin couldn't stop thinking about the anger she was keeping locked inside of her chest since that they when she saw her father again. She needed a way to relieve that.
Rin let the bathroom already dressed and her phone conveniently started to ring. She took it and noticed it was Rei. Great.
"Did you get it?"
"Yes, when I said that you was coming back, soon appeared a dozen of challengers, crazy to participate of the return of the great Yellow reaper to the rings.
"Hm... Good, the time?"
"Midnight of today."
"I'll be there." Rin hung up the phone and continued to get dressed to go out.
After get totally ready, Rin looked at the clock in her phone and saw it was the time for Lola to call her to dinner. As if the woman had read her thoughts, Rin heard her mother calling her and Len to go down. Len, what did he think about this whole situation?
Rin went downstairs and sat at the table, some seconds later, Len came. His face wasn't bruised anymore and you almost couldn't seem that he had been hurt. If that man had left a scar on the boy's face, Rin didn't want even to think what she would have done with him.
Everyone ate in silence. Lola kept staring at her handphone, without noticing Rin's clothes. Len looked at the girl with interest, he knew she was up to no good and would try to leave when her mother wasn't looking, but he decided to stay quiet.
After dinner, Rin sat at the couch beside Len and the two of them kept watching TV in silence. Minutes later, Lola said she was going to her room. When they heard the sound of the door closing, Len decided to break the silence. "Where do you think you're going?"
"I don't think, I Will. I have a fight midnight."
"A fight?" the boy seemed to think for a minute, "I'll go with you." Rin wanted to smile, ironically, the last time they went out together, she also ended up getting into a fight.
"No."
"There's no way for you to stop me..."
While Len went to his room to change his clothes, Rin stayed think of a way to prevent the boy from leaving home. She didn't want him to see the ugly side of her. A great idea came up to her mind.
Slowly, Rin made her way to the boy's room and opened the door without knocking before. Len was putting on his shirt and Rin looked down to not have a nosebleed. Len realized the girl had entered and quickly put on the rest of the shirt.
"Rin, don't enter without knocking like this!"
"Len..."
"Hm?" since Rin had her eyes on the floor, she didn't noticed how red the boy was.
"I just came to say that… I'm sorry!"
"Why?"
Quickly, Rin took the key of keyhole the door, ran outside and locked Len inside the room, putting the key in her pocket.
"Rin! Open this door now!"
"i'm sorry Len, but I can't... I beg you to not scream, because then you will alert my mother and that will get me in trouble later. I'll free you when I come back. Bye bye!"
Rin ran out of her house, knowing that Len wouldn't be quiet, but she didn't look back. She needed a distraction and wouldn't let anyone, not even Len, take that from her.
Lola was sleeping when loud noises woke her up. The woman looked around, startled, thinking that Robert had broken into her room during the night. Realizing that the room was empty, the woman sighed and looked at the clock, it was eleven thirty at the night. The sounds haven't stopped.
"Lola! Are you awake?" the woman heard Len call. She left her room and went to the direction the voice had come.
"Len?"
"Thank goodness! Rin locked me here from outside, there's a way for you to open it?"
"She didn't let the key here… I'll get the master key, I'll come back in a minute."
"Okay. Thank you."
Lola went downstairs wondering what had happened there. She woke up in the middle of the night because Rin had locked Len in his room. Wait, where was Rin? Lola took the master key and opened the door for Len. The boy thanked and went downstairs, as if looking for Rin.
"She is not here. Do you know where she is?"
"No…"

Rin smiled triumphantly at the girl, Tei was her name, fallen into the ground, unconscious. The fight had served to prove to everyone that Yellow reaper still was the queen of street fights. While she fought with Tei, Rin's mind was at another place. She was remembering her life with her father, the anger she felt for him and especially at herself for being at fault for everything that happened with her mother. She had relieved this anger with Tei.
"Great fight there, girl." Rin looked around and got surprised with who she saw.
"Meiko? What are you doing here? Don't tell someone already called the Police!"
"Nah, relax. I'm not the chief officer anymore."
"What? Why?"
"I've been fired. They discovered I've been helping some troublemakers around." Rin froze when she heard that.
"Oh my God! Meiko, I... I'm sorry... I... It's my fault, I didn't want this to happen… I am very sorry!"
"Don't worry. You're not the only one I was helping out and if someone is to blame, it's me. I should have fulfilled my duty and not try to help outlaws like you guys." Meiko winked.
Even hearing those words coming from Meiko's mouth, Rin couldn't help but feel guilt. She had indirectly – or directly, perhaps – made her friend lose her job like that. Rin stayed frozen at her place, her mind being flooded by everything her behavior had caused. She had involved Len on a fight, she couldn't even be a normal friend to Miki, because her mother hated her and she had been expelled from a school for get into a fight. As if she had an epiphany, Rin decided it was time to change. Maybe it was really the time to retire her identity as Yellow reaper.

Rin was standing in front of that place she had visited the first time a few months ago, staring at the people who entered there to begin another day of lessons. Soon she would be one of them, she thought. She took a deep breath and entered, preparing herself for the decision that would for sure change her life. Entering that dojo would mean stop being a street fighter.
When she entered, the girl asked the secretary with who she needed to talk to become a pupil and she was oriented to talk with the owner himself. When she found his office, she discovered that the owner was that purple haired man she saw the first time she came here.
"Good morning, how can I help you?" he politely asked the girl.
"Hi, I want to become a pupil of this dojo."
"What kind of martial art you're interested in? I teach kendo and aikido, we also teach karate, judo and many others…"
"I don't know what kind of fight is the best for me…"
"Oh, no? Sit here, let's talk for a moment." the girl sat, "so, first, why don't you tell me the reason for you to want to become a martial artist."

Len was sitting in his desk staring at Rin while Luka was giving class excitedly. His teacher seemed extremely lively that morning, but the boy was paying no mind to it. His concern was directed at Rin, she had escaped from home, she hasn't come to school the day before and seemed to be hiding something.
When the class had finally ended, Len stood up and went after Rin; he would made her tell him what she was hiding. The boy, however, was stopped by Luka before he could reach the girl.
"Can I talk to you for a minute, Len?" the woman asked.
"Hm…" Len looked to where Rin had gone and looked at Luka again, "Okay."
"You won't guess who my boyfriend Gakupo's new pupil is!"
"Hm? Who?"
"It's Rin! She went to the dojo yesterday during school and decided to become his student! She will start to train aikido tomorrow! Isn't this a good sign? Maybe she Will leave the streets now! I'm so happy Len, to be able to see a student so... different like Rin trying to change!"
So that's what Rin was hiding. What could be the reason for this sudden will to be a part of the dojo? He didn't know, but he was somewhat happy. Maybe Luka was right and now Rin would abandon the street fights.
"Thank you for telling me, Luka! I'm going to give the new to Lola right now!" Len prepared to leave the classroom but stopped, "wait, how will Rin pay for that?"
"Gakupo told me that she really need help to control all the negative feelings she is keeping inside her heart, so he won't charge for the lessons!"
"Hm… Thank you again, Luka."

Rin was sitting at the backyard of Rei's house, together with her were Rei himself and his girlfriend Rui, they were sitting around the bonfire, waiting her other friends to arrive. Rin had called her friends asking for a meeting to talk about her identity as Yellow reaper.
After some minutes of waiting, everyone was gathered there. Gumi and her boyfriend Yuuma, Miki, Teto, Rei, Rui and Rin. Everyone looked at the blond girl expectantly, waiting to know the great news she had to tell them.
"So, guys, I called you here to tell that... Yellow reaper is going to retire…"
"What?"
"What do you mean?"
"Retire?"
It was the choir of questions that Rin could hear.
"I've decided to stop. I won't participate of street fights anymore."
The place was quiet. Rin looked at the face of all of her friends there, who seemed to be absorbing the unexpected information. The street fights were what brought these friends together and now one of them were leaving everything behind.
"I just hope you guys don't hate me for this," Rin said after some minutes of silence, " I don't hate the street fights, in truth, I love them, but I've decided it's time to put an end to this. It seems that it's the time to play the responsible daughter."
"Hate you? Why would we hate you?"
"I know that you guys love Yellow reaper."
"Yes, we love her. But we love our Rin more," Rei said smiling.
"No matter what you choose, we will always support you. Even if it's a boring and cheesy choice like that, we'll support you, Rin," said Gumi, winking.
Rin looked at Miki, who gave her the thumbs up and Teto was complaining that now everything would be boring, while she ate Bread. Yuuma, well, he would support anything that his girlfriend said. Rin smiled with tears in her eyes, how she loved them.
"Thank you, guys!"

A month passed by since Rin had asked Gakupo to be her instructor. She was missing the street fights, for sure, but being a part of the dojo also wasn't a bad thing.
Gakupo had taught her the art of meditation, because he believed this art would help her to control all the anger she felt for her father that she had locked inside herself. She felt that this meditation really was having effect, because she had even surprised her mother ( and herself) when she asked for forgiveness for every bad thing she had done to her mother during her life.
This month, she had noticed that Len seemed really happy for her quitting the fights and she understood him. He didn't need to worry about having to get her in the police station anymore.
One month was a short time, but she felt that the dojo was really making a great difference in her life. Gakupo was always saying that she had a great talent for aikido and she could become a master when she gets older and more experienced.
Rin looked to the clock at the wall and decided it was time to go home. Even after a month, her mother still didn't have total trust on her and would always be worried if she got late at home.
The girl said her goodbyes to everyone she knew at the dojo and told Gakupo, who was talking with Luka, that she was going home. The dojo wasn't that far from her house, so she could go by feet.
Casually, Rin was humming a song while she walked through the crowded streets of the city. When she got close to her neighborhood, she remembered a shortcut to get home and decided to take it, entering in an alleyway.
"Rin," a voice calling her name made her stop walking and turn around. She didn't like what she saw.
"What do you want now, Robert?"
X-X-X
Hey, Robert came back pretty fast, huh? Lol
As I said before, Rin has anger issues. That's why Gakupo told her to meditate.
I chose aikido for Rin because from what I researched, aikido is a martial art that consists of using the enemy attacks against themselves, it's not based on attacking like crazy ( as Rin used to do). I thought it would be cool for Rin to change a bit.
Poor Meiko :C
Troublemaker is getting close to its end :)
