"Joe!?" I screamed. Joe stood there grinning like an idiot in his baseball style Starship tee and hat. I ran and leaped in him hugging him tightly.
"I can't believe it's you!" I said into his shirt. He had been gone for a little over 3 months. "I've missed you so much." I practically sobbed into his shirt. I had my legs wrapped around him from leaping at him and he carried me easily.
"Duh." He smiled before pulling me into a kiss.
At first it was soft and sweet then we both became hungry for each other. We haven't had human contact in three months. I didn't really care if it was in the middle of a parking lot. After we broke I refused to let go of him. I felt like if I did I would've been all a figment of my imagination.
"What are you doing here?!" I asked.
"Same old same old what about you?" I hit him light on the shoulder.
"You know what I mean!"
Joe chuckled.
"Well I wasn't going to stay in Chicago forever! There are better acting opportunities here so I come every couple of months or so. This is the first time I have a real reason to come back." He smiled.
"Shut up." I giggled. "Let's go get some ice cream."
"Don't have to tell me twice!" He agreed and we left hand in hand.
When we got to the ice cream shop I ordered a strawberry and him a chocolate. We ate it along the sidewalk which led to a small park. We walked around as Joe told me all about Chicago and I him everything that happened here that we didn't already know. Quicker than we knew the sun started to set so we headed back to my place. Evanna was over at Denny's so we had the place to ourselves. We watched a movie, Spaceballs, before I started to get really tired.
"You're tired." He smirked.
"Only a little." I yawned.
"You want me to leave so you can get some sleep?" He started to stand up. As much as I hated it I let him. I was too tired to try to stop him.
"Don't goooooo." I whined. He smiled before kissing my forehead.
"I'll be back tomorrow. Go to bed." He ordered.
I nodded and went to my bedroom. The last sound I remember hearing was the apartment door closing before I drifted off into a deep sleep.
I had a nightmare that night. It was like the one from months ago. I was surrounded by fire. I guess I never completely got over that fear. Only Colin was there. He had a wild look in his eyes. Joe was there too. Only he was strapped to a chair. He struggled but it was useless. I ran over to him trying my best to pull the ropes free. Also useless. Colin just stood there and laughed.
"It's hopeless." He chuckled.
"Let's see band boy or you try to stop me now. " Colin exclaimed an pulled me into a kiss.
Even in the dream it felt forced but that didn't stop him. I could see joe out of the corner of my eye using all his might to try to break free.
"Stop!" he cried. "Don't touch her!" He strained.
He didn't care, instead he continually stuck his tongue down my throat but I couldn't break free. As much as I tried my lips were almost glued to his. I panicked and tried to push him off but Colin just brought me back in deeper. I didn't know what to do. I continued to push him off with all my might. Joe still stuck in the chair.
"Let go of her!" He wailed.
Colin finally broke but i still couldn't run from him.
"I think you've seen enough." Colin stated before pushing Joe into the flames. I screamed while I woke.
"That was a very detailed dream." I mumbled to myself as I rubbed my eyes.
I checked the time. 4:00 am. Groaning I plopped down on my pillow and played on my phone until I fell asleep again.
For the rest of the night I had a dream about South American lemurs. I remember specifically being South American. And they bit my leg. They bit my leg eight times. I told Joe the next day about the lemurs and how they came out of the ice cream truck and I hit dozens of them with my car before I woke up sweating. He just laughed. And laughed some more. When I thought he was done he laughed again.
"You have a crazy mind." He gasped as he wrapped up the laughing fit.
"It's not my fault I'm apparently unconsciously afraid of lemurs!" I defended myself.
"But they're lemurs!"
"Yeah and they bit my leg! It hurt! You know, as far as a dream goes."
"Okay agree to disagree about the ridiculousness of the lemur dream."
I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Fine."
"Good." He said smiling now let's watch the movie.
That day we watched How To Train Your Dragon.
"I want a Toothless!" I said out loud. "He's just so cute!"
Joe's response was that he patted my head. I stuck my tongue out playfully.
A couple days later I got a call. It was Francisco the director. I screamed. After a couple of deep breaths I answered.
"Hello?" I started. So far so good.
"Hello is this Annabella Davis?"He asked.
"Speaking." I answered.
"I regret to inform you that you will not be casted as the role of Valerie. You are a great actress but you were just not what we were looking for."
My heart sank down to my toes. I swallowed a huge lump in my throat.
"I understand. And thank you for the opportunity."
And he hung up. I took a long sad breath. It wasn't my first rejection and it won't be my last. I knew it was a hard business I was getting into. I just had to keep my head high and move on to the next audition.
"Who called?" Evanna asked as she walked into the kitchen.
"Francisco Tortellini." I answered sadly. "I didn't get the part."
"Oh honey." Evanna said sympathetically. She came over and gave me a hug.
"Come on I just got some new ice cream, lets go make huge sundaes!"
I grinned and followed her into the kitchen. I could never say no to a sundae.
