Okay, final Chapter, finally! Enjoy :)
"No..absolutely not!" Damon's voice rose. Hearing the noise Elena came in from the kitchen.
"What's going on?" She asked her husband, who was glaring at their daughter.
"She thinks she's leaving the house in that," Damon explained, waving his hand at the atrocity.
Fourteen year old Maddison rolled her eyes, "There isn't anything wrong with this!"
Elena exhaled, trying to disfuse the situation. She took in Maddie's outfit. A pair of skinny jeans, maybe slightly too tight, tucked in boots, and an open back spagetti strap shirt that showed the top of her recently developing cleavege line.
"Damon, it isn't that bad..." Elena encouraged and Maddie smiled.
"I've tried telling him that! Besides I'm just going to the Grill!"
"With a boy," Damon muttered.
Maddie sighed, "No, Dad, I'm going with my friend Vickie! And yes, her brother is driving us because he has a liscence."
"But your shirt is practically see through! Lisence or not, I know how guys think, Maddie. And you aren't going like that!"
"Ugh, Mom?!" Maddie turned to Elena.
"Sweetheart," Elena put her hand on Damon's shoulder, and he brought his eyes down to her, "It really isn't that bad, I promise"
Damon started to interupt, but Elena kissed his lips and leaned to his ear, whispering, "And Aaron's at a friends house tonight, so if Maddie leaves, you and I get the house to ourselves..."
Damon seemed to consider this before sighing, "Okay, fine."
Then he looked back at his daughter, "But will you at least put some kind of under shirt thing on?"
"Okay," she agreed, walking back toward the stairs, and Damon moved to fall on the couch.
"How am I suppose to handle...how many more years of this?" He asked, and Elena giggled, moving to sit next to him. He immediately wrapped an arm around her.
"It'll be alright, babe. We went through this with Aaron too."
Damon scoffed, "Yeah, but I didn't have to worry about guys checking him out."
"She'll be fine, Damon."
"No, she looks too much like you for her own good," he sighed, and Elena shook her head.
"Well I think I did alright," she smiled, and Damon smirked a little, leaning against her.
"We're getting old," he grumbled, and his wife grinned.
"Hey, I am not old, yet," she playfully scolded and he chuckled.
"Just wait," he assured her, "Seem like yesterday we were getting married, and now we're battling teenage children."
Elena began playing with his hair, wrapping her arms around his shoulders as he manuvered to stretch out beside her.
"Well all those years from now, when we're old and grey, we'll still have each other," she promised, and he kissed her hand.
"Always," he agreed.
"Do you miss being young?" She asked him after a moment, and he shrugged.
"Sometimes...but I love my life...age and all," he looked up at her, and she smiled.
"Me too, Your still the best thing that's ever happened to me, Damon."
"Likewise," He promised, flipping so he houvered over her.
"And no matter how old we are, I'll still love you like we're newlyweds." He kissed her and her arms went around him as she slid down, more under him.
He let his hand trail down her side, while the other supported his weight, so he didn't crush her.
"I love you," she whispered against his lips, and he rested his head on hers.
"I love you, too, Elena...more than my own life," He kissed her again, slowly.
The kiss was just deepening when Maddie came back down the stairs.
"Really?" she asked, amused.
Damon sat up quickly and Elena straightened herself, blushing.
"Just came to say that they're here," she told them.
Damon appraised her outfit, nodding then stood up, walking over to her and pulling her in for a hug.
"Have fun, Maddie," he kissed her forehead before pulling out a twenty and handing it to her, "And I love you."
She smiled at him, "Thanks Daddy, and I love you too."
She hugged Elena, too, then walked out the door, Damon closing it behind her.
He lingered there a moment too long, and Elena sighed.
"Sweetheart, you have the next couple of years to fret about how fast she's growing," she reminded him, slipping her arms around his waist.
He smiled, pulling her closer, "Yeah, I know, I just miss her being little."
Elena nodded, "I know, so do I, but it's just the way things are..."
"We should have another one," he told her, and she froze, moving back to look at him.
"You're joking?" She asked him, and he shook his head.
"No, we need another baby around here!"
Elena chuckled, "Baby, I don't want to be in my forties going through this, and neither do you, trust me."
He smirked at her, "Okay fine, but we can at least go practice," He wiggled his eyebrows at her and she giggled, allowing him to pick her up and carry her upstairs to thier room.
I'll be eighty-seven; you'll be eighty-nine
I'll still look at you like the stars that shine
In the sky
Damon and Elena were happy and in love. A life not a lot of people are lucky enough to find. They didn't care that things weren't perfect, that hard times were sure to come, because they knew they had each other. And that was all that mattered.
They had a seventy-three year long, beautiful, marriage, never once doubting that they'd made the right choice. And eventually, the wheels of time turned, and the day did come where living became harder, age getting the best of their bodies.
Damon passed first, his family by his side in the hospital, Elena holding his hand. He stared into her eyes until the life left his, and tears streamed down her cheeks as his blue orbs closed and the monitor flatlined.
"I love you...always," she whispered, kissing his forehead as the nurses and doctor came in to do their job.
Months passed and her own condition only grew worse. Aaron and Maddison debated on putting her in a home, but decided against it, instead, taking turns checking in on her each day. They were afraid for her, alone in such a big house...but they knew that her time was limited anyway.
Without Damon, she'd lost her will to live.
And sure enough, only four months after his funeral, Maddison walked in to find her mother curled in bed, barely breathing, holding a picture of her wedding day. She called an ambulance first, then her brother, before rushing to take her mother's hand.
Aaron arrived first, joining his sister at their mother's side.
Elena smiled at them, "It'll be alright..." she whispered, and Maddie shook her head.
"No, mom, please don't leave us too," she begged, tears on her face.
Elena shook her head, "I'll never leave you baby...I'm here..." she moved her hand to her daughter's heart, then turned to look at her son too, so like his father.
"I love you, both of you," she told them, then looked over at the picture Maddie had set back on the nightstand. Damon's young smiling face welcomed her and she smiled again, "But your Daddy is waiting on me."
The ambulance arrived and took her in, but before the night was over, she passed peacefully. Her family mourned her, but also knew that she was now where she wanted to be. In Damon's arms for the rest of forever.
oh, my, my, my...
