Ok so thanks to TheImmortalWeapon for inspiring this idea. The Struggles of World Domination will be updated sometime this week, so look for that.
Reviewers:
IronFistRocks: I don't even know, Far just doesn't pay attention to things! I realized that he doesn't even know what's up with this disease! So I fixed it in this chapter!
wordjumble29: I know right! Thanks for reviewing and I'm glad you love the story!
Danny's pov
As I walked around the endless camp, my head spun with Far's words. Was I really that blind? Did Ava really like me? Was Mira that jealous as to hate her? I groaned.
"King Daniel, what are you doing outside the dormitory?" Suddenly Davos was in front of me, leaning close enough for me to see my reflection in his good eye. I took a few startled steps backward.
"Uh, I needed to speak with you actually," I admitted.
He smiled. After all these years, I still did not trust him very much.
"Of course, come with me," He scurried over to a broken section of a cement wall. It looked like they had been in the middle of building a new cell. We sat down on it.
"Go ahead Your Highness. What is it that you wanted to speak about?"
"Well, I was wondering if you remembered me. I wanted to make sure there were no hostile feelings still," I didn't meet his gaze, staring at my feet. He didn't miss a beat, seemingly not surprised by my questioning.
"Daniel, Daniel, Daniel. Of course I remember you. You were the one that stole my father's blessings and my rightful title. How could I forget you? But, I also remember that you were kind to me and that we are older now. That was all in the past. I have been reaccepted into Kun'Lun, and now I am leader of this mission. No hard feelings at all," His words were slimy and rotten.
I stared into his eye, trying to detect a lie. A glint of madness shimmered in his sick gaze, forming dancing black shapes that dissolved if you looked too closely. But I had no way to tell how long he'd been here. A little craziness was probably normal. And apart from that, I couldn't find anything else in his unblinking eye.
"Ok. But I still wish to apologize. Davos, I am sorry for everything you have gone through," And with that I walked quickly away from him, making my way back to the dorm. I looked back and he was gone.
"So, where were you?" Mira was already back. I smiled at her.
"I had to speak with Davos," I said casually. She and Far shrugged. Far stretched dramatically.
"Well either way, I'm taking a nap."
"You took one on the plane!" Mira reminded him.
"So? That was like an hour and half ago!"
"I believe Far is right," I said, not being able to stop myself from adding," For once."
"Hey!"
"We should all get some real rest," I finished. Far grumbled something under his breath, then sprawled out on his cot. Mira chuckled, lying down on her own cot. I tossed and turned for a while, trying to get comfortable on the lumpy mattress. Finally I decided to simply meditate.
Breathe. Don't think. Davos is most likely sincere. It's been so many years. He can't still be angry. Breathe. He is helping us. Just breathe.
"Wake up young heroes, it is time for your tour," Davos' voice filled the room suddenly. I didn't know how long it had been, I might've even fallen asleep during meditation, but it was finally time. I opened my eyes and stood up.
Mira was getting up and Far...well Far was still snoring. Mira casually walked over and placed a finger on his shoulder. A small zap of purple lightening shot from it and Far bolted awake.
"OW! Ow ow ow ow ow!" He yelled, massaging his shoulder. Mira grinned innocently and slipped her arm into mine.
"We're ready," She told Davos. Far glared.
"Come," He walked out of the dorm in long strides, double our usual pace. To his credit, Far didn't complain. Instead, he focused on stepping on Mira's heels every other step.
"Stop it!" She whisper-yelled. He stuck out his tongue like a child.
"It's amazing you two aren't brother and sister," I said. Mira rolled her eyes and Far laughed.
"We are here," Davos carefully took out a key from an unseen pocket and opened the heavy metal door that led into one of the cells. We walked in and Far's eye twitched.
"It's a hospital," He said flatly.
Davos looked as surprised as we were.
"Indeed it seems so. You have to remember that I have never been inside one of these either."
The sharp alcoholic disinfectant smell made my head hurt and the walls were completely white. White chairs were against the wall, facing another door. We looked at Davos, who quickly stepped forward to unlock the other door. He gasped.
We quickly gathered behind him. Behind this other door was a small observation room with glass walls, minus the stone wall where the door was. And behind the glass were masses upon masses of diseased Kun'Lunians.
Small children and mothers with their babies. Fathers holding hands with dying wives and grandparents crying together. Some were already dead, and looked to have been for quite a while.
A few were still healthy looking on the outside, but their wild screams and sick rants gave away their broken minds. The rest of the living souls were in the metal-faced stage, as I had come to call it. Mira covered her mouth and Far was frozen, unblinking.
"The people from New York?" He choked. I tore my eyes away from the morbid scene to look at him. I realized that Far hadn't known about the sickness while we were in Kun'Lun the first time. Mira and I had kept it secret. All he had known was that Mira's father died with a metal face.
"Davos, that's enough. Let's go," I said. But when I turned around he wasn't there. The door to the cell was closing. I ran for it.
"Davos! DAVOS!" I shouted. The door slammed shut and the lock clicked.
"LET US OUT! DAVOS! CAN YOU HEAR ME!" I raged, pounding on the thick door. I heard his reedy voice on the other side.
"Sorry Your Highness. But I think you are better off in there. Maybe you'll catch something. I hope there's no hard feelings, consider us even," His voice was dark and neutral. I pictured his eye, glowing with insanity.
"DAVOS! Unlock this door! By order of Kun'Lun unlock this door!" I screamed until my voice was hoarse. No reply came. I felt Mira's hand on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have trusted him. I failed you guys," I whispered. She pulled me off the floor, I hadn't realized I'd fallen, and led me to one of the chairs.
"It's ok. We'll find a way to get out of here," She soothed. Far joined us.
"Those people. They're sick. Why are they sick?" He asked us. His voice was trembling, I had never seen anything other than cocky bravado on his face and it scared me to see him afraid. I could tell he was remembering his mother. I opened my arms, inviting him for a hug. He shook his head, ignoring the chairs and sitting on the floor.
"We're going to save them right?" He asked finally. I couldn't look at him. I hated Davos for doing this to him. He would pay.
"I don't know dude, I don't know."
The plot thickens! I literally had this whole thing written out yesterday because I was so convinced that it was Sunday, until I realized what day it was just as I was about to post the chapter. So yeah, please leave a review and thanks for reading! Anyway...
Wolf out...
