Donkey swam to the surface of the lake along with the Swordfish, whose bill poked out of the water. The swordfish blinked a couple times, seeming quite curious. Donkey looked down at the Swordfish. "Listen, Enguarde, I need your help to get across. I'm supposed to meet my Little Buddy on the other side of the lake. So will you help me?"
Happy to help the ape, Enguarde nodded and allowed Donkey to ride on his back. He swam past many schools of fish. Not to mention the clams, here and there. With how peaceful and easygoing the lake seemed to be, Donkey would make it, in no time.
There was a few piranhas, coming into view. They began to circle Donkey. The gorilla couldn't really attack, underwater. Not very well, anyway. That's where Enguarde's bill came in handy. The Swordfish propelled itself and attacked one of the piranhas with his long bill. The other carnivorous fish barred their teeth and swam after the blue marlin.
Engurarde was racing through the water, he lept into the air, like a dolphin. While in the air, Donkey was able to catch his breath before Enguarde went down with a strong force, he hit one of the piranhas like a projectile, knocking it out. Terrified, the fish swam away. Afterwards, Enguarde swam a little more leisurely.
Once he was close to land, he allowed Donkey to get out from the water. The ape swam until he came into contact with the land. Noticing that it had stopped raining, he shook his fur like a wet dog. OK, that's enough swimming, for one day.
He waved good-bye to Enguarde and headed into the village, finding his way to Candy's hut. In honesty, Donkey had a huge crush on Candy. He would often try to ask her out on a date, only to mess it up somehow. When that happened, Diddy would always tease him about it, saying that Candy "is just a girl" and wouldn't be as fun to be around. Maybe if Diddy had a crush on someone, himself, he'd actually understand how complicated it was.
Donkey was standing in front of the hut, he knocked on the door. An ape with shoulder-length blonde hair and a pink leotard opened the door, she had her hands on her hips. "Well, now. I wasn't expecting you, here."
"I know," Donkey said, "I-I was just wondering if you knew about what happened."
Candy frowned, "Are you talking about what the Kremlings were doing, last night?"
"All right, so you do know," Donkey said in relief.
Candy nodded, "Last night, they grabbed as many bananas as they could and headed over to Monkey Mines. And since you're King of the island, I was wondering if you were going to do anything about it."
"Of course, do you really think we'd let those crocs get away with this?"
Candy tilted her head, "What do you mean 'we'?"
"Sorry I'm late," Diddy said as if on cue. He came over to the hut. He was walking up to Candy, "I just bumped into some Kremlings in the caves."
"What were you doing in the caves?" Candy asked, sternly. She looked at Donkey, who smiled, sheepishly. The big ape knew he was in trouble, but he shrugged it off and looked at Diddy. "A-anyway, what did you hear?"
"I heard that K. Rool's meeting the other Kremlings on the other side of the island. I dunno what K. Rool's up to, but there has to be more to it then that!" Diddy said in a calm tone.
"Well, whatever the case, I'm sure you'll be fine," Candy said, though she began to look concerned, "But are you sure you want to go through with this? It's dangerous, you know."
"Hey, I'm the king, remember?" Donkey said, proudly, "I'm not letting anything happen to you guys!"
"Well, if that's the case, then I won't stop you," Candy said, feeling slightly confident about her "boyfriend". The she-gorilla pulled some of her hair back behind her ear, "Now, before you go, do you guys need anything?"
"We'll be fine," Donkey said, confidently. Diddy was scratching the back of his head, "Can I have my backpack? I think I left it here, yesterday."
"Al right, I'll be right back," Candy said as she went inside her hut. Donkey looked down at Diddy, "You know we're not gonna need it, right?"
Diddy shrugged, "You never know what'll come up."
"You don't even use your backpack...except for maybe homework and stuff."
"Well? Maybe now's a good time to use it for things other than Kong Kollege."
Candy came back outside of her hut, handing Diddy his backpack. The little monkey placed it onto his back, it was a faint green color, like the color of moss.
"Now, I've given you guys a couple blankets, some medicine, and some food, just in case you'll need it." Candy looked over at Donkey, "Are you sure you don't need anything?"
"I said I'd be fine," Donkey said, stubbornly, "Thanks, anyway."
The big ape began to leave, waving good-bye to Candy. Diddy looked back at Candy before heading off with his uncle, "See ya, Candy!"
Candy released a deep sigh, I don't know what it is with these two...they always seem so careless.
...Though Candy really did care about the Kongs, all she could hope is that they make it back to the village, alive.
There was another cave that was passed Candy's hut, This cave was dark and dingy, the only light given to the cave was from the lanterns, which were possibly used by moles.
Within a wide segment of the cave, a small group of Gnawties, jumping for joy as they tried scarfing down a few bananas. These Gnawties weren't too bright, however, as they continued to bump into each other and slip on the banana peals...
Donkey and Diddy had entered the Gnawties' area of cave. There was no mistaking it, the Kremlings have already entered monkey mines. As much as they hated to see bananas being wasted, it looked kind of hilarious to see Gnawties trying to eat them.
"I got this!" Diddy said as he tried to chase away the Gnawties, like a cat chasing down a group of mice. Donkey was trying to remember something, he and his father had been here, before...he remembered all the little Gnawties in this area. Not only that, but Donkey would do the same thing Diddy was doing now, try to scare the Gnawties away. However, there was something he tried to remember, something that wasn't as pleasent to think about.
The floor was beginning to shake, the Gnawties' fur stood on end as they fled into different directions. Diddy stood up on two legs, wondering what was going on. "Did I cause an earthquake or somethin'?"
"Look out, Diddy!" Donkey yelled, grabbing Diddy and running against a wall before a dangerous foe appeared. A large Gnawty leapt in front of them, he was simply known as Very Gnawty. This Gnawty was twice the size of Donkey Kong, and from what Donkey remembered, was one of the most aggresive gnawties on the island.
Very Gnawty roared as he lept after the Kongs, Donkey and Diddy ran to opposite sides as the huge beaver landed. "What is that thing!?" Diddy asked in a horrified tone. The Gnawty jumped, again, aiming for Diddy. The monkey ran to another wall to avoid being crushed, he was cowering in fear, just as any weakling would do.
He saw Donkey, climbing on the rocky ledges. The big ape waved to Diddy.
"I need ya to distract him so I can take him down." Donkey yelled
"How do I do that!?" Diddy asked, horrified.
"Just pretend you're playing Tag and the Gnawty is it!" Donkey yelled. "Can you do that!?"
"I-I'll try!" Diddy yelled back, he began to run as fast as he could through the cave, the Gnawty was gaining speed, he was getting closer and closer, until he managed to get one of his feet on Diddy's tail, the monkey could hardly even scream.
The big ape was running along the ledges, he jumped on the Gnawty's head and pounded it to the ground, It fell face-first into the dirt, releasing Diddy in the process.
Diddy lifted himself from the ground, he looked at the tired Gnawty, sticking his tongue out. The Kongs could hear growling as the Gnawty got back up. Donkey was hanging on to it by the ears like how a bull rider would hang on to a bull. The Kong leapt off Very Gnawty and in front of Diddy. "It doesn't look like this Gnawty'll go down, easy."
"I have a plan!" Diddy said. The older Kong looked down at him. Diddy crossed his arms, "I think I can take the Gnawty down. All ya gotta do is grab my tail."
"How'll that stop it?" Donkey asked, baffled. Diddy pulled on his arm, "If you grab my tail, then you can throw me in the air. Afterwards, I'll kick the Gnawty in the face."
"Are you sure that'll work?"
"Yes it will, trust me."
The ape did as he was told, he grabbed Diddy by his tail and began to spin in a circle. Very Gnawty roared, again, making his way over to the Kongs. Donkey released his nephew, aiming for the Gnawty. Unfortunately, Diddy was about a foot or so from the massive beaver's head, he landed face-first into the dirt.
"Sorry, Buddy. I'm not that good with aiming," Donkey said, sympathetically. The little monkey raised his head, Very Gnawty's face was in his face. His hat fell off as the monkey yelped and ran from the Gnawty, again. Donkey climbed on to one of the ledges and began to chase it. The gorilla got closer and closer to Very Gnawty until he managed to jump on to its head, again, pounding it to the ground. The Gnawty landed on its face, Diddy stopped running from the massive Gnawty, feeling exhausted.
"You OK, Little Buddy?" Donkey asked, concerned. Diddy nodded, looking around. He grabbed his hat and placed it on his head, "Remind me to never go against that thing, again."
"Hey, at least we made it out, alive," Donkey assured him.
"True," Diddy said, nodding. He looked over at the Bananas, half of them were eaten while others were simply mushy. "Do you really think we should take the bananas back to the Banana Hoard?"
"I don't think so," Donkey said, "It's probably easier if we get rid of the Kremlings, first. Besides, they have the rest of the bananas."
"If you say so," Diddy said, innocently. The two Kongs decided to move forward, heading into Monkey Mines.
Meanwhile, a large pirate ship was coming into view, it was in great condition, the crew consisted of Kremlings, roaming around the deck of the ship to make sure that things were running smoothly.
A large Kremling came out of the captain's cabin and on to the deck. He wore a golden crown and a long red cape. His left eye seemed to be infected. The Kremlings started paying attention to the larger Kremling. One of the Kremlings came up to him and saluted. Screech was sitting on his head. "King K . Rool , sir. Your trusty parrot, Screech would like a word with you."
"Really, now?" K. Rool asked in suspicion. The Kremling nodded. "Well, Screech? Explain what's going on on the island."
"Well, collecting the bananas was easier then I thought it would be," Screech said in a happy tone
"How so?" K. Rool asked. Screech flapped his wings in delight. "Well, rather then guarding the bananas, himself, he let his nephew guard them. And lemme tell you, the kid's nothin' but a pushover!"
"In that case, we shouldn't have a problem taking over Kongo Bongo," K. Rool said, happily.
"I wouldn't be sssso ssssure," Said a new voice. K. Rool looked over at the crow's nest, where a snake was standing.
"Oh? And what makes you think we'll fail, this time?" K. Rool asked, placing his hands on his hips.
"Jussssst call it a hunch, ssssire, but remember when you tried to sssssteal the Crystal Coconut?"
"Those Kongs cheated and you know it!" K. Rool argued. The snake shook his head in dispair. "OK, what about the time where you tried to awaken Tiki Tong?"
K. Rool shrugged. "Well? I'm sure that overgrown Tiki god would've waken up by now."
"And who'sss to sssay he wouldn't attack you if you wake him up?" the snake said. "Besssidesss, he only wakessss up once every one thousssand yearsss."
K. Rool grumbled. "OK, listen you overgrown belt, I won't be taking any more of your criticisms. I'll be taking over Kongo Bongo this time."
"But-"
"But nothing. Either you stop this or you and your spider friend will be thrown in the dungeon!"
"Don't bring Sssquitter into this," the snake mumbled.
"At any rate, I'm taking over the island, end of story!" K. Rool said before returning to the captain's cabin.
Screech flew down to the snake with a smug expression. "Well, looks like you've failed to reason with him, this time."
"Oh, would you jussst stop," the snake said in an annoyed tone, "One of thessse days, he'll regret not lissstening to me."
"Just keep saying that," Screech said, "You don't have the guts to go against us, even if you tried.
Feeling defeated, the snake slithered away, hiding in one of the crates.
"Hehe...that's what I thought," Screech said in a smug tone."
*sigh* Finally, I'm DONE with this chapter.
Also, there are a few changes, here and there...but other then that, I'll be moving on to the next chapter!
