Far's pov
They say every cloud has a silver lining. That there is always, always a bright side. They say there is humor in every situation, you just have to find it. I wanted to laugh.
They were wrong.
I could already feel it. Weakness settling into my gut like a poison. Foul and rotting. It crept all over my body. Any magic flowing out of me in an instant. But none of that compared to the pain. The hot crimson pouring down my arms. There were screams. Maybe mine. Maybe not. It hurt. My hand to my arm to my shoulder. Now freefalling down my side. Quick jabs of sharp pain.
I barely registered my head hitting the ground with a thunk. I felt tears slipping down my nose. Liquid fire seared my veins. I couldn't move. I couldn't stop it.
Just like always.
Powerless little Farligan.
Weak little Byrd.
Flapping in the dust. Diving into blood.
Madness is your only friend. Helping gets you nothing.
Fly little Byrd. No more breadcrumbs for you to follow. Sing little Byrd.
Your nest is dead and gone. Play little Byrd. Close your eyes. Settle in.
Good night little Byrd.
Mira's pov
"FAR!" I screamed as my friend fell. I swooped to his side.
"Please," Sobs racked my body. I tousled his white hair. His blue eyes looked through me. Tears making them shine. "Please."
Danny was hovering over him. He held out his hands, willing his healing ability to come back. Far choked on blood. It was impossible. A stab to the hand. It shouldn't have done this to him. But Danny had said it. The blade killed. No matter what. The blade killed.
He didn't speak. Something broke inside me. I wanted so badly to hear him call me witch. For him to make up some sarcastic remark. His lips moved soundlessly.
"Sweet little reunion," Master Lee said. I turned to him.
"I. Will. Kill. You," I growled. Master Lee seemed to stretch up. Growing slightly taller. His features shifted. I cried out.
"Hello friends," Scorpion grinned.
"No..." Danny muttered.
"Why?" It was Mother. I searched for her with my eyes. I had forgotten she was here. Impossibly, I felt a tick of anger at her for not rushing over to Far.
"Oh, I was here anyway...sending away these troublesome people. Preparing the city for my new citizens. You merely ran into me," Scorpion said.
"So it was you then. You quarantined those people. You did it all," Danny growled. Scorpion swayed, eyes glinting with insanity.
"Oh no. No that was the real Master Lee. He got quite desperate indeed. I only recently took up my position. With your powers, I can be anyone I want," He glanced at Far's lifeless body, "I only wish I knew sooner of the boy's magic. It could have been quite useful. Oh well. Can't have it all."
Danny pounced. He tackled Scorpion to the ground, straddling him and punching him with every inch of his being. Mother's arms were around me suddenly. I shrugged her off. Danny was screaming unintelligible phrases. Some in Chinese some in English. Most in gibberish.
Scorpion's nose splintered, then his cheek bones. I saw him reach for something. The blade! He still had the blade.
"Danny!" I shouted, running forward to wrestle the demonic thing from Scorpion's hand. The carved dragon head seemed to glow with pale blue light. Far's magic. I knew on instinct. My hands slipped from sweat. I clutched it as Danny continued beating Scorpion. He threw random punches in random directions, sometimes missing entirely.
I shuddered, focusing on my own task. Scorpion's grip faded with his consciousness. I tore it from his grasp and looked behind me. Mother sat hunched over Far.
"WORSTANDAAAAH! ISHOUDLDKILLARGH!" Danny was still screaming. Scorpion was obviously unconscious. Danny kept swinging.
"Mira!" He suddenly turned to me, wild. "Give me the blade."
"What?"
"I'm getting rid of him once and for all!"
"What about your Chi! What if we can't get it back?" I yelled. He stared.
"Scorpion killed my best friend and destroyed my home. There is nothing left."
"I'm left!"
"Mira. Please. Give me the blade."
I looked down.
"I can't Danny. Maybe if I knew we could get our powers back." A look of cold fury settled on Danny's face.
"Sorry Mira. Scorpion was right. Sometimes you need to make hard decisions for the greater good." His hand whipped out to snatch the knife from my hands. He raised it and plunged it into Scorpion's heart. I screamed. There was no hesitation.
Shao Lao's Blade began pulsing with stolen magic. Blue to purple to gold to red. Danny quickly lifted it out of Scorpion's body with a wet slurping sound. He held it in both hands, and broke the knife in half.
Light blinded me. Seared my eyes. Everything disappeared. Scared off by the scorching brilliance. Then it was gone, leaving me with a warm feeling swarming my senses. Danny was in front of me. He grinned. One of his fists was glowing.
Danny's pov
That day was one of the worst days of my life. After the ordeal with Scorpion we decided to go back to New York. Check on the others. Then we'd come back and rebuild. I figured we would have to stay for a few years before anything even approached normal. The plan was to gather the people from the camp to help, seeing as they seemed like they were the least sick. Doctor Strange had been contacted, he thought that maybe together we could find a cure for the remaining people.
Mira and I had buried Far under the hill near her old house. The place where I'd gotten to know him best. Master Lee's real body had been found. A charred and bloody mess. No one buried him. It didn't feel right.
I thought my life had ended that day. That nothing could get any worse.
We arrived in New York to a disaster. The streets were devoid of people. I never thought I'd see the day. Quarantine signs labeled every building. Broken windows and abandoned cars. We found the Tricarrier hovering over Central Park. We walked in and I almost collapsed.
My friends were sitting on the couch, just like usual. They looked up when Mira and I came in. Mira's mother was in Kun'Lun, helping with the cleanup.
"Danny!" Luke practically tackled me. "We thought you were...that you..." He let out a sob. Sam and Peter were frozen in their seats, relief washing over them.
"What happened?" Sam whispered in a small voice I had never heard come from him. A stab of pain seized my heart. He was so much like Far.
"Kun'Lun has been destroyed. I came to say goodbye. I must help rebuild my kingd-" I fell to my knees. I couldn't speak. Too many thoughts suddenly overwhelmed me. Everyone crowded around me. Mira rubbed my shoulder.
"I'm sorry," Peter said. I suddenly noticed something.
"Where's Ava?"
No one met my stare.
"She had it dude. She had that creepy disease. We haven't left the Tricarrier since then. Scared to catch it," Peter sighed. Tears moistened his eyes.
"She's..." Mira trailed off.
"Sorry," Peter said again. I slowly began to notice things I hadn't. We had walked right into the Tricarrier with assistance from Mira's magic. No alarms, nothing.
"What about Fury? And Coulson?"
"Them too," Sam shook with sorrow. He seemed to have shrunk inside himself. I took a deep breath.
"Where's Far?" Luke asked. I glared at him. He stepped back, held up his hands.
"He was stabbed," I said simply. I heard Mira start crying. I hated myself for how easily the words came.
There was a long pause before anyone said anything.
"So what do we do?" Sam asked. No one would answer him for a long time.
Wow. That was a bit intense. This is the official ending, but if you guys want an additional epilogue or something just to see how they cope over the years, just ask in the reviews. But for now, I am happy with this. I am very sad that I had to kill off my favorite character, but oh well. I am working on a new project. So that'll come eventually! And until next time...
Wolf out...
