Gobber sat calmly on a log, gently poking the burning embers in front of him. He was calmly listening to Hicca, who was telling him about yet another adventure she had while she was away from Berk. She had informed her followers about the friendly captain who resided on the nearby island and they had all reacted positively, happy for her to have found her old mentor and friend again.
Gobber himself whished he would never have to leave, he loved spending his time with Hicca, telling stories about the past few years, explaining everything that had happened while they were apart. Gobber would listen will full ears, carefully taking in every single detail of her stories. They intrigued him, he had to admit that. The life of pirates, no, privateers sure seemed relatively nice. The skies, the freedom. It all fitted with Hicca perfectly. Although he had to admit that he cringed when she told him about the numerous time she almost died. That was when he realised she hadn't told him one near death experience in detail.
"Hicca," Gobber interrupted her latest story about restocking their arms at a military weapons depot. "If I may be so bold, how exactly did you lose your leg?" He could see how the look of joy on her face changes, he had expected a look of sorrow or remorse, but what he got was a look of shame. "An accident." Hicca said slowly.
"What happened me lass?" Gobber said, using the same words he would often use when she either broke something or hurt herself in his workshop. Hicca sighed. "It was shortly after I fled Berk." She explained. "I was, confused. I felt happy, sad, hopeful and full of regret. I was scared that you all would come after me, so I made haste."
"You didn't, didn't you?" Gobber asked as he thought about what she was saying, he knew she was an adapt pilot, also at that age, but she could also be stubborn, and certainly do dumb things. "Aye," Was all Hicca said. "I stole some of dad's alcohol, the strong stuff."
"What did I tell you about tempering with mixtures, leave that to mechanics." Gobber said scolding her. "Yea, yea," Hicca said calmly, before giving herself her best Gobber expression. "Ay lassy, ya' got to be careful with what ya' pu' in the engine, it could go boom." Gobber swatted her over her head when she was done, which was only answered by a lot of giggles. A smile slowly crept onto Gobber's face, this was the girl she could never be on Berk.
"Anyway," Hicca picked her story up again. "I may have thrown a bit too much alcohol into the engine, causing a small, crash." Gobber laid his face in his hand as he muttered. "Oh my gods Hicca."
"Long story short. Fire, explosion, flaming hot piece of rotor flying through the air, and" She pointed presenting to her leg. "Peg-Leg!"
"You're taking it quite well I see." Gobber said, still shaking his head in disbelieve of her idiocy. "Well, not much I can change about it." Hicca said as she knocked on the wooden base of the leg. "And being sad about it won't change anything."
Gobber was impressed by how mature she was about the loss of her leg, he had lost his limbs on an older age then she but he had a lot of trouble dealing with it, Hicca had adapted perfectly it seemed.
"I mean, sure I feel remorse for what I did," Hicca continued, breaking his thoughts. "Hel, if I was more careful I could still have my leg." She said as she looked at her leg.
"Well, you had your adventures alright." Gobber said with a chuckle lifting the mood. "I've been stuck at the forge because my apprentice decided to ditch me." He said, sarcastically scolding the girl. "That was before her father threw me on an airship while ordering me to bring her home." Gobber grew quiet.
"I never thought about it, he never said that I needed to find you, he just said that I needed to bring you home." Gobber said in quietly. He looked at Hicca, who was smiling at him. "Well I guess a boss would want his heir to return to him." She said nonchalantly. "Whilst a father want's to see his daughter." She looked at Gobber as she said it, smiling to him.

The calm landing where the vessels lay were now not far from an ants nest, all the crew was walking around with recourses. Carrying logs, planks and other building materials. They were stored neatly and safely, dry and secure on the underneath the airship. Some of the materials were lifted, by deck mounted cranes of the destroyer and the submarine, onto lowered dinghies. Those would take them to their represented locations.
They were expanding the central island. They would make a small storage for supplies and some docks would be build. They consisted of two normal docks, one higher for the destroyer and a lower one for the submarine, which the water plane could also dock on. They also had plans for a small tower for easy loading and unloading of the airship. There were ideas for a ramp for moving the plane out of the water, because previous attempts at steering it up the beach had almost left it tipping over. Eventually they decided that it would be wisest to just wait for the ebb and flow to chance the height of the water on the beach, when it was high they would drive the plane to where it just beached on the sand. They would then wait for the water to lower again before they would pull it further up the beach.
Everybody played their part, some were building the docks, which consisted of some long logs a few meter into the ground with planks tied between them, and some of them nailed, some of them not. The others were either delivering the building supplies or unloading them, since a large amount was carried by both the submarine and the destroyer, which both used their cranes for the unloading onto the beach and the loading onto the dinghies.
Since their island connected to the one of the steep rocky sides of the cave they had decided to not build infrastructure, instead placing their building into the wall. Hicca had found a Whispering Death which didn't mind helping for a fair exchange of fish, the large dragon had dug a nice and relatively square opening which suited at a hanger and had created a larger round opening which could function as a sub-pen. All they had to do was create wooden, anchored walkways.
They had agreed on digging the quarters for themselves, since the Whispering Death wasn't the most accurate and bright dragon, besides demanding more and more fish. Weren't these things supposed to eat rocks?
They had made tremendous progress today, and they were very proud at themselves, fires were lit again as their leader emerged from the woods. She had been visiting her friend every day, and many of the men and women had started asking why he wouldn't join their camp. They knew of his presence and they didn't really mind him joining them, since the stories portrayed him as an honourable and fair man. Hicca had said that she would discuss it with him but hadn't found a moment to do so.
Hicca walked around the camp, slowly looking around at all the progress. The plane was beached as the water was retreating, so they could soon move it into the new hangar. Most of the crews were forming groups around the fires, one or two of them cooking dinner above it.
It was harmony, nobody could deny that, these men and women were seen as savages, pirates, but they were nothing but family. A family that survived and slowly started to thrive in a strange and dark world, polluted by the rise of industrial areas and the inevitability of war.
But in here it was different, sure when the engine started the large grey clouds of smoke would reach high towards the sky, but the island was clean. One of the rare places where large pieces of forest were still free to grow and where wildlife still lived. The world knew some of these places, but they were often inaccessible thanks to local dragons. The forest inside Fenrir's Teeth were the same with the dragons, but since the crew knew how to handle the beasts they were safe.
Hicca rested on the familiar stump, the one on which she had been standing a week before when they first laid anchor. She was content, her crew was scattered around the different campfires, calmly roasting food and laughing together. It was the calmest she had seen the entire group, which could be called a militia or a clan at this point, since it had grown in side substantially.
She closed her eyes, dreaming of a better world, where she wouldn't have to fear about being hunted down by her Father. She dreamed about a world where dragons and humans lives alongside each other.
She had big plans, the first one being the plan to turn Fenrir's Teeth into a habitable home. Whilst the rest of their militia did that she would seek out her ties with her family, the ones that she was about to cut loose. She grabbed her journal, opening it to the last page before removing a piece of paper. It was folded a few times and looked old, it came from the box that Sithera had taken from Hicca's room. She unfolded it and gently read it again, a smile creeping up her face.
She placed it back and stuffed her journal back into her armour. Everything was set in motion, and it was all falling in motion.
AN:
So, huehuehuehuehue, another chapter done. I really need to stop writing cliff hangers.
First of all, sorry that the chapter is a bit later than usual. I'm in my last year of school and that combined with being a lazy ass doesn't help my planning skills.
I have some great ideas for the next few chapters. But I think this story will have quite some more chapters before I'm done with it. But I'm also thinking about finishing the first part and then making a sequel to it, just so I can have a short break from this story to write some other stuff, but that will also take some time.
Please tell me what you think is good in the review or in a PM. I still accept OC's and if I find them possible to add then I'll definitely do so.
Don't forget to vote on the poll on the page, all the stories on there will probably be made eventually, but you can decide on which one comes first.
