Chapter Twenty – six: Feel the pain?! You're still human…-

Date: April 29th, 2012

Location: Celestial temple

Time: 9:00 AM

"~Meow!~"

Asami looked over her right shoulder. A cat?! No way. Nothing. No one else was in the temple with her. She slowly turned the corner of the temple, camera in hand, holding it steady just in case the situation were to turn out differently. Not a cat in sight. She sighed in relief. Maybe she was hearing things. Ok, so maybe coming back to the temple after 'that incident' had occurred [refer to chapter twenty – one], probably created a whole bubble of horrific and supernatural thoughts.

"Calm down. Breathe. It's all in your mind," Asami thought, "You know that there is no such things as ghosts. All in the mind, nothing more."

~CRACK!~

Asami froze instantly. Oh. Dear. God. The sound came directly from one of the dark passageways that led down to the tombs. She gulped. Slowly making her way towards the impending darkness. It seemed that curiosity was getting the best of her. Halfway down the stairs, she suddenly heard a sound. Someone or something was in pain.

"H-hello…- is a-anyone h-here?!"

The question hung in the air for a few seconds. But Asami felt as if she had waited a whole minute until her answer came. Just ten feet away from where she was standing, a green-cloaked figure suddenly moved against the wall of the tomb. Stranger. Unknown. She stepped back quickly. Oh. No. Her right heel came into contact with the remains of a desecrated tomb. Damn. It. She fell backwards, only to receive a painful cut along her right arm from the corner of the desecrated tomb. Red droplets of the SIREN's blood gave color to the tomb floor.

"Oh…- fuck!" Asami exclaimed, cradling her bloody right arm to her bosom.

Blood was smeared on her white tank top. The figure staggered a bit before falling on top of her. She cried out in pain and shock. Oh. Fucking. Heavy. Asami blinked away a few tears, trying to get control of her emotions. She realized that she had an unconscious male on top of her. Even quite attractive. However, she didn't have time for any further introductions. Using all the strength she had in her left arm, she tried the only option available. Travel pouch. Cell phone. Speed dial…- Yuudai Huang.

"Dr. Watanaki, your needed in surgery right away. Dr. Watanaki…-"

Ugh… what the hell happened?! Urgent voices. Smell of latex. Hand sanitizer. Oh. God. I feel… woozy. Blue walls. White curtains. Oh. Great. I think I now know where I am.

"Your finally awake. Ah…- don't get up so quickly! The doctor said that you shouldn't move about so carelessly."

"Yuudai, where is…-"

"Shush! Just rest for now," Yuudai brushed my bangs aside, before sitting back down in the chair, which was beside the hospital bed that I was resting in, "I can't believe it. You've managed to acquire sixteen stitches in total, including the fact that there was a huge amount of blood loss. Are you feeling any pain?"

"Not really. I just feel a bit loopy in the head," I replied using my left hand to pull the covers up to my chin, since my right arm wasn't in the right condition to be moving about. The thin IV tubes were attached to my right hand. The bruise was still there.

Yuudai smiled, "Good. The painkillers are working then."

Uh. Oh. That smile wasn't the usual 'I'm proud of you' or 'I'm grateful for what you've done for me.' Hell. No. It's a smile expressing, 'You've wandered off alone. When I told you not to do such a thing.' There was a knock on the door before Chi, Masumi, Masato, Nanami, and Ren had entered the room. Thank. Goodness. Just in time.

"~Asami-chan, you're finally awake!" Chi squealed, wrapping her arms around my waist gently. I smiled. At times like this, I'm glad to have Chi around.

Masato sighed, "You gave us all quite a scare."

"Since you're in good company, I'll check up on our 'ill green eyed' patient." Said Yuudai, placing a gentle kiss upon my forehead, he left the room.

Chi giggled, "Yuu-chan was quite worried when your emergency call came through."

I sighed, "Not funny," I ran my fingers through a strand of bangs, "Yuudai is probably more angry than worried. Back at the temple, curiosity got the best of me. If I didn't go down…-"

My words quickly trailed off. Shit. Now I remember! Temple. Unconscious male.

"Asami-chan, is there something wrong?" Asked Nanami.

Before I could reply, Kyoya entered taking a quick glance at my medical chart, which was on a clipboard posted at the front of my hospital bed. I should have expected this.

"I've already talked to Dr. Shota. Yuudai-kun will be able to check you out of your room around noon," Kyoya took off his glasses to clean the lenses using a black handkerchief, "However…- you can still attend scheduled events with Ms. Nanami. But Yuudai-kun has excused you from all of your academy gym classes."

I pouted, "For how long?!"

"Till the end of May," He replied before leaving the room.

Damn. Kyoya. So much for hoping to say a proper farewell… for now. Archery, badminton, swimming, and Tai Chi. Damn. It. There goes sixty percent of my fun time. I adjusted my position, being careful with the wire, which connected me to one of the monitors. Underneath all that white gauze wrapped around my right arm, the stitches were probably a gruesome sight.

"Noona, you should heal quickly," Masumi sighed, "I don't want to be partnered with Yoshio in badminton class for to long of a semester."

I chuckled, "I'll try my best."

"How are you feeling?" Asked Chi. I could tell that she was eyeing the button for the nurse.

"Fine," I lied. The fog of medication was still hanging throughout my mind. Truthfully, my right arm was starting to feel a bit sore.

"I'll see you later then," Chi said, "I still have a lot of packing to do back at the cabin."

I chuckled once more, "Try not to get distracted."

Chi smiled, patted my hand, and left quickly with Masumi, Masato, and Nanami. For a second, I thought Ren was going to push the button for the nurse; instead it was quite the opposite. Surprise. Surprise. He handed me the 'answer' to his 'riddle.'

"My sweet rose, I had hoped to present this necklace to you yesterday. But events had turned out quite differently."

I smiled, holding the pendant in the palm of my left hand, "Well…- at least there will be no punishment handed out by Yuudai."

He smiled, "Allow me."

Ren slightly bent down to place the elaborate piece of jewelry around my neck. For a moment, it was quiet except for the beeping of the monitor, dripping from the IV sack, and the ticking of the clock on the wall. My eyes slightly widened once I felt Ren's hands on either side of my face. I could feel the warmth radiating from his hands. Those blue eyes of his were full of… concern.

"Asami, please try to be more careful," He whispered, "I don't want to lose you."

No, no, no. Ren don't say such heart pounding words. Don't play me like a fool. I'm not the same as those females, who melt into putty at every single word you say. He leaned in slowly. I raised my hand, quickly placing it on his chest pushing him back gently. He clearly got my signal. Was there a hint of rejection expressed in those blue eyes? I bit my bottom lip. Dear. God. Ren has never acted this way before. He smiled then left the room. Can't think straight. So confused. I pressed the button.

"Excuse me, but could you come quickly?! I think my pain medication has worn off."

Whenever there is a problem, I can't help myself from meddling. It's a bad habit. I could see that Asami was having some trouble with her luggage among the crowd of students entering the residence. I'm still immature. Cowardly. I must shape up. One must not leave an injured woman unattended.

"Asami, I'll take that bag," I spoke without realizing it.

"A-ah…-thanks Masato," She smiled, handing her shoulder bag over to me.

"No worries. You shouldn't overexert yourself."

No, no, no. Why did I say that?! I just said something unnecessary…-

"You're probably right," She chuckled, "I've been told the same thing from Yuudai."

"How do you feel now?" I asked, mainly out of concern.

"Fine," Asami sighed, "But that's probably the talk of the pain medication."

"…"

Women sure are vulnerable. But Asami appears to be very fragile. Her legs are quite slim, fingers delicate, even her lips… no, no, no… what am I thinking?!

"Sorry that the living room is a bit overcrowded," Asami said, breaking my thoughts, "It's mainly Chi's fashionable costumes and supplies."

"The costumes are very eccentric," I eyed a pink panda costume.

Asami sweat dropped, "Uh…- yeah. A bit vibrant."

"A bit too much for my taste."

"Thanks for helping me with my luggage. Chi would've helped out, but she's probably still struggling back at the entrance with her own luggage."

"Your welcome. I'll take my leave. Have a good nights sleep."

She smiled, "The same to you, Masato."

There's that 'doki-doki' sensation within my chest. I still can't speak to Asami casually. My body won't act on it even though I understand it in my mind. If I continue like this… I won't be able to express my feelings to her. Even though we're in different classes, I can't help myself to think about her. I'm afraid of losing control over my emotions and even…losing her.
