She ran as fast as she could, trying to keep Bofur in her sights but the dwarf kept running off ahead of her. She could hear the heavy footsteps of the men behind her and her breaths were becoming laboured. Her body heated up as she allowed herself to shift and soon the small weasel was swiftly making her way towards the hatted dwarf. Bofur looked down, panting, as the weasel climbed up his arm. Their attackers were closing in, they knew they couldn't outrun them.

"Lass it's no use...we're goners!"

All of a sudden they were tackled to the ground. The weasel latched onto the man's hand as he wrestled the dwarf. Her teeth sank into his skin and she felt blood pool into her mouth, the irony taste lying on her tongue. The man ceased from punching the dwarf unconscious to grab the weasel round her neck. Lark gasped as all the air left her and she struggle to free her from his grip. She started to shift back against her will and clawed at his hand. Tears poured from her eyes as she looked at Bofur's unconscious form and she slumped against the man's hold just as his three companions reached them. Before darkness took hold she heard them say.

"Well now Azog will be pleased!"

Fear gripped her and then all was black.

...

Several hours earlier...

"C'mon Kili!"

Lark sat on top of her One and prodded his stomach gently. He was fast asleep and refused to acknowledge her. Opening one eye he smirked at her face.

"Do we HAVE to go?"

"Yes Kili! We're all ready to get in the boats and I was sent to get you and as Fili put I could wake you in any way I want...you realize your brother has a sick mind?"

Kili ran a hand over his face.

"Yes yes I do. Always trying to pry into my sex life it's worrying!"

Lark giggled and jumped off him so he could sit up. Kili snaked an arm round her waist and pulled her back. She laughed as she fell onto him and he looked up at her deviously.

"If we stay here then we could have all the time we want!"

He captured her lips before she could protest and snaked his tongue into her mouth. She moaned and tangled her hands in her hair before biting his lip gently. They were both still getting used to this. Lark pulled away and looked at Kili her eyes full of adoration.

"We could but then we'd miss out on all the fun!"
"I have other types in mind..."

"And you call your brother sick minded!"

She jumped off him again and moved so he couldn't catch her. Kili huffed before getting up. He then grabbed his bag before stumbling a bit.

"Too much ale last night!"

Lark shook her head and nudged him playfully.

"Well whose fault is that?"

Kili pretended to think for a moment.

"Yours! Considering you challenged that you as a bear could out drink a dwarf!"

Lark bowed mockingly.

"And I did! Now everyone is by the boats! I'm off to find Bofur!"

She kissed him lightly before ruffling his hair.

"See you soon!"

She skipped towards the tavern and laughed as she looked back to see Kili stumbling in the opposite direction. With a smile on her face she entered the tavern and greeted the man behind the bar.

"Ello again lassie! Back for anaither roond?"

"No sir just picking up a friend!"

"Ah ee's unner the table!"

Smiling her thanks she crouched and spotted Bofur snoring quietly. Grabbing a bronze goblet and wooden spoon she banged them loudly by the dwarf's ear just as the door to the tavern opened again. The poor dwarf jumped awake and whacked his head off the table. His breath still smelt of ale as he spoke.

"Really lass? My head in humming enough as it is!"

"Sorry Bofur but we're already late enough as it is"

Dragging him out from under the table she turned to see four men standing behind her. They towered over the pair and Lark felt uneasy. She had left her weapons in her boat and now begun to regret that decision.

"Good morning gentlemen may we pass?"

One of the men bent down to her height and sneered.

"Bless the little dwarf and his little friend. The little shifter don't know what's appening!"

Lark raised an eyebrow confused.

"Okay...bye bye now!"
She pushed through them but then one grabbed her arm and squeezed it painfully. Bofur leant against her but his eyes filled with anger.

"Oi Ye cannae touch a lady like that!"

The first man spoke again.

"Aye but she ain't no lady is she? She is a shifter and that's exactly what the bounty wants!"

Lark's heart clenched nervously...bounty? What bounty? Who could possibly want her? Who actually knew about her?...She wrenched her hand out of the man's grip and the group forced them towards the wall. As she backed up Lark saw over the bar the owner lying dead, his mouth hug open as blood seeped from it and his eyes were wide with fear but glassy. A knife stuck from his chest and her breath stuck in her throat.

"What..what do you want?"

Her voice was barely a whisper.

The chunkiest of the men raised a hand and gripped her throat. Another pinned Bofur against a wall and he struggled as the throat-gripped lifted her and snarled in her ear.

"You!"

Lark tensed then all of a sudden feathers and wings sprouted from her and the large eagle clawed at the man. She dug her talons into the one holding Bofur and he screamed in agony. Then she seized Bofur's arm and tugged him towards the door. As soon as they had exited the building a large crowd blocked their way to the boats. She shifted back and looked at Bofur.

"Lass we cannae reach them, what do we do?"

The attackers stumbled out of the tavern and ran at them. Lark sprung at them shifting into a wolfhound and snarled at them. Her jaws were bared and her eyes were wild. She thought to Bofur.

"RUN!"
