SUPER QUICK DOUBLE CHAPTER!
It had taken them just under a day to reach the mountain's base and they were shocked to hear that the dragon had been slain by a young man called Bard. Kili stared mindlessly at the floor and thought of his One. She was still alive...he could feel it...Fili nudged his brother as they approached the mountain, along with Bofur, Bifur, the wizard, the two elves and Bard.
"She will be alright...wherever she is...right now we have bigger things to worry about..."
Kili sighed...it wasn't fair on Fili...or anyone with him being like this.
"You're right I'm sorry Fee..."
Fili was about to speak when the group stopped and a horn sounded. The brothers looked up to see the Company approach the balcony of the mountain.
"Who dares disturb Thorin son of Thrain son of Thror King Under the Mountain?"
Bard puffed out his chest and spoke with elegance.
"Bard, descendant of Girion Lord of Dale, and the slayer of the Great Wyrm! One who would have your allegiance and the riches that my people are due!"
Kili could see his uncle huff at the statement.
"You speak of me benefitting your kin yet you bring elves with you!"
Arandur bristled and Tauriel laid a soothing hand on his shoulder. Fili rolled his eyes.
"Uncle they are elves who helped us locate Bofur and Gandalf, elves who aided us here and elves who are friend to Lark! You need not question them for they do not seek to take anything they are not due! You are not yourself uncle, please see reason!"
Thorin bristled
"Do not tell me whether or not I am in my own mind boy!"
Fili flinched and a shout from Balin could be heard from the mountain...Kili knew he was not himself and looked to Gandalf. The wizard shook his head and muttered lowly.
"It's the gold sickness...the same that grasped your grandfather..."
Fili looked to his brother and both turned their gaze to their uncle...he was lost to them for now...until he regained his senses. Bard spoke again.
"Are you to comply with us King under the Mountain?"
"HERE IS ME COMPLYING SON OF MEN!"
An arrow flew from the mountain and Tauriel threw a dagger, deflecting it from hitting Bard. The descendant of Girion shook his head solemnly.
"I therefore declare your mountain besieged until you agree or die. Whether or not your men who are with me return is freely up to them! Farewell for now Oakenshield!"
"Get out of my sight!"
Bifur and Bofur looked torn and Fili turned to them as the two elves, Bard and Gandalf walked away.
"Go back to Bombur, he'll be needing you..."
"What about ye lads?"
Fili sighed and looke down...Kili rested a hand on his shoulder.
"We will stay with Bard and hope that Uncle will see sense...hopefully he will...if not then I hope our resident burglar has got another clever scheme!"
Bofur nodded and Bifur grunted before the pair headed for the mountain. Fili looked to his little brother.
"So what now?"
"I don't know Fee...I wish I had something to say but with Lark being away from me and Uncle like this...it's hard to say anything..."
...
A lone raven flew over the brothers heads, cawing loudly. It flew for miles to the Iron Hills and sought out Dain Ironfoot. As it made its return journey to Erebor, it saw the vast numbers of orcs and goblins en route to the Lonely Mountain. As it swooped low the largest warg it had ever seen, with fur darker than the deepest cavern and eyes blazing like fire, snapped at it. The she-warg growled lowly and caught some of the birds tail feathers in her mouth. As the raven became nothing but a speck in the sunset the black warg raised her head and howled a solemn, lonely howl...war was coming...
