"KILI!"
Her voice slipped in and out of his head as her felt the blood drain from his body. All was white and then a black figure entered his white cavern of nothingness. A voice called to him, ringing sweet as a bell and soothing any pain he'd once felt. Then it was gone.
Someone or something opened up his mouth and poured something down it. The irony tasting liquid burned his throat. Many voices now spoke and made loud drumming beat in his ears. He missed the voice, her voice. The pain in his leg flared up again and he began to move, trying to rid it from his body. Weight was applied to his chest and another horrid tasting fluid was run down his throat before he stilled and his mind went unconscious.
...
Fili cracked open an eye to see Dwalin sitting next to his bed. The hulking warrior had his arm in a sling and a large cut going down one eye. He smiled lightly when he saw that the prince had awoken.
"Welcome to the land of the living again! How do you feel?"
Fili coughed and tried to sit up but a jagging pain in his shoulder and spine told him otherwise. Dwalin placed his good hand lightly on the young dwarfs shoulder and lowered him onto his back.
"Like someone kicked me very hard in the back and then danced all over my chest..."
"Well ye did get trample on by a lot of orc and a whole load of other buggers. And yer stomach received a fair bit of damage but Oin says ye'll make a full recovery...yer always were a strong one."
Dwalin chuckled and looked into Fili's eyes. The crystal blue orbs hardened when he met Dwalin's.
"Kili?...Thorin?...Lark? the others how are they?"
Dwalin sighed and a lump rose in his throat.
"The others are alright. A few cuts and bruises here and there but nothing Oin cannae fix. Mr Baggins turned up this morn' with a right egg on his noggin..."
He trailed off.
"And my brother and uncle...Lark? How are they?"
"Yer brother has just come oot of theatre. His leg was mashed up pretty bad and he lost a lot of blood. But if ye take a gander to ye left ye can see he'll be fine...though he'll ave a permenant limp for the rest of his life says Oin."
Fili swallowed painfully and looked to his left. There was Kili, lying battered and broken, but alive. His chest rose and fell with ragged breaths and the crisp white sheets were pulled up to his chest, thought blood and muck dirtied the area round his leg an where his head lay on the pillow. He looked back to Dwalin, tears in his eyes.
"And Uncle?"
The warriors face fell.
"Fili...i...he's...he slipped away after speaking with Master Baggins. The wounds were badly infected and were too severe for operation."
Fili choked on a cry and let the tears roll down his cheeks. He had failed to protect his Uncle, but he had also never said goodbye. He covered his face with his hands. He would not make a scene, as Thorin would've said; A prince contains his emotions and keeps them to himself.
"I'm sorry lad...I failed him and ye...but when we found ye all it were to late...you and yer brother had passed out and Thorin was half deed...we wouldnae have found ye at all if it weren't for the lass' screaming..."
Fili looked up, tears leaving tracks on his face. "We found Lark! She is okay?"
"Lark..is alright...i suppose...she is very silent and hasnae spoken much after what happened...i'll tell ye what happened...there I was running around looking for you all when I sees this large black warg growling at Azog, the scum had been pierced by one of Kili's arrows. Anyway the warg curled in on itself as if it were in pain before a large spectre of sorts rose from it and passed away. It were mighty odd, the wargs coat changed from black to ash and it seemed to decrease in size and ferocity. Also the flaming orbs it had fer eyes changed from a harsh orange to blue...it lunged for Azog and tore him to pieces before my eyes...then it turned and looked straight at me...i didnae know what to do but the beast staggered away and collapsed. Next thing I knew I saw Lark climbing from where it fell, torn clothes all over her and she collapsed on yer brother screaming at him...took us near an hour to get er off."
Fili blinked...so the warg Azog was riding was Lark...she had betrayed them? No she wouldn't have...there must've been something else to that. He swallowed again, a lump was caught in his throat as he spoke.
"Where is she?"
"I'm right here..."
