Wow only two more chapters then it's all over...it's kinda sad isn't it? Well I'm happy to announce that I've reached 100 reviews! Yay! Go me! The favourites is getting there, but not quite at 100 yet. However we still have two more chapters so we have time! I'm glad that people are happy with what happened in the last chapter! I thought it was sweet having them see each other like that! Anyway I will stop yabbering on and continue with the chapter...
Kili fiddled with his tunic collar. Today was the day, the day that he would say goodbye to Thorin forever. A lump rose in his throat and he refused to let the tears fall. Even though the mountain was still in poor condition, they felt that it was time to let Thorin go. He would've wanted them to be focused on the mountain rather than his funeral. Typical of his uncle, always thinking of his people rather than himself. A single tear escaped and rolled slowly down Kili's face. There was a light knock and he choked.
"Come in!"
The door freaked open, a light layer of dust sweeping up into the air as it did so. Lark popped her head in before walking slowly into the room. She wore a black dress that fell over her perfectly. The long silk sleeves hung as she crossed her hands in front of her. She smiled a little when she saw Kili's crooked collar, she walked up to him, her smile faltered when she saw his tear filled eyes, and smoothed out her One's tunic.
"It'll be ok...he...he wouldn't want us to feel like this."
Kili nodded, unable to speak and looked down. More tears fell and his stubble began to feel damp. Lark took his chin and lifted his head. Cupping his face in her hands, she brushed the tears away with her thumbs. Her own eyes were filled with tears, but it was not her time to cry.
"Let's go."
Kili swallowed nervously.
"Alright.."
Lark took his hand and squeezed it lightly before leading him towards the main hall.
... ... .. ...
His body was dresses in dark blue and black. His hair was lain about him and all the dirt and blood was washed from him. The frown lines and wrinkles in his face were smoothed away and his eyes were closed. He looked as it he were sleeping, sleeping peacefully for the first time in 60 years. Fili and Kili walked up to their uncle and lay a hand on his chest.
"Thank you Uncle, for...for everything..."
Kili bent over and kissed his uncle's forehead before returning to sit by Lark. He looked down at his lap before Lark pulled his head onto her shoulder and he wept silently.
Fili bent over and whispered in his uncles ear. He too then kissed the fallen kings forehead before walking to address the congregation. Lark could see him pant nervously and sent him a reassuring smile, even though tears fell from her eyes. Balin wept next to her and she could see Dwalin barely holding it together. The rest of the company all were red eyed and tearful.
"Today we part with an inspirational leader. An inspiration to dwarves across the seven kingdoms. Thorin son of Thrain son of Thror, King Under the Mountain was slain in the Battle of the Five Armies..."
Murmurs rose from the crowd.
"He died believing in an idea. The idea that we, the dwarves of Erebor, would reunite with our homeland and once again be the prosperous nation that we were in days of yore. An uncle, a brother, a loyal friend and leader; Thorin Oakenshield will forever be missed by many great and far. Today we honour his name and remember the idea that he died for..."
Fili looked quickly at Lark and Kili before looking towards king Thranduil, who had come to pay his respects with many if his kin, and Bard, who too had come to pay his respects.
"But today is also one of new bonds and beginnings. For today we forge a union with the men of Dale and the men of the Lake. Today we also rekindle our union with the Woodelves of Mirkwood."
Dwarves began to talk loudly and some sent disapproving looks. Fili raised a hand and the hall quickly silenced.
"This hatred between us has gone on long enough and we fought alongside each other in the great battle. Many an elf gave their life in order to protect our mountain. For that sacrifice I offer to you King Thranduil the jewels of fallen stars for I know that you hold their light dearly to your kind."
With that a dwarf approached Thranduil, who looked somewhat amazed, and presented a wooden box. The elf king took it gingerly from him and opened it. The silvery light glowed in his eyes and he smiled and nodded to Fili. Thranduik passed the box to one of his kin and approached the crown prince. He laid a hand on his chest and nodded. Fili returned the gesture and bored the proud smiles that his brother and Lark wore. Thranduil looked to the congregation.
"I too have a gift, but it is for our fallen comrade."
He pulled out Orcrist and raised it high.
"For a once respected King may it guard you whilst you sleep!"
He approached Thorin's lifeless form and lay the great elf blade on his chest, before returning to his seat. Fili smiled and looked to his fellow men.
"Now let us rebuild this mountain and restore this land with peace! DU BEKAR!"
Dwarves, men and elves alike stood and clapped. The chanting of mighty dwarves echoed throughout the halls and Lark smiled as she clapped. Kili whooped next to her, tears of happiness in his eyes. He caught her round her waist and spun her round laughing happily. This was the way Thorin would've wanted to go. Lark giggled and hugged Kili's neck as Fili approached them, Kili put her down gently his arm still on her waist. Fili raised his eyebrows.
"Well?"
The couple smiled.
"Spoken like a TRUE king!"
The trio all hugged before Fili and Kili escorted Lark from the tombs towards the lifof the mountain. It was time to finish what Thorin had started...
Soooooooo next chapter is Fili's coronation and Lark will now definitely have a baby-bump so there may be a lot of love on that front. The it's the epilogue, then its all over! Plz tell me your thoughts on this chapter, I thought instead of a very sad send off, thorin would've prefered cheering and happiness as he left. Need more favourites before the end plz! Till the next chapter...TTFN XOXO
