Sian stood on the opposite side of the road of her father's office and waited. After a few minutes, her dad came down and waved at her when he spotted her. Then as he was crossing the road, a car came out of nowhere and hit him. As Sian saw his bloody and broken body lying still on the road in a matter of seconds, the only thing she could hear was the man's last words.
"You will be responsible for the consequences now Ms. Dent."
Chapter: 23
Sian felt numb. She felt herself drifting in and out. She felt like her only source of life had been taken from her.
She felt like dying.
She saw the medics, she saw the cops, she saw them taking her father's stretcher inside an ambulance, but when they asked her questions the only thing she could do was to stare at them blankly.
She wasn't seeing.
She could hear the blaring of the sirens, she could hear the questions, the people around her shouting and screaming and murmuring, but she couldn't response.
She wasn't actually listening.
Sian felt lost.
She sat in the waiting room and stared at her blood stained hands. They had taken him to the emergency, saying his condition was critical.
After an hour, the doctor came out. His face tired and sad as he stood in front of her to give her the news. His words barely registered to Sian's shocked brain.
The only words she could pick out were 'sorry', 'best', 'bad shape' and 'coma'.
When he walked out of the room saying she could see him in an hour, she collapsed on the chair again. Sitting there with a blank expression in her face.
Someone put a hand on her shoulder and she looked up. She stared at the nurse in front of her blankly as she smiled.
"Ms. Dent?" Sian nodded. "Do you want to wash up? The restroom is this way."
She showed her the restroom and without a word Sian followed her direction. As she washed the blood from her hands and shirt and splashed water on her face, the truth finally dawned to her. She stared at her reflection in the mirror and she thought.
Her father had an accident.
He was hit by a car.
He was in a coma.
He might not wake up ever again.
It was possibly her fault.
She remembered the man's face when he was leaving Tony's office.
"You will be responsible for the consequences now Ms. Dent."
They tried to kill him.
Her bottom lip quivered as she tried to not cry. A sob escaped her mouth.
They tried to kill my father.
But she pulled herself together. This was the final straw. She'd made her decision.
Sian sat there holding her father's hand and listened to the rhythmic beep of the heart monitor, the only sound that showed he was still alive. He looked horrible. His left hand was in a cast along with his left leg. The doctor said he had broken a few of his ribs, and there was a huge bandage around his head, covering almost half of his face. They said his head was hurt badly, which was the reason of his coma.
There was a knock. Sian looked up and saw Agent Rhodes smiling.
"Ms. Dent," Her smiled widened. "May I come in?"
Sian nodded. She came in and sat on the couch in the corner of the room, then she patted next to her, when Sian made no move to get up from the chair beside her father's bed, her smile slowly faded.
"I am terribly sorry for your loss Ms. Dent…"
"Why are you here?" Sian's voice was quiet but strong, unlike the first time they'd met.
"Well I'm sure you know very well why I'm here." In a matter of a second, her eyes turned stony. "Don't you Ms. Dent?" When Sian didn't answer she continued. "Listen Sian- can I call you Sian? – This people that your going against, they are very strong, and powerful. You alone will never work. It will only bring you accidents. It's your father this time and it's only a coma. What if it's someone else you love next time? What if it's more than a coma? Do you want that?" She smiled very sweetly. "Sian, you're a very bright girl. You have an amazing life ahead of you. Do not let this be the end of you. Do you understand?"
Sian stared at her for a second before she nodded.
"Then I believe we're done here." Agent Rhodes got up and smiled again. "I believe you'll understand how dangerous they are and you will stop."
When Agent Grey got there, Sian was asleep. Her position in the couch was weird and looked very uncomfortable. She was sure to get a cramp when she woke up. So he decided that it wouldn't be too bad if he woke her up. He gently shook her shoulder and called her.
"Sian. Sian wake up."
"What?" She opened her eyes and blinked before they settled on him. "Grey? What are you doing here?"
Grey eyed her worriedly as she sat up and yawned. She looked exhausted, there were already bags under her eyes and she looked like she hadn't eaten anything the whole day.
"Did you eat?" He asked. Sian shook her head. "Let's go to the cafeteria then. Their food is crap, but it'll have to do for now."
After they had settled in a corner of the hospital cafeteria and Sian had dig in her mac n' cheese, Grey finally answered her question.
"I came to see how you were doing. What happened?"
Sian told him about everything, starting from Tony's and ending with Agent Rhodes. When she was done Grey looked worried.
"How is he now?"
"Not good." Sian said as she swallowed hard. "Doctors said he might not wake up."
Grey didn't want to, but he had to do the next part. It was important.
"Sian, listen, I understand if you don't want to do this now,"
"I want to do this." She said firmly. "No, Grey. I need to do this."
"But Agent Rhodes…"
"Rhodes can go to hell!" She snapped. "I know what she said Grey. I know what she meant. But the thing is Grey I-I don't have anyone else." Her nose turned red and blood rushed to her pale cheeks as her voice broke. "I have no one else that I care about. The only man I cared about is now in a coma. And if I…. if I loose him I have nothing to live for. So if I loose him Grey…if he dies, I at least want to make sure that it wasn't in vain. That at least he died for something important and the people that were responsible for this did not go unpunished." She gulped down the water and smashed the plastic cup in her hand. "Now if we're clear here, did you bring it?"
Grey nodded and pulled out the papers from his coat pocket. "Are you sure you want to do this now? I mean it was a long day and it's almost ten…"
"Just show them. I need to have every kind of information on this."
"Okay, then." Grey smoothed the papers and laid them on the table. The first one was a girl with long blonde hair that looked like it hadn't been washed for days and chocolate brown eyes. She was glaring at the camera so hard that even though it was a photo she flinched. Sian immediately recognized her as Experiment 000333.
"These are all from FBI's record from nine years ago." Grey tapped his finger over the girl's photo. "This is Max. At the time her age was 14."
"14?" Sian furrowed her brows. "She doesn't look 14."
"No, they look older than their age." Grey turned up the next page. "Nick, also 14, he was the one injured, the wound marks," he showed a photo below the boy's photo. It was of bloody cuts on the boy's chest. "They looked like claw marks."
"Those wolves?" Sian asked.
"Possibly." He turned the next page. "Ariel, age 6." Next page. "Tiffany Krystal, 11." Next page. "Uh, um, Captain Terror."
"I'm sorry?" Sian looked at the name and sure enough that's what was written.
"Captain Terror." Grey laughed a little. "He was nine." He turned the last page. "Jeff, he was 14 and was blind."
"Blind?" Sian looked at the picture and her brows furrowed again.
"What is it?" Grey asked.
"I-I think I've seen him."
"What?"
"Yeah. He looks familiar."
"Are you sure?" Grey said suspiciously.
"Grey, there are many things that I'm not good at, but I am good at this. I never forget a face." She said confidently.
"All right." Grey folded the papers, thinking that she was just tired, that's all. "Well, we'll think about it later. Here" He gave her the papers. "Read them, but there isn't much in here."
"But-" Sian said sensing that he had something else to tell.
Grey sighed. "When my wife went undercover, she gave me some information, a name actually. She told me to get help from him if I needed to, guess she knew that I was going to go after them at last." He gave a sad smile. "I think he was involved with this 000333 somehow."
"How do I find him?"
"That's not a problem. She gave me some addresses, too. Almost ten of them. She didn't say which is the correct one though."
He took out another paper and gave it to Sian. He was right, there were almost ten addresses. She looked at the name above.
Charles Siemens.
