Chapter 1

As I set off on my journey from the quaint little town of Ballonlea, I wondered: why am I here? The sound of a pokemon cry from my left snapped me to attention.

"Litwiiick!" My Litwick, Calcifer, was shaking my leg. A Corvinight Taxi had appeared in front of me, and getting out of it was an old man, with a potbelly and grey suit and waistcoat with a red tie. Calcifer hid behind me: he didn't trust this man. Since Calcifer's judgement was never wrong, neither did I. He looked down on me… and suddenly gave a warm and welcoming smile.

"My name is Rose. How do you do, dear fellow?"

I suddenly backed away from him. "You're…you're that dangerous criminal who tried to blow up the Galar region! Get away from me!"

His face suddenly lost all of its cheerful vigour, and contorted with sadness. "That…was in the past. People have often told me that I had the right motivations, but was doing it the wrong way. I've tried to make amends, but to no avail. I am still a criminal in the eyes of the people. Anyways!" He brought out three pokeballs. "I have an offer for you. You can choose out of any of these pokemon…if you come and work for me. Don't worry, no terrorism involved. I'll even endorse you in the gym challenge."

"What does this job entail?"

"All you need to do is report to me how things look around Galar from time to time. It's just data for Professor Sonia."

"Hmmmm…well, there's nothing to do in Ballonlea anyway, so I guess I'll come with you."

"Excellent! Now, where are your parents? I need parental consent before I give you these pokemon."

One very lengthy parental talk later, Rose came out of my house, smiling with glee. "Your mum and dad agreed, once they got over the shock of seeing me. Oh, I forgot! What's your name, child?"

"Arcturus."

"Alright then, here are the three pokemon!"
