AN: Wow it has been a long time, and for that I am very sorry.
(hen night)
Alice soon-to-be Longbottom spends some of her hen night in a bathroom throwing up.
She's not sure what it could be, but just previously she had been eating the absolutely fantastic ambrosia Dorcas had brought round before they were going to hit the town. Alice doesn't understand, because she has always loved ambrosia and she isn't allergic to anything in it.
After brushing her teeth and cleaning up, she walks back into her little living room, where Marlene and Dorcas are having an impromptu dance party.
"Oh good, you're back. You alright? Because I told the other girls we would meet them at the Three Broomsticks in ten minutes." Marlene says, giving her the once over and nodding, obviously satisfied Alice is looking good enough to venture outside.
"Oh Marlene, I'm sorry but that ambrosia just didn't agree with me and – "
"Alice!" Marlene shrieks, her eyebrows raising. "It is your hen night. Tomorrow morning you are going to be married to Frank, whom I do love dearly, but darling you are far better than him and I want to have one last night of celebrations with you where we both get horribly drunk."
Dorcas pitches in then "Yeah, but Mar, if she's not feeling well couldn't we just invite the girls round here, or just postpone. I'm sure you'd rather Alice was feeling top notch tomorrow and not spewing her guts up in the morning."
Marlene sighs and rolls her eyes and puts her glass of wine down. Alice can tell she's upset, but she can also tell she is worried for her friend.
"Marlene, babe, I'll be fine. I can come out for a few drinks. I don't know what came over me, just a little bad bit of ambrosia I suppose. I will tell you if I'm not feeling good and then if that happens we'll call it a night. After all, you need a break from your bridesmaid duties, both of you."
Dorcas and Marlene grin and high five.
It's much later, when Alice is just a little bit tipsy, that she stumbles into the bathroom and bangs into the young Lily Evans and Mary MacDonald. They're giggling in the mirror and applying lipstick and Alice just sits on the toilet seat and groans.
"God, Alice, tomorrow you're gonna be married." Lily says.
"I know." Alice moans back.
"Aren't you freaking out?" Mary asks, pursing her lips and fluffing her hair.
"Yes."
"Come on Mary, you know Reg is going to ask you to marry you soon, you'd be freaking out about marrying him too." Lily pipes up, elbowing her friend in the ribs.
Alice looks at the two girls and smiles. "I love Frank, I know I will love him for as long as I live and I want to marry him and have a family with him."
"You'll wait a few more years for that though won't you?" Lily asks, looking very concerned about the possibility of a kid at Alice's young age.
"Well, Lily remember I am three years older than you dear but yes I think I would like to wait just a few more years, even though oh can't you just imagine a little Frank and I running –"
And Alice stops. She seems to stare into space for a while and Lily and Mary look at each other dubiously.
"Oh Merlin." Alice finally says. "Oh no no no no no."
"You alright love?" Lily says.
"I think I might be pregnant."
There is a long pause and then Lily and Mary lean against the sinks and "Oh my god" they both say.
Alice nods. "I need to see Frank. I need to see Frank right now. Oh my god. Oh my god."
"Oh my god." Mary repeats.
"Lily, go and get Dorcas and tell her to find Frank and bring him here right now please."
"Okay."
It takes ten minutes and then her dashing soon-to-be husband is crouching in front of her in the ladies bathroom at the Three Broomsticks.
"What's wrong Al?" He whispers, clutching her hands with a tight grip and a white face.
She just looks at him. She takes in his messy dark hair and wide grey eyes. The forehead crinkles from being an Auror, his laughter lines and stubble. The way his shoulders seem to fall when she doesn't reply.
"Do you want to call off the wedding?" He asks, and it's his broken tone that snaps her out of her daze.
She chokes. "Of course I still want to marry you." Now she's started crying. "I love you Frank." She reaches up and strokes his jaw before resting her head on his shoulder.
"Al, you need to tell me what's wrong, you're scaring me." He is still holding her hands and she thinks he is about to squeeze her fingers off.
"How would you feel about a mini Longbottom running around our flat very soon?" She manages to whisper out before hiding her face in his thick coat.
Alice can feel his mouth moving, as if he's trying to figure out what to say and do.
"Darling," he begins, a strangled tone to his voice, "are you saying that you're, you're pregnant?"
It is as if everyone in the world has taken a breath as she slowly meets his eyes. The air is filled with questions and worry and Alice doesn't know what to do.
"I think I might be." She says and smiles feebly, hoping Frank isn't mad.
But of course he isn't. He's Frank and he loves her and she loves him and everything will be okay.
"Well then, looks like we're going to have to go to a Healer as soon as we're married my love." He says and kisses her forehead, letting out a soft laugh and pulling her closer.
"Are you not angry?"
"Of course I'm not, it's our baby and he or she is proof I have been able to sleep with the most gorgeous woman in the world."
Alice slaps his shoulder. "Shut up you muppet."
