Chapter 5

My Curse

"Noooo!" Wailed Blaze as a boulder was hurtling downhill towards her, she shut her eyes to brace for the impact.

CRAAAASSHHH!

Blaze felt her body, still in one piece. "Huh? I'm still alive? What was that noise?"

Blaze's eyes crept open, in front of her was a pile of stone rubble and two red and white shoes, her eyes slowly crept up to see the man who saved her, none other than the smiling face of Sonic the Hedgehog.

"Hey Blaze! Looks like you could use a hand there." Sonic extended his hand to help Blaze up.

"Oh? He saved me, how nice..." Blaze saw Sonic's hand and swatted it away, getting up by herself. "Hmmph! I could have gotten out of that myself you know. I'm not some weak little princess."

"Meee-yow!" Growled Sonic, "Feisty feisty girl! I like that!"

Blaze blushed.

"So, what are you doing all the way down here Blaze?"

As a royal Sol princess, Blaze could never tell a lie. "I'm here looking for a Chaos Emerald."

"Cool! I didn't know there was a Chaos Emerald here! I just came here to hide from Amy."

Blaze smiled, this hedgehog was funny.

As Sonic was showing off and bragging, Blaze saw a swarm of Buzz Bombers behind Sonic. "Hyyaaa!" She threw a fireball at them, bursting the robots into scrap metal.

"Whoa! I guess I got kind of caught up there."

"Now we're even." Smiled Blaze "Think you can keep up with me, slowpoke?"

"Oh your on!"

The two blurs raced through the Desert Labyrinth Zone, their combined powers of wind and fire blazed the trail of enemies and traps. For the first time in a long time, Blaze was genuinely happy "I can't believe how much fun this is!"

Out of the corner of her copper cat eye, Blaze saw something, she sniffed the air and knew exactly what it was. "Sonic stop!"

Scccreeeeecchhh! "Huh? What is it Blaze?"

"Look at this pool of water, can't you smell it? Its a mineral bath, its really good for your skin and feels amazing."

"Ummm... its just a puddle. Let's go! Let's go!"

"My my, aren't we impatient? You need to know how to relax Sonic. Enjoy life a little."

Blaze got into the crystal clear shimmering mineral water. "Mmm... this feels so good, come on in Sonic."

"What? Your wasting time taking a bath? Right now?"

"I made it nice and hot." Blaze heated the bath with her skin, one of the most convenient uses of her fire powers.

"No way!" Growled the hasty hedgehog. "These feet were made for running."

"Alright, have fun getting through all the fire traps all by yourself," giggled Blaze.

"Oh what the hell? CANNONBALL!"

"SPLASH!"

"Haha! Sonic!" Blaze hadn't felt like this in years, actually having fun again, she hadn't truly even laughed since before she burned Marine. But there was just something about this hedgehog that felt so... different... from anyone else she had ever met. Around Sonic she didn't have to be a princess, she could just be herself.

After a short bath, the two wet animals got out of the mineral bath. "Race you to dry off!" Challenged Blaze.

"Oh your on puffball!"

SPIIINNNNN!

"Haha! I win!" Cheered Blaze.

"No fair! Your like a walking clothes dryer."

The two shared a laugh and had a moment looking at each others eyes.

Sonic and Blaze rushed through the rest of the Desert Labyrinth Zone, Blaze was a bit sidetracked, taking glances every now and then at the hedgehog beside her instead of the dangers ahead, she felt the floor crumble beneath her, but it was too late to jump. "Ahhh!"

"Blaze!" Sonic quickly grabbed Blaze's hand before she fell, she was dangling over a pit of spikes, but all Blaze could think about was Sonic, his bravery and quick wits, the sweaty texture of his hand.

"You OK there kitty?" Sonic pulled Blaze up, the two sets of eyes met, staring into each others souls, Blaze was close enough to feel the hedgehog's body heat and the thumping of his heart.

"I guess its not so bad being the princess in distress every once in awhile... As long as I get to be saved by someone like him."

Blaze closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of the hedgehog's body. "Is he going to kiss me?" The hedgehog's lips were getting closer and closer, she could taste his breath in the air... their lips were about to meet until..."

CRASH!

"Ah ha! I've found you my blue nemesis!" Growled the deep voice of a human.

"Doctor Eggman!" Shouted Sonic, breaking the romantic mood.

"That's me!" Grinned the eccentric doctor. "Oh and you've got a new partner, it looks like you've ditched miss Pinky for a new girl! I never imagined you as the romantic type Sonic."

Blaze saw a fat bald human with a thick mustache hovering in a floating Eggmobile, she could tell he was up to go good.

"Looky what I found Sonic." Gloated the fat doctor, holding up a shining jewel.

"A Chaos Emerald! Give that back Eggman!"

"Make me blue boy! It looks like you've got yourself a new girlfriend, well I've got a few new toys for the Eggmobile as well! Here! Have a taste of my new recipe, hedgehog cordon BLUE!"

Eggman pushed a button on a flamethrower, sending a massive stream of flames bursting towards Sonic.

"Sonic watch out!" Blaze quickly dashed in front of Sonic, blocking the flames with her fire shield, the two sources of fire exploded into a violent conflagration. The resulting explosion sent Sonic flying back, colliding with the ancient stone walls.

This was a recurring nightmare for the flaming cat, once again she failed to control her powers, once again she hurt someone she cared about.

"No! Sonic!" Blaze rushed over to help Sonic.

"Haha! Looks like your goose has been cooked! Thanks for the Chaos Emerald! Bon Voyage! Later my pesky blue nemesis."

Lying in a pile of rubble was Sonic, burned and bruised from the explosion.

Blaze cried. "Did I hurt you? This always happens! First Marine and now you! I can never control this curse."

"Ugh, its going to take more than that to keep me down."

"Sonic, your OK" Blaze was about to hug Sonic but stopped suddenly. "No... I've hurt him enough."

Sonic was limping, Blaze noticed pebbles dropping from the ceiling, the cave was about to collapse! "Sonic! We've got to get out of here right now! Give me your hand!"

"No way! I can get out on my own!"

"Stop being stubborn, your hurt!"

Blaze took Sonic's hand and began to run, rubble from the ceiling was tumbling down, crashing on the floor, missing Blaze and Sonic by inches. The two took left and right turns, dodging the falling rocks and bottomless pits. Blaze and Sonic barely had enough time to escape before the entrance collapsed into dust.

Blaze took time to catch her breath, Sonic was limping beside her.

"Sonic, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to."

Blaze noticed Sonic's tail was clear and shiny. She touched it and found it was smooth and cold, just like glass.

"Oh no." Blaze began to cry. " Its my curse again, I'm so sorry Sonic, I did this! I'm terrible!"

"Stop it Blaze, don't worry about me, I don't want to see you cry... just... smile..."

Blaze dried off her tears and forced herself to crack a fake smile.

"That's it kitty, relax, we can handle this. We've got to get to my friend Tails, he'll know what to do."

The two adventurers rushed across the desert in search of Tails' workshop.

Thanks to "Just a fan" the guest for suggesting the glass idea. In Frozen, Elsa turns Anna to ice with her powers. I didn't know what Blaze would curse Sonic with until he suggested glass, because glass is made from fire and sand. I didn't originally want to put Eggman into the story, but he fit into causing a chaotic situation that would cause Blaze to curse Sonic, just like the giant snow monster was the cause of Else cursing Anna in the movie. Oh and I just love the new Sonic Boom cartoon, its hilarious.
