Chapter 1: Gifts From Heaven

At Rosalina's Observatory

Mario and Luigi have just arrived at the request of Rosalina. They walked into the main room where the Rosalina is with the seven star spirits. Mario and Luigi were wondering why it was urgent they arrive so quickly. That is when Rosalina approached the brothers.

"Mario and Luigi! Thank you for answering my summons so quickly." Rosalina said with gratitude.

"No problem Rosalina. But, what did you need us for? Did something happen?" Mario asked.

"Oh no, nothing is wrong. But the incident with Cursa got me thinking that I could use some bodyguards."

"And that is why you asked for us?" Luigi asked.

"Yes, but I won't be asking you to stay by my side twenty four seven. You have your own lives that I do not want to rip you from. Instead, I want to clone you two."

"Clone us?" Mario and Luigi asked in unison.

"Yes, that is why the star spirits are here and I have gathered two grand stars as well." Rosalina then pulled out two grand stars.

"I see, it sounds like a good idea Rosalina. But I am worried if these clones go rogue." Mario said in concern.

"Oh I have already thought about that Mario. You see the clones will be born as babies instead of a perfect clone. Also it is rather difficult to clone star children. Even if the clones were to reach their full potential they would only be about fifty percent of you and your brothers power." Rosalina explained.

Mario and Luigi discussed this between themselves for a while before Mario turned to Rosalina.

"We're still not to sure about this, but if you think you need the extra protection then we'll go along with it." Mario said giving Rosalina a thumbs up.

"Thanks you two. Now then let us begin."

Rosalina then guided Mario and Luigi into the center of the room where the star spirits have gathered. Soon Rosalina threw the grand stars above Mario and Luigi, they floated above them and began to absorb some of their essence. The star spirits began to channel some of their power into the grand stars and slowly the form of a baby began to show in each grand star. Everything seemed to be going well, until the grand stars began to pulsate violently.

"What's going on?" Luigi asked.

"I did say cloning star children is difficult, even for the grand stars." Rosalina explained.

Soon the grand stars began to make shockwaves that began to destroy the room. The star spirits began to take cover and Mario and Luigi dove towards Rosalina and protected her with their bodies. The grand stars continued to pulsate until they shot out the clones into space. Afterwards the grand stars dropped down to the floor, drained of their power.

"Mamamia, what happened?" Mario asked.

"The grand stars became unstable with the amount of power they put into creating your clones. It seems like they launched your clones into space." Rosalina explained.

"Oh no, are they going to be okay?" Luigi asked.

"Don't worry. The energies from the grand stars will protect them during their travels through space. I just hope wherever they land is safe. Now do you two mind helping me in fixing this place."

"Not at all." Mario and Luigi said as they pulled out their tools.

While the Mario Bros. and Rosalina were busy fixing her observatory the clones were sent flying far into the other side of the universe.

In the forests on a planet on the other side of the universe

A giant boar with flames surrounding it was running from something. After running into a dead end it quickly looked around for an exit until.

"Got you!"

The boar turned to face the assailant, only to be met by a flaming fist into it's skull killing it instantly. The assailant stood proudly over her kill, a young woman with blue eyes, long, wavy vermillion colored hair and red markings around her eyes. This was Mereoleona Vermillion, the eldest daughter of the Vermillion family.

"Now I got dinner." She said as carried her catch over to the clearing she was camping at.

As she was cutting up the pieces of meat she solemnly looked towards the stars. She had just attended the funeral of Acier Silva, her friend and teacher. One of the last things Mereoleona spoke of with Acier was of a mother's love for her children. The look of determination and the strength she projected when she was pregnant with her last child was something Mereoleona admired. Mereoleona began to think, perhaps she should find a man to settle down with and have children. Suddenly, Mereoleona punches a nearby tree, knocking it down.

"As if, there is no man alive strong enough to tame me. But still, I would like some cubs of my own to raise." She said as she continued to gaze at the night sky.

That is when she noticed a shooting star. She clasped her hands together and began to wish on it. She did not believe in the myth surrounding shooting stars, but one of the most common subjects she and Acier spoke of was the stars and peoples belief in them. She did this in memory of her friend. As she finished her wish she looked up and saw that the star was glowing brighter, and getting bigger, and getting closer.

"Ah crap." She said as she ducked out of the way of the incoming projectile.

The strange object fell into the clearing with a loud crash and created a crater where it landed. As Mereoleona went to investigate she heard something. The sound, it was of babies crying.

"Impossible." She said as she investigated the hole.

When the smoke cleared she saw two babies inside the crater. As she examined them she noticed that each one she noticed that they each had a colored cap and no injuries of any kind.

"Well where did you two come from? There's not a scratch on you." The babies looked up to Mereoleona and reached for her. "What, no, I'm not you're..." She then thought about her wish. "Be careful what you wish for, so they say."

With that she scooped up the babies and made her way back to the capital.

The Vermillion household.

A young man with purple eyes and long, straight vermillion hair and purple eyes with red marking around them as well, was walking through the castle walls. This was Fuegoleon Vermillion, the eldest son of the Vermillion household and younger brother of Mereoleona. Suddenly a servant came running up to him.

"Fuegoleon sir! We have a situation!" The servant said in a panic.

"What is it?" Fuegoleon asked.

"It's your sister sir."

"What's wrong? What happened to Mereoleona?"

"Nothing's wrong Fuegoleon, but I do have a problem." Mereoleona answered as she walked towards her brother.

Fuegoleon then noticed the two babies she was carrying with her.

"Are those babies yours dear sister?"

"No, come with me and I'll explain."

Mereoleona motioned to an empty room so they could speak in private. After explaining the origins of the babies and the circumstances leading her to their discovery Fuegoleon sat in silence, going over all the information Mereoleona gave him.

"So what are you going to do with them?"

"I want to adopt them."

"Really?"

"Yes, there is something special about these two. Place your hand on one of them."

Fuegoleon did as instructed. And he felt something from the child. It wasn't mana, or at least not normal mana, but there was something there, something powerful.

"I see, their magic is certainly special. But are you sure you want to adopt them sister?"

"Yes I am."

"Does this have anything to do with Acier? I still remember the speech she gave you when she was pregnant."

"Perhaps."

"Very well. Then I suggest we get a maid to help you in learning about motherhood first."

Fuegoleon held his nose as a foul odor filled the room.

"Yes, I definitely should." Mereoleona said in agreement while she also held her nose.

After a maid came in and showed her how to change a diaper and gave her supplies for taking care of babies they all went to sleep. In the morning Mereoleona took off with her mother into the capital. When filling out the forms for adoption she decided to name them Matthew Vermillion and Leon Vermillion. Afterwards Mereoleona decided to stay in the capital until the boys were old enough to get their grimoires.

Five years later

Mereoleona was in the courtyard with her brother Fuegoleon and her two sons. Outside was a set of training dummies that were set up to test the boys magical abilities.

"Alright my little cubs, today we see what your magical attribute is. Just channel your mana like I taught you two." Mereoleona said.

Matthew stepped up first and channeled his magic into his hands. A golden orb of energy shot out towards the dummy and destroyed it. His brother Leon then stepped up and did the same as his brother and also produced a golden orb of energy.

"Hmm, what magical attribute would that be sister? Could it be light magic?" Fuegoleon asked.

"No, it wasn't fast enough. Plus light magic has a different color. It is pure white, theirs is gold." Mereoleona answered.

"Is something wrong mother?" Leon asked.

"No, it's just that your attribute is different. You see when you shoot out your mana like that it takes the form of your elemental attribute. Like this." Mereoleona shot out a fire ball burning one dummy. "Mine and your uncle's element is fire, so we shoot out flames if we just release our mana."

After listening Matthew channels his mana again and this time he shoots out a fireball.

"Matthew, how did you do that?" Fuegoleon asked.

"Well, I just thought "I want to shoot out fire." and I was able to."

"Can you do that with the other elements?" Mereoleona asked.

Matthew attempted a different element and was able to shoot out earth, water, lightning and wind. He tried light and darkness, but he wasn't able to. Leon attempted the same thing and was able to use all the basic elements as well.

"Amazing, with this you two can become great magic knights." Fuegoleon said in awe.

"Really?" Matthew and Leon asked in unison.

"Yes, you see most magic knights take on missions in teams to cover any elemental weaknesses they may have. But with your access to all the basic elements you are a team onto yourselves." Mereoleona explained.

With renewed determination the brothers threw themselves into training with their mother and uncle. They continued training like this for the next few hours before retiring indoors.

Five more years later

Matthew and Leon were in the forests on the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom. They were waiting for their mother to begin training, but she was running late.

"Any idea where mother is?" Leon asked Matthew.

"I don't know. She's never late for training, somethings wrong."

Suddenly the brothers found themselves surrounded by twenty purple orca magic knights.

"Matthew and Leon Vermillion?" The leader asked.

"Yes?" Matthew responded as he and Leon got into a fighting stance.

"You are to come with us."

"I don't think that's such a good idea. You see, we're waiting for our mother and you do not want to get her mad."

"There's an emergency in the capital. Your mother sent us to get you. Now come along."

"Do you have any proof of your claim?" Leon asked.

"My word is all the proof you need. Now be good children and come along!" The leader said beginning to get more agitated.

Matthew and Leon still refused.

"Fine, we do this the hard way." The leader said as he motioned for his fellow magic knights to capture the children.

Matthew and Leon were quick to react and leapt away from the first magic knights. When two more came from behind with a water and fire attack. Matthew and Leon were able to coat their fists with the respective counter element and destroyed the magical attacks. They then punched the shocked magic knights knocking them away. Four more purple orcas shot out capture magic at the brothers. However, Matthew and Leon were able to destroy the magic attacks with their own magic coated fists. Thanks to the training they received from their mother and the fact that these magic knights were attempting to capture them, not kill them, the brothers were able to take down ten of twenty purple orcas. But, they were running low on mana and physically exhausted.

"Give up, you can't possible hope to beat full fledged magic knights." The leader said as he was panting with exhaustion.

"Really, we already took out half of your men and we don't even have grimoires. Isn't it embarrassing losing to children." Matthew taunted.

"You damn brat!" The leader shouted as he charged up another magic attack.

But he was hit by a flame attack from behind. When the remaining purple orcas looked towards the attacker, they saw a very pissed off Mereoleona.

"Now what were you planning to do to my cubs?" She said as she approached the remaining purple orcas.

The other purple orcas could only shake in fear as she approached. Soon pain filled screams filled the air as flames could be seen coming from the battle field. Afterwards we she a group of beaten and charred purple orcas tied up. Mereoleona then pulled Matthew and Leon into a hug.

"I'm sorry I was late my cubs. I was held up in the capital, but I saw how you two took out half of them. I'm so proud of you."

"Thanks mother." Matthew and Leon said in unison.

"Let's go. We'll have to skip training today so we can take care of this problem." Mereoleona said as picked up the group of beaten purple orcas.

When they returned to the Vermillion household Fuegoleon was the first to greet them.

"Hello sister." Fuegoleon then noticed the cuts and bruises Matthew and Leon had, as well as the group of unconscious purple orcas. "What happened?"

Mereoleona then explained the situation to Fuegoleon. Fuegoleon, having become the captain of his own magic knight squad, The Crimson Lion Kings, was determined to solve this issue. He called over his vice captain, Randall Luftair.

"Yes, captain Fuegoleon."

"Randall, I need you to watch over my nephews and make sure they get medical treatment for their wounds. Me and my sister are heading towards the Purple Orcas base to resolve this issue. If we do not return within four hours, assume the worst has happened and notify the wizard king."

"Yes sir." Randall saluted taking Matthew and Leon inside to receive medical treatment.

Meanwhile Fuegoleon and Mereoleona took off with the unconscious magic knights towards the Purple Orcas base.

The Purple Orcas base

Gueldre Poizot, the captain of the Purple Orcas, was discussing things with his vice captain, Kaiser Granvorka, in the main hall of their base. Suddenly the doors were blown open and a group of beaten, charred and tied up purple orcas was thrown at the feet of Gueldre Poizot.

"Gueldre Poizot, we have some business we need to discuss with you." Fuegoleon said as he and Mereoleona marched in the main hall.

"Fuegoleon, I don't believe I have ever seen you this heated before. What seems to be the problem?"

"A group of your magic knights attempted to kidnap my children." Mereoleona said, rage emanating from her.

"What! I can't believe this." Gueldre said as he examined the leader of the group. "Rades Spirito, how could you!? I gave you a chance despite what the other knights had said and this is how you repay me?"

"What do you mean Gueldre?" Fuegoleon asked.

"Rades magic is Soul Corpse magic, he can reanimate the dead to do his bidding. Many of his squadmates have asked for his banishment believing his magic to be cursed. But I gave Rades the benefit of the doubt and a chance to prove himself. It seems I was a fool for doing so."

Suddenly Kaiser gasped as he examined some of the other tied up magic knights revealing they were corpses controlled by Rades.

"My goodness, I am truly appalled and ashamed Rades. You will not only be dismissed from the magic knights you will be imprisoned for your crimes. Kaiser please take this garbage to the jails."

Kaiser nodded as he and some other purple orcas dragged Rades and his live compatriots to the jails.

"I apologise for this Fuegoleon, as his captain I take full responsibility." Gueldre said.

"As long as it doesn't happen again." Fuegoleon replied as he and Mereoleona took their leave.

Later in Gueldre's private quarters.

"Damn that Rades, how hard is it to capture children? Good thing I didn't leave any evidence trailing back to me. Still, those kids would have made me a fortune. It's rare to be able to control all of the basic elements. But now that both Fuegoleon and his sister will be on high alert with those two it's best I leave them be for now. No matter, I'll simply wait until they become magic knights. After all, anything can happen on the field of battle." Gueldre said with a grin.

Authors notes

So I decided to take a different direction with this story from the other stories I'm doing. Now, as for why Mario's and Luigi's clones could you all the basic elements of magic I figured since they were made from Mario's and Luigi's essences and Mario and Luigi could use all elements through power ups I thought it would make sense that their clones would have access to the basic elements. Now as for the Purple Orcas, yes I know Xerx Lugner is the vice captain, but that was after Gueldre was removed from his position. I figured that before then Kaiser was the vice captain since he took Gueldre's spot. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
