It was a couple of days before Christmas when Matt came over to talk to his sister. The two had not spoken since the scene at the park.

"Mac here?" Matt asked Jake.

"Yeah, she's upstairs cleaning Bree's room." Jake told his friend closing the front door.

Matt nodded and went upstairs. He walked down the hall and to Aubree's door. He seen Mac picking up toys and putting them in her toy bin.

"Mac?"

McKenzie turned around and seen her brother.

"Hi, Matt."

"Can we talk?"

The two had never gone this long without talking. McKenzie had tried to call him a few times and Matt never answered. She knew he was pissed and she just left it alone to give him time to cool off.

"Sure." She told him throwing the Princess wand into the bin.

"I'm wanted to apologize for not answering your calls." He said. "I know you called to apologize."

"I did." She nodded.

"I know what you did was out of love." He told her. "You wanted to help."

McKenzie didn't say anything.

"Have you talked to Chel lately?"

"She came by the hospital yesterday and we had coffee on my break." McKenzie told her brother.

"How is she?"

"Ok, I guess." She shrugged. "We haven't really discussed it a lot."

"I haven't had the guts to call her or go by." He said putting his hands in his pockets.

"Matt, you need to talk to her. I know you don't want this to be over." She told her older brother. "Mom and Dad has told me how miserable you've been."

"Well I wanted you to be the first to know."

"Know what?" McKenzie asked with a raised eyebrow.

"This." He said pulled a box out of his pocket.

It was a ring box and McKenzie gasped putting her hand over her mouth.

He opened the box and in it was a 1 carat lotus blooming cut diamond ring.

"It's beautiful, Matthew." McKenzie said taking the ring out to look at it.

"I've done some thinking the last few weeks and I will be the biggest idiot on the planet if I let Chelsea go."

McKenzie smiled.

"Even though I am scared shitless I'm going to propose." Matt smiled. "Hopefully she says yes."

"I don't think its too late." McKenzie told her brother. "She still loves you."

Matt smiled, hugged his sister and kissed the top of her head.

"I'm going to catch her before she leaves work."

He headed out of the room and down the stairs.

"Good luck!"

"I'm going to need it!" He shouted before she heard the door close.

A few seconds later, Jake came up.

"What was that all about?" Jake asked.

"Matt just bought an engagement ring." She told him. "I think he's about to propose."

"Wow." Jake said in disbelief. "I guess what I told him yesterday worked."

"What did you tell him yesterday?" McKenzie asked with a raised eyebrow.

"When you were at work, he came over to help me do some hard work." Jake told her. "He asked me if I've seen Chelsea and I told him that I have and that you girls have gone out a lot lately."

"Good." McKenzie said with a smile. "He needed to know."

"You're something else, Mac." Jake smiled wrapped her in his arms. "But that's another reason I love you."

"You're life would be so dull without me." She said wrapping her arms around his waist.

"I miss Bree." He told his fiancée. "When we going over to mom's to pick her up?"

"She hasn't been gone a day yet." Mac giggled.

"I know but I want to spend as much time with her as possible." He said. "Before I leave again in a few weeks."

"Don't remind me." Mac said.

They headed over to Mary's to pick up Aubree.

"Jake, it's like I'm having a flashback." Mary told him with a smile. "She is just a quiet little thing. Just like you were when you were a child."

"Oh no, what did I get myself into?" Mac joked.

They got Aubree and stopped to get her a Happy Meal. They headed home and Chelsea texted her with a picture of the ring. Mac texted back saying, Congratulations.

"Well Matt and Chelsea are engaged." She told Jake.

"I guess I'm going to be helping Matt move his things back in tomorrow."

Mac nodded.

CHRISTMAS EVE

Mac had put all the presents around the tree and had to tell both Aubree and Jake to stay away from the presents. Jake was trying to show Aubree how to tear a small piece of wrapper from the gift to see what it was.

"I'll hurt you." She told Jake. "Don't teach her that."

"What?" He asked trying to be clueless.

"That's not nice, Bree." McKenzie told her daughter. "You have to wait until in the morning."

"Come on, Mac…one gift."

"No, Jacob."

He huffed like a spoiled child.

They dealt with a cranky toddler for the rest of the day and when they finally got her to sleep, they were exhausted.

"Don't do to sleep, buddy." She said patting his leg.

Jake was sitting beside her and had his eyes closed.

"Why?" He asked. "What's your plans for me?"

"You have help me put together some of her toys."

"That's not exactly what I had in mind." He said opening one of his eyes to look at her.

"That comes later." She told him with a smile. "If you're nice."

"I plan to be naughty." He said.

She just shook her head.
