Jake and McKenzie stayed up into the wee hours of the morning and finally went to bed around 2:30 a.m. Jake had a time putting together the play kitchen set and after many cuss words he finally had it together.
McKenzie woke up to the smell of coffee on her nostrils. She opened her eyes and Jake had the cup close to her nose.
"What time is it?" She asked taking the cup and sitting up.
"6."
"Is Aubree up?"
"No."
"Then why are you?" She asked. "You haven't had but a couple of hours."
"I'm used to it, Mac. I work on a crab boat for a living. We're up for days and then only a few hours of sleep."
"I know but you're off."
"Mistletoe." He smiled holding mistletoe above his head.
"Good morning." He said leaning down to kiss her lips and leaned his forehead against hers. "Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas." She smiled.
They heard their daughter having a limited conversation, probably with Duke.
"Little Harris is up." Mac said getting up.
She went into the bathroom and washed her face as Jake went to get their daughter. They took her downstairs and Duke followed.
"Ready to open presents, peanut?" Jake asked.
She clapped her hands.
Mac got the camera as Jake sat down in front of the tree with his daughter. They recorded video and took lots of pictures of the little girl opening her presents. The last present they showed her was in the kitchen in the corner. It was her kitchen play set and she liked it the most.
"Now you can cook like Mommy does." Mac told her.
Jake had bought Mac a 14K white gold diamond infinity necklace for Christmas. Jake wanted clothes so Mac got him a couple of pairs of jeans, shirts and shoes.
"Please don't wear these crab fishing." She told Jake. "You'll ruin them."
He gave her a smirk.
They all bathed, changed and headed to Mary's house. Then after they were heading to Mark's.
NEW YEARS EVE
Missy and Jim agreed to keep Aubree for the night so McKenzie and Jake could go out for New Years. This would be the last time they could go out and have a good time before Jake headed back to Dutch for opilio season.
Mac changed into a off white off shoulder tunic shirt, boot cut blue jeans, and off white bootie heels. She curled her hair and left it down and applied her makeup. Jake changed into his a pair of new jeans, his new white sneakers, a baby blue and navy blue plaid shirt. He was also clean-shaven.
They got into his BMW and headed over to Matt's New Years Eve party. A few hours later and several drinks, in walked Will Sanderson walked in with a date.
McKenzie rolled her eyes. Will Sanderson was bad news from way back. He went straight over to where Jake was. McKenzie didn't like it one bit.
"I thought he moved to Oregon."
"Who?" Josh's girlfriend, Annabel asked.
"Will Sanderson."
Josh looked over to his brother and by the look on his face he wasn't happy.
Will was known to use a bit.
It was now getting close to midnight and McKenzie helped Chelsea pour glasses of champagne. Josh and Annabel had left to head over to one of her friend's parties half an hour ago.
Matt muted the music and turned the t.v. on as they were beginning to countdown to midnight. Mac and Chelsea passed out everyone's champagne and met up with their fiance's.
"Hey, Mac….it's been awhile." Will said with a smile.
"Yeah." Mac said being short.

2012!
Jake leaned down and kissed Mac.
"Happy New Years." He smiled kissing her forehead.
Sometime wasn't right.
After it was officially 1/1/12, the t.v. got cut off and the music got cut back on.
McKenzie went outside to smoke with Amber.
"So, how's it going with Blake?"
Amber has dated a guy named Blake for a few weeks.
"He's nice." She said. "So much more different from the assholes I'm used to."
Mac laughed.
Everyone had a good time and their friends wished Jake good luck with fishing.
They went back to the house and Mac went straight up to their room and into the bathroom. She was taking her jewelry off when Jake came in.
"What's wrong, Mac?"
"Nothing." She replied.
"You've been acting different since midnight."
"What were you and Will talking about?" She asked turning around to look at him.
"We were catching up." Jake said. "Haven't seen him in about a year."
"Jake, he uses."
"Mac." He said with a sigh.
He leaned against the counter and pulled her to him.
"I've been clear for over a year."
"I know." He said. "I just don't want…"
"I'm not." He said placing a kiss on her forehead.
She nodded against his lips.
2 DAYS LATER
Mac came home from work after picking up Aubree and going to the grocery store to see a pick up she didn't recognize.
She pulled up in the garage, got out her daughter and went inside.
"Jake, I need help with the groceries." She said walking from the kitchen to the livingroom.
She stopped when she seen Will sitting on her couch. She put Aubree down and just stared.
"Hi, Mac." Will smiled.
"Jake, I need help."
"Well I'm going to head off, dude." Will told Jake. "It was nice seeing you two again."
Aubree sat down on the floor with her toys and were Duke was. Jake followed Mac out to the garage.
"What's he doing here?"
"He came by to drink a few beers before I left."
McKenzie huffed.
Jake and McKenzie got the groceries and went into the kitchen. A few minutes later, she noticed Jake was acting unusual.
"Jake?"
"Huh?" He asked cutting the can food in the cabinet.
"Look at me."
He turned to look at her and she seen his eyes were a little glassy and low.
"Are you high?"
"No." He told her. "I've been drinking. McKenzie, don't get crazy."
"And you're acting weird!"
"Damn it, Mac." He yelled slamming the cabinet. "You're paranoid!"
"And you're a liar!"
Aubree started to cry in the living room.
"Why are you doing this, Jake?" She asked. "Why now?"
"I've told you I'm not doing anything."
"Whatever, Jake." Mac said walking out of the kitchen.
Her daughter was on the floor crying and Duke had his head in her lap trying to comfort her.
"It's ok, baby." She said picking up the little girl.
"You know what?" Jake said coming into the living room. "I'm tired of you always telling me what I need to do and what I don't need to do."
"So, I'm bossy now?"
"Yep."
"After all of what we've been through since I've been back, you're willing to through it all down the drain?" She asked. "Again?"
"Mac, it's always about you, you know." He said with a sigh. "I've got other shit to deal with besides you."
His words cut her deep. She simply nodded and took her daughter upstairs.
"You know, Mac….if I'm such a bad fucking guy then you should've stayed with the asshole, Zach!"
She didn't bother to reply as she walked up the stairs. She knew that Jake had been down since coming back from the king crab season. He loved all the guys on the Northwestern and Sig but it was the Cornelia Marie. It just wasn't the same but he didn't have to go down the road he was now starting to take.
She bathed her daughter and once her daughter was asleep in her and Jake's bed. She took a shower and climbed into bed. She heard Jake leaving as she was giving her daughter a bath. They both just needed some time to cool off.
