Reversed Brides
A requested spin-off of Two Mortal Brides. In another time during Mortal Kombat the damaged families of the past are revived with less complicated circumstances but how different will the end be? Will the heirs of legends be successful?
Chapter 1: Spark of interest
"We avoid risks in life only to die, and end up facing the greatest risk which is having lived life risking nothing at all."
― Chinonye J. Chidolue
"Where have you been?"
It was close to sundown when a skinny over-dressed girl came stomping up the walkway to a sloping hut towards the edge of the village. Frowning she looked up at the so-called authority figure that had demanded to know where she was.
"I was out, Rashid."
"You were gone all day, and you didn't say anything this morning when you left..."
"I'm a grown woman I can do whatever I want."
"If that was true, we wouldn't have to live together, and we'd be on our own, Madelyn..."
Standing out on their front porch were Rashid and Madelyn, as similar as the two might have looked they were opposites and three years apart in age. They lived together in a remote village of refugees that were from all over the realms. This was the only village in Earth realm allowed to have outside inhabitants; literally named "Outsider village."
"Listen, I just got back can we talk about this later?" Madelyn sighed before going into the house and moving past her sister.
Frowning but not pushing the matter further, Rashid nodded and went back into the house, closing the door behind her.
They dropped the subject of Madelyn's disappearance, but the evening was just getting started. From there they started arguing about the stupidest things. From there not being enough food in the ice box to whose turn it was to collect firewood. These arguments were nothing new, but they'd been happening more frequently lately.
"Madelyn, come on it's not that big of a deal; can you just go get the wood already?"
Rashid sighed heavily as her stubborn sister sat down in a kitchen chair and crossed her arms defiantly. "What is your freaking problem?"
Madelyn's dark brown almost black eyes burned holes into her sister's lighter brown colored eyes. Regardless of the circumstances Madelyn was a pretty girl with a clear face, and dark black hair that ran down her back with a naturally curved figure. She could eat as much as she wanted and never gain weight. She could pull off any outfit; even if it was a potato sack it'd be the newest trend. However, given her attitude it was something even the cleric of Chaos, Havik wouldn't find attractive, and the Chaos realm was known for being weird.
"I just want to be left alone; why is that so hard for you to understand?!" Madelyn stuck out her lip and felt tears from her eyes threatening to spill over. "I don't want to get the stupid wood! I rather freeze than be with your fat ass!"
"Okay now you're just being rude." Rashid almost wanted to laugh at her sister's stupid remark.
Rashid was slightly shorter than Madelyn and wasn't as thin or curved. She couldn't eat whatever and whenever, her black hair wasn't as long as her sister's and her left eye was partially covered by a bang that draped down the side of her face. Rashid's face wasn't as clear either as she had a few acne scars and another scar by her right eye. Overall, she was rough around the edges.
Madelyn and Rashid continued to stare at each other until Rashid finally broke away from her stare. "Forget it you brat; I'll get it myself but I'm not making you dinner."
Madelyn got up from her seat and stomped to her room. "I don't care you can't cook anyways!"
"If I was a cannibal, I'd eat your miserable ass!" Rashid walked out of the house and slammed the door, earning a few concerned glances from passing strangers.
"That didn't sound right." Sighing heavily, she walked towards the woods but stopped short.
"Screw this I'm going to get something to eat; I'll let her freeze."
Rashid walked the village roads towards the market where several citizens were rushing to get their last-minute evening shopping done. After finding a food stand and paying the wage Rashid continued to walk the roads; not wanting to return home.
"I wish we could be the way we used to; all we do is fight now." Rashid folded her arms to her chest and thought about the last few weeks with her sister. "Maybe I should be nicer?"
She lost her train of thought when she heard a meow come from above her. Looking up Rashid saw a striped cat perched on a roof.
"What are you doing up there?"
The cat meowed once more staring at her before reaching out a paw. Looking around Rashid jumped on a nearby wooden crate and tried to reach the feline.
"Try to jump down..." Rashid grunted trying to reach the cat but the closer she got the further he pulled back. "Are you kidding me?"
She climbed another crate and clumsily jumped off trying to climb on the roof. "All this trouble for a cat; I swear if you..." As soon as she could say what was on her mind the cat jumped from the roof and ran down the road leaving Rashid hanging on the edge of a house about ten feet from the ground.
"I freaking knew it..."
Not knowing what to do next Rashid clung to the edge of a roof with a fading grip. She contemplated silently as to take her chances jumping back on the crate or fall straight down possibly spraining her already bad ankles. Thunder rang out in the night air as she considered her options.
"Great now it's going to start raining soon..." Feeling her hands slipping Rashid shut her eyes and let go of the side of the roof.
However, instead of falling on the ground she felt herself collide with something or someone. Just as she was opening her eyes Rashid tumbled on the ground after rolling off a larger form covered in white. For a minute no one moved or said anything not until the large figure sat up and looked directly at her.
The glowing white eyes, harvester hat, and the blue/white robes... This wasn't happening.
"Did I just fall on the thunder god?" Rashid didn't know whether to be afraid or in awe. That was until the thunder god got up and started dusting himself off while frowning at her; then she decided she was afraid.
"Uh... listen man I'm sorry I didn't mean to fall on you. Actually, I didn't even know you were here..."
Rashid felt herself turn red; this dude was big and looked like he didn't take excuses. Then here she was puny and out of shape and feeling very insignificant.
"You're not mad right Lord Raiden...?" She wrung her hands nervously because this guy wasn't talking. The thunder god continued to look down at Rashid until he looked down at her hands. She was clearly nervous and he knew him glaring at her wasn't helping the situation.
"No, I'm not angry." He finally spoke and crossed his arms. "You're oblivious but I'm not going to hold it against you."
Breathing a sigh of relief, the mortal finally got color to her face. "Thank you, lord Raiden."
Shaking his head, he turned from her. "Thanks, isn't necessary; you half the attention span of a fish so it was expected."
"Oh, wait excuse me?" Rashid stared at the back of lord Raiden. "Did you just insult me?"
Raiden shook his head and started walking. "Take it as you will but I have been watching you for the past hour and you have yet to notice that you're watch is missing and you have a piece of shrimp stuck to your face."
Rashid touched her face and realized that Raiden was telling the truth; and staring down at her right wrist she saw a pale stripe where her watch usually was.
Sighing Rashid looked up at the thunder god, "You saw me get robbed and didn't say anything?"
Raiden silently held up a lavender colored watch and couldn't help but feel pleased seeing the look of shock on the mortal's face. "I wouldn't say that."
Handing back the watch to Rashid she looked up at him. "You know I heard you were a serious god but here you are screwing with me; am I missing something here?"
Raiden's eyes darkened somewhat, making Rashid regret her question. "Not to say I mind, but people say things you know?"
Turning away Raiden walked down the village road; it was nearly empty now and the only real noise was the sound of summer crickets chirping.
"If you had the day I did you would probably find something to distract you also."
Rashid went after him, "How bad can it be for a god?"
"Faced with enemies from every realm and losing those closest to you I'd say pretty bad." Raiden stopped at the edge of a dock and crossed his arms staring at the moon.
Rashid looked down feeling awful; of course, he felt threatened a powerful guy like him?
"Well, I'm sorry if I made you upset. I've never talked to deity before. I just thought you were a stick in the mud that's all."
Sighing Raiden nodded; it wasn't often he spoke to a mortal so simply. Usually, he was always on the run fighting someone for everybody, but to have a moment like this was new.
"Well, since we got that out the way I think we need to discuss the real reason I'm here."
Rashid looked at the thunder god with curiosity. "Oh, don't tell me; I'm the chosen one?" She snorted and laughed at her dumb joke but slowly stopped when she looked at Raiden and realized the neutral expression on his face.
"Wait..." Rashid blinked multiple times. "Please tell me you're joking?"
Raiden shook his head. "I have seen visions of destruction in the future; it only seems fitting that I have a child to take my place if I happen to meet my demise."
"That's depressing to think about, Raiden." Rashid cocked an eyebrow at her possible future companion.
"It may be, but it's not a chance I'm willing to take." Raiden frowned looking back at the moon.
"Well besides that; why me?" Raiden looked at the mortal woman in front of him. True she wasn't in the best shape as his warrior allies and Rashid seemed as clueless as a frog in a henhouse but there was something different about their meeting.
Believe it or not he'd tried the watch trick a few times that week hoping to find someone that was interested in speaking to him. Mostly all he got were women who gave him awkward smiles and quick jogs back to their home, and one called him a pervert.
Raiden cleared his thoughts and once more looked at his choice of companion. Slowly he took a finger and moved the hair that partially covered Rashid's left eye.
"Would you believe me if I said we just seem to have a connection?"
It was quiet at first but Rashid gave him a crooked smile. "You are coming off as a real cornball."
Raiden chuckled before smiling to himself, "Was that a yes then?"
"Was I sweating when I fell on you?" Raiden's eyes widened remembering their collision.
"Yes."
Smiling but turning an embarrassed red Rashid quickly wrapped her arms around the thunder god. "Then yes."
Hugging her back relieved that he no longer had to try the watch trick, Raiden suggested he walk Rashid back home since it was late. The plan was originally that Raiden was going to start courting and seeing Rashid every day; or that's what he had planned.
However, when they got to her home, they found it dark and empty. The only thing that stood out besides not seeing Magdalyn in her room sulking was a letter that Rashid's sister had written.
Rashid,
I'm sorry for the past few days that we've been arguing. I've met someone and didn't want to be apart from them any longer. He's real nice to me and thinks we can make a future together. I'm moving away with him tonight.
Please don't look for me; I want to stay with him.
Magdalyn
Rashid read and re-read the letter in her hands. Her sister had up and left without any more explanation of who this guy was or when they had met. She didn't know how to feel except empty and confused.
Raiden looked at the letter also; he couldn't help but feel that Magdalyn's leaving was strange. However, given the circumstances of the siblings arguing he considered this disappearance planned if not manipulative.
"What do I do now...?" Rashid looked around the house and then at the letter in her hands.
Raiden put a hand on her shoulder carefully. "I wasn't planning on asking this; not so soon but given the circumstances I don't like the idea of you being here alone."
Raiden looked at the letter once more. 'Why didn't Magdalyn put her lovers name?'
Regardless, the whole situation seemed off and Raiden knew better than to leave Rashid in the house; especially if this guy turned out to be unsafe.
"Why don't you come home with me?" Rashid looked at Raiden nervously.
"You'd be okay with that; so soon?" Shrugging Raiden looked around the empty home.
"What kind of protector would I be otherwise?"
It was settled at that point and Rashid packed what she needed as well as any family heirlooms and they left the house at midnight with Raiden the Thunder god; hoping and praying that what was happening wasn't a dream.
Here is the first chapter of the spin-off. I hope to make this one not as depressing as the last few. I do not own Mortal Kombat, or the shrimp on Rashid's face. Magdalyn and Rashid are my oc's Please R&R
