Max Goof just sighed. He was sitting on a wooden bench, but he wasn't alone. He was watching his six godchildren happily playing in the playground that belonged to a grand, five-star hotel called McDuck Hotel. It was on the edge of the beautiful Lake Superior in Pukaskwa National Park. He was looking after his godchildren for a little bit because their parents, who were also his very best friends, were very busy making sure they had everything ready for the upcoming very busy week. In seven days, there was a wedding going to take place in the hotel and the days before that there was a bachelor party for the men and the bachelorette party for the women. The wedding was for Max's father Goofy and his girlfriend Sylvia Marpole.

Unlike everybody else, Max was the only one who wasn't feeling happy or excited about it. It wasn't because his dad was getting married and he was getting a new stepmother. He had lived all his twenty-three years without a mother, thought he did view his former neighbour Peg as the closest thing he ever had to a mother figure and he still did, and he was old enough to not need one, but he did like Sylvia and they got on with each other and he was happy that she and Goofy made each other happy together. And it wasn't because the hotel was lame, which it wasn't. In fact, he found it awesome. After all, it was massive, beautiful and grand. He liked his big room all to himself, the food the hotel served was very delicious, he liked the massive gym and the massive outdoor swimming pool. What else could one want from a five-star hotel?

McDuck Hotel had only been opened for a month now and the reason that Goofy and Sylvia could have their wedding there was because the owner, Scrooge McDuck, owed Goofy a favor. Scrooge, Huey, Dewey, Louie Duck, Webby Vanderquack and Launchpad got into a race for hidden treasure somewhere in the Duckberg Forest with the Beagle Boys being their competitors. After Scrooge and co found the hidden treasure, the Beagle Boys found them, trapped them and left with the treasure. But the Beagle Boys lost because Goofy was passing by in the forest and he tripped over a rock and he collapsed on the Beagle Boys, making them lose the treasure. Scrooge and co who managed to escape the Beagle Boys' traps managed to arrive and take the treasure. Scrooge was so grateful to Goofy that when he asked what he wanted and Goofy told him that he was getting married and was trying to find a place for the wedding to take place, Scrooge offered to have the wedding at his new hotel and for everyone who would attend and everything that was needed for wedding at half price.

The real reason Max was very sad because he didn't have a girlfriend with him. It was no less than a month since his last girlfriend Mona cheated on him. And though he was very pleased that his best friends were invited to this wedding and they came, seeing them with their partners and their children made him feel very jealous. PJ came with his beret girlfriend Lucy and their twin children Patrick and Patricia. Stacey came with her old boyfriend Bobby and her African-American girlfriend Lauren. These three had a complicated relationship. Stacey, who was bisexual, couldn't choose between Bobby, who was straight, and Lauren, who was a lesbian. One night, after a night celebrating the success of Stacey's hotel getting a hotel award, all three of them, who were very drunk, had a threesome and Bobby managed to get both Stacey and Lauren pregnant that night and they both managed to get give birth to two beautiful girls. Stacey gave birth to a beautiful girl called Sabrina and Lauren gave birth to a beautiful girl called Regina. Though Stacey and Lauren were living together in a house, they were very close to Bobby and he did his bit for the kids as their father.

There was also Max's second high school girlfriend Lisa, who he still remained good friends with after they left for different colleges, with her twin children, Bennie and Alicia. Max was their godfather too. Lisa had brought her boyfriend Jacob with her, but he wasn't her children's father. He was her latest boyfriend after her children got born. But both Jacob and Lisa's children all liked each other and they all liked Max and Jacob thought Max was a great godfather to the kids and Max thought that Jacob was a good stepdad to them and Max and Jacob agreed that Lisa was a wonderful mother.

What also didn't help Max, even though he knew deep down it wasn't their fault, was that most of Goofy's friends brought their partners with them. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse had been invited, so had Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow and even Mickey's dog Pluto and Minnie's pets Fifi and Figaro had been invited. Pete brought his latest girlfriend Claire, his ex-wife Peg brought her new boyfriend Derek and even their teenage daughter Pistol brought her punk boyfriend Smokin' Hot from high school with her. Despite both being invited, Pete and Peg managed to avoid each other as much as they could because neither of them could even look each other in the eye let alone talk to each other after their most painful divorce.

There were some single ones who came that didn't have a partner and that included the owner of the hotel Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, Launchpad McQuack, Mrs. Beakley and her granddaughter Webby Vanderquck and Donald's friends Jose Carioca and Panchito Pistoles. Max knew that deep down he wasn't the only one that was single, but that still didn't make him feel better about it.

Another thing that made Max very sad was that one of his friends, who was also his first high school girlfriend, who couldn't come to his dad's wedding at all was Roxanne. He assumed that because she was probably still living in Anchorage, Alaska, where she and her dad moved to there during the middle of the eleventh grade. If that was true, he understood why she couldn't come, but he still missed her all the same. The last contact from her was a letter to let him know that she had arrived in Anchorage safe and sound and how much she missed him as much as he missed her.

Max didn't mind watching his godchildren play in the playground while their parents had to do their important stuff. He thought it would take his mind off Mona and the unforgiveable thing she did to him. He never thought if he ever wanted children, but he did like spending time with his godchildren and they liked being with him in return. He bonded with them in his own way and he was still touched to this day that all his best friends asked him to be the godfather of their children.

"Hi, Max."

Max slowly turned to see who it was that greeted him. "Hi, Debbie." He had been a long time since he saw his very beautiful cousin Debbie, who was wearing an orange sports bra, tight denim shorts, short white socks and white trainers. "How are you doing?"

"Great. All right if I join you?"

"Sure, go ahead. You're not missing out on much. I'm just watching my godchildren." Max moved further on the bench to give his cousin more room to sit next to him.

"Wow, you must be a very popular godfather," Debbie said, as she sat next to him.

"Thanks," Max said. "I'm just doing my very best for them. So, how are your parents doing?"

"They're doing great. They're still on their South Africa safari trip, so they couldn't come to this wedding. I apologize on their behalf."

"That's fine. I hope they're having a good time. Do you like your hotel room?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Does Toby like it?"

"No."

"What doesn't he like about it?"

"He doesn't even know what it's like because he didn't come," Debbie replied. "Not because he couldn't, but because he chose not to."

"Because he doesn't like weddings?"

"No, because he cheated on me."

Max gasped. "What? He cheated on you? A beautiful and nice lady such as yourself? No way!"

"Seriously, it's true, Max. He cheated on me a month ago. And I still don't know what I did wrong to him or why he wanted to cheat on me." Then she started to break down into tears.

Max hugged her. "I'm so sorry, Debbie."

"Is everything okay, Uncle Max?"

Max and Debbie looked to see Lisa's daughter Alicia approaching them. Debbie quickly dried her tears.

"Is something upsetting your friend?"

"Oh, no, Alicia," Max said. "We're just rehearsing for a show."

"Rehearsing?"

"Yeah. It's practicing your lines and moves so you'll be perfect in a show just like how you, Benny and your friends do for your shows when you do them in kindergarten."

"Oh, I see," Alicia said.

"Don't worry, Alicia," Debbie said. "Everything's fine. Honest."

"Just go back and play with your brother and your friends," Max said.

"Okay." Then Alicia left.

"She seems a sweet kid," Debbie said to Max.

"Oh, yeah, she definitely is, Debbie," Max said. He liked all his godchildren and he knew they all had good qualities and flaws like everyone, but if he had to pick one to be his favourite, he thought it would be Alicia because, despite being very shy, she was a very nice and compassionate girl.

Soon the parents returned to pick their kids up and thanked Max for looking after them when they were busy. "No problem," he kept saying to them as they took their children away.

Then Max returned to his cousin. "I'm so sorry about what Toby did to you, Debbie," he said. "I know how you feel."

"You do?" Debbie was shocked to hear about that. "You mean Mona cheated on you too?"

"Yeah, she did. And a month ago too. And I don't know why."

"Well, I'm so sorry that happened to you too, Max," Debbie said.

"Thanks. If you want to talk more about it, shall we head to the hot tub?"

"Okay. I'll meet you there."
