Rex sat me down between the Joker and Poison Ivy. He sat opposite the Joker and Harley Quinn sat between the two of them.
Dear Jegus please let me get out of this alive…
"Hope ya like turkey!" Harley plopped a large, browned meal in front of us. "Now no food fights, Rex! Not with your pretty girly friend ova!"
Oh dear god. Please tell me they did NOT think that I was his…
"Hey pops," Rex ignored Harley. "So what kinda chemicals you think could make a girl look like this?" He jerked a thumb at me.
I immediately looked down at the empty, ceramic plate. Why did they have to talk about me?
"Hell if I know." The Joker shrugged. "Probably something experimental." He smiled on the word.
"Puddin', cut the turkey!" Harley squealed, not noticing the exchange at all.
The Joker grumbled but stood and began to slice. Rex held out his plate before his 'pop' could even get the knife half way through. Ivy rolled her eyes.
"So Harmony," Ivy turned to me. "Where do you go to school? We could drop you off in the morning."
"I-I'm homeschooled. I haven't been to a public school in almost a year." I thought about my friends and what they would think if they saw me. We had chatted over skype in group calls, but had never done a video call.
"What happened to you to make you like this?" She motioned to my body.
I shrank a little, trying to curl inside of myself. "There was an accident. A truck dumped its chemical load all over me and the bike rack. The paint on the bike rack peeled off…"
"Aunt Ivy," Rex frowned. "She doesn't like to talk about it."
I had only talked about it with him once and he already gleaned that. Smart guy. Smarter than he acted, anyway.
The Joker put a half slice of turkey on my plate. "Anything weird about you? Besides the obvious, I mean."
"Pops!" Rex hissed.
"Don't be so sensitive." The Joker frowned. "I doubt she's that concerned."
"Weird?" I looked at the slice of turkey. I felt like I was going to cry.
"Something like this!"
He moved quickly. I didn't care much. There was a nudge on my hand and I thought Ivy was patting it for a second.
In all actuality, the Joker was stabbing at it with the carving knife. He might as well have been poking my hand with a stick for all the good it was doing him.
"Pops!" Rex was in shock. "What the fuck?! I bring one friend over for dinner and you try to stab her!"
The Joker stopped. "Maybe the knife is dull."
"Dammit, let's go Harmony." He muttered and left the room.
Ivy caught my arm as I stood. "Do not think this is normal. He has never acted like this before. He loves his parents more than life itself. Be careful."
His 'Aunt Ivy' was warning me? She should have been trying to KILL me.
If she could. I wondered just how far my impervious skin would go.
I left the room. Harley was screaming at the Joker. How dare he stab that nice girl and how DARE he drive her baby boy away and who was gonna eat all this food now, it wasn't like you can just kill for a turkey on a daily basis this was supposed to be special.
I suspected Ivy wanted to follow my out of the room rather than listen to the love birds quarrel, but she was stuck.
I followed after Rex, thinking him safer than the one who tried to stab me. Rex was at least upset by the fact that his dad had tried to hurt me as an experiment.
"Want to go to Taco Bell?" He asked when we were outside.
"Er, sure." I nodded. "Taco Hell sounds… Normal?"
"Great! I know an awesome shortcut to get there!" He snatched up my hand and started running in a direction completely opposite to the nearest Taco Bell.
