Rather than going back to Rex's house, I just went home. I used the key under the rock and let myself in. I flopped on my bed and immediately passed out.
I got up and took a shower in my own bathroom for the first time in many months.
Dad and Wally were awake downstairs. Pancakes were waiting for me.
"We weren't sure if you were coming home." Dad said quietly. He had obviously been up late waiting for me.
Wally looked upset with me, but relieved that I was home.
"I wasn't sure either." I admitted.
"Eat." Wally ordered.
I sat down obediently and wolfed down the pancakes. They were wonderful, like all of Dad's food was.
"Where did you go?" Dad asked.
"Watched you throw a car on the news." Wally muttered.
"Wally, hush." Dad shushed him.
I turned red. I was on the news?
"They don't know who you are." Dad assured me. "So? Spill the gossip?"
"I, um, went to the Iceburg Lounge with Rex… and I met, um, Oswald Cobblepot." I said.
"That guy with like a gazillion dollars? The almost-Bruce-Wayne-rich-but-not-quite?" Dad was in awe. "To have that kind of money!"
I smiled. "He was, um," I frowned. "Very hospitable."
"He didn't try anything on you, did he? Creepy old man!" Dad was playing up the drama to ease the tension. His man was not happy with me.
"No, no!" I said quickly. "He just isn't particularly kind to his workers is all…"
"Well, of course! How can you get good workers these days!" Dad said loudly, sarcastically.
"Um, yeah. Oh, I, uh, I have a date."
Dad turned pale. "With…"
"Not with Rex!" I shook my head.
Some color returned to his cheeks. "Then with whom, honey?"
"Batman's sidekick." I mumbled.
"Robin?" Wally's eyes bugged. "Straight girls have all the good ones!"
"Good for you!" Dad cheered. "Did he tell you his secret identity?"
"No." I laughed. "No, he didn't."
"Not yet." Wally interjected. "You have to tell me when you find out!"
"Me too!"
"There will be no telling of secret identities!" I scowled. "You wanna be killed by someone who's after Batman?"
"Aw, poopy." Dad frowned.
There was a pounding on the door.
"I'll get it. You two gossip like women until I get back." I stood and went for the door.
I could hear them talking. They were concerned. Was Robin a good man? They didn't know. Was it a trap? They didn't want me hurt.
I opened the door. A black and red bullet shot into the house screaming about her baby girl. Joker and Rex stood there with more patience. Huh, the Joker, with patience.
"She was worried when you didn't come home last night." Rex supplied the answer to the unasked question.
"My place was closer. Harley!" I shouted. "I'm over here!"
"My baby!" She streaked into my arms. "I was so worried about you!"
"By the way, Mom adopted you." Rex tousled my hair.
"Great." I muttered. "Um, I'm having breakfast with my dads, can this wait?"
"Breakfast?" Rex's eyes lit up.
"Rex, that you…" Dad came to greet him but stopped dead in his tracks.
"My little minx was worried about dear Harm. Seeing as how she's a member of the family now," Joker smiled widely. "We just had to check up on her."
Dad looked like he was going to faint. "J-Join us for breakfast?"
"Delighted to, but some other time. Harley and I have to do a little shopping." Joker pulled Harley away from me. I almost suggested he get a crowbar, because the woman was not moving much.
"You call us next time!" Harley pointed a finger in my face. "I was up all night, worried sick!"
"Um, sorry." I wrapped my arms around myself.
"I think I'm gonna skip this breakfast too, but thanks for the offer." Rex waved a hand. "I'm going to go cause a little mayhem. Harm, if you wanna join, I'll be heading to the bank around like noon. Ish."
"Don't I have a bunch of my boys heading to the bank?" Joker wondered as they closed the door.
It got quiet.
Wally peaked in, then caught Dad as he fainted.
That… was gonna take some explaining…
I quickly grabbed my scarf and ran out the door, shouting a quick 'I love you' at Wally and my unconscious father. I didn't want to explain something I didn't even understand.
