"Shit, Harmony!" The door slammed against the wall, Rex opened it so hard. "Sorry, Kit-Cat, Harmony! I didn't mean it!"

"Go fall in a hole, Rex." I was pissed.

"Wait, c'mon, wait!"

"No! You do not know me well enough to talk about my life like that! I don't care whether Batman can put out, okay? And you're right, I'm not dating Batman or Robin! But you still don't need to know who I'm dating!" I tried to keep my voice down.

"Okay! Okay!" He held up his hands. "I'm sorry, okay!"

I took a deep breath. "Whatever, Rex."

"I don't ever apologize, but I am sorry, Harm." He said it. Though his grin was still wide, not like he could ever close it, he didn't look like he was smiling. He actually meant the apology.

"You better be. Rude." I crossed my arms. "I'm mad."

"I know." His eyes were on his shoes. "Hey, wanna go somewhere?"

"Where. Where would I want to go with you right now." I gave him a dirty look.

"Someplace you can go to take out your aggression."

"To the Penguin's place?" I muttered.

"Huh? Well, no. I mean we can go there. But that wasn't what I had in mind."

"Where, then?"

He was smiling again.

The place was in a basement of a warehouse, deep underground. I could hear cheering before we got there.

"Where is this?" My hands traced along the cement wall while we walked.

"Fight Club."

"Now who's giving mysterious answers."

"Hey Rex!" A guy called him over. "You goin' in the ring?"

"Not me this time. This one." He shoved me forward.

"What?" I gasped. "Me, fight?!"

"Sure! You're indestructible!" He was chipper.

"Yeah, but I don't know how to fight!"

"Easy, you just hit the other guy until he stops getting up." Rex continued nudging me towards the man with the clipboard.

"Rex, this is a bad idea…" I winced.

"You goin' in the ring?" He looked at me. "You get hurt, there ain't no insurance to cover you. You're done. An' ain't no rule sayin' the other guy can't kill you."

Shit, that was death. He was way to cavalier about death.

"She's in." Rex answered for me.

"Rex!" I spun around and looked up at him. "Have you lost it?! I can't fight!"

"But you can't be hurt." He pointed out.

"That doesn't mean anything!"

"You'll be fine!"

"I have another date tonight and if you get me killed so help me Jegus I will haunt you in the afterlife!" I threatened him.

"You'll be fine." He assured me again. "And when you're done, I will buy you a new scarf."

I took off my scarf and handed it to him. "You keep this safe, okay?"

He nodded and waved at me.

I was led to the ring. A small audience roared when they saw me. Who was this little girl? I looked at the betting board. Everyone was betting against me except for a small handful of people who thought I might surprise them.

Then my opponent walked out. My heart sank into my stomach and I felt ill. The guy was massive, jacked up on all kinds of shit.

A bell dinged. The guy charged at me.

I was knocked into the arena wall, but I barely felt anything. It felt like I had accidentally backed up into it, rather than I had been thrown into it by a monster who was threatening me in Spanish.

"Hit him!" Rex cheered me on from above in the bleachers. "You got this!"

Yeah, I got this. I was gonna throw you into the damn ring, see how you like it.

I remembered how mad I was, but it wasn't enough to make me start throwing punches. The guy charged me again. I ducked when he got close and he flipped over me, landing hard against the ground. Ouch. I might not have felt it, but he sure did.

When he got back up, it occurred to me that the sooner he was unconscious, the sooner I could leave. He charged at me one more time, thinking it would work. So I did the same and threw a shitty punch at his stomach. All that momentum and he came to a dead stop. He fell to the side, puked up fish tacos. He didn't get up. I couldn't tell if he was actually unconscious or just stunned.

The cheering stopped. Someone came out to check on him.

"B-Bane is down."

A count: three, two, one, knockout. I won.

Bane? That was Bane?

Man, I really needed to watch the news more. I should have known who all of these people were, but I just didn't.

Rex came to get me. He was carrying a backpack. He handed me my scarf and then threw me over his shoulder as he carried me out.

"Hey, Rex!" The guy with the clipboard called out. "Next time you bring in a tank, lemme know, okay? I would have bet more money on her!"

"Money?" I looked down at the backpack.

"Yup." Rex nodded.

"Was this all just so you could bet on me?"

"Nah. Just an added bonus." He laughed. "You act like I plan things out."

Right. It was Rex I was talking to. Plans were not his forte.
