Tampa, Florida

July 13, 1996

It's a well-known fact that Florida can be notorious for its sweltering temperatures. Especially, during the summer months. But this summer in particular is definitely going to be one for the record.

For the past couple weeks now, the temperature has been fluctuating between a low of 97degrees to a scorching 107degrees around central and southern Florida. While some didn't mind the sweltering heat, many others were alternating being inside in the air conditioning and the beach front or pools.

Six-year-old Aurora Bianchini zig zagged around her bedroom collecting all the fun things she wanted to take to the beach with her that day. It was currently 8:45a.m. and the temperature was already up to 95degrees. The weatherman had just stated on the morning news that it was going to reach another all-time high today of 104degrees by early-midafternoon.

"C'mon! You ready yet!?" Shouted the excited child to her parents in the other room.

Both adults chuckled at the little girl's never-ending enthusiasm. Their daughter always been like that since day one and it never ceases to amuse them.

"Easy there, Firecracker. Mommy is almost done applying her sunblock. Then we can hit the road." Her father said.

Normally, Rick Bianchini and his wife Amy didn't usually take off work in the middle of the week. But the heat was really getting to them, and both decided they needed this break. So, they let their daughter skip day camp for the day in favor of doing a family day at the beach.

His superiors at the Tampa Police Dept. weren't too thrilled about his last-minute plans. Especially, now when they were dealing with some major gang related issues right now on the other end of town.

Not only that, but there has also been a string of brutal slayings that have been going on for the last month now. The few mutilated bodies they could identify consisted of some gang members and other unsavory characters with extensive criminal records. Many were led to believe it was some new unknown gang that came to town. Others believe it was some psycho vigilante out to do some personal justice.

Whatever the case, the young policeman still decided to put everything on hold to spend some free time with his wife and daughter. The same little girl who was getting antsy while waiting for her mom to finish up with her sunblock.

As the next few minutes passed, Aurora grew bored of waiting. She went and plopped down onto the couch, grabbed the remote and flipped on the t.v.

~This just in, another gruesome discovery was made in the early hours of the morning at an abandoned warehouse in the northwest section of Tampa. A string of rapid gunfire was heard coming from the warehouse. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a very disturbing sight of what appeared to be the bodies of seven men hanging by their ankles from the interior rafters of the building. According to sources, the bodies were severely mutilated with their skin completely removed from their bod.."

The t.v. clicked off and Aurora turned to see the remote in her father's hand. A concerned look decorated his face.

"Let's go, Sweetheart. Don't want you listening to such horrible things." He said.

Her mother came over moments later, with one of the beach bags in hand. She spotted her daughter and have her a warm smile.

"Ready to soak up some waves and the sun, Lady Bug?" She asks.

Aurora nodded her head in excitement. She grabbed her own little beach bag and ran to the front door. While her parents lagged close behind. Afterwards, they locked up the door behind them.

Despite it being a workday, they knew parking was going to be hell and that was if they could even find a spot. So, they decided to walk the few blocks to the nearest beach instead.

"Good thing we're still in relatively good shape to make the walk in this heat. Otherwise, I'd be sticking it to you the whole way there." Amy joked.

Rick chuckled and looked over to his wife.

"Hey, you kept saying you want more exercise. Well, here ya go." He said, pausing momentarily before adding to his comment.

"Try to save some energy for later tonight." He added with a wink.

Amy smiled and rolled her eyes.

"Yes, sir." Was her reply.

"Admit it, this is better than being stuck at work with a pair of scissors glued to your hand." He said.

"Ehh, I didn't really have that many scheduled appointments at the salon today anyway." She countered.

The couple chatted back and forth while keeping an eye on their daughter who was a few steps ahead of them. They were lucky, as energetic as she was; Aurora knew never to stray too far from her parents.

Their suspicions ended up being right. As they made their way to the beach, they saw it was an absolute madhouse. The beach itself was littered with people. And it took them a few solid minutes to get on the beach and find a spot in the sand with their stuff.

It ended up being worth it though. The small family ended up having a blast at the beach, despite it being more crowded than usual. They even got in a few great shots of their fun time with mom's new camera.

At around 7p.m. they finally packed up and left. All of them were quite exhausted from their time spent there. Once they got home, they figured they were gonna crash and spend their remaining hours on the couch in their air-conditioned living room.

He leapt from one rooftop to another, carefully surveying what was going on down below as he went.

This hunt was proving to be more fruitful than he initially thought. And the elite hunter had already bagged himself a few impressive skulls to add to his growing collection.

The hunter stopped, crouched down, and slowly scanned the area from his perch on one of the roofs. There were a few humans down there wandering about their own business. All completely unaware of the invisible hunter stalking from above.

Air'ik at first was a little unsure about venturing into this part of town. The last couple times he was here, he barely saw any criminal activity from ooman badbloods. He quickly found out most of the activity was a bit further northwest from here.

But hey, it doesn't hurt to still cover as much ground as you can. Which is something he prefers to do in a hunt.

"Do you think we have enough shells now to finish decorating the garden, mommy?" Aurora asked, as she swung her bucket full of shells back and forth in her right hand.

"I think we just might have enough this time, Sweetie." Her mom said.

While mother and daughter chatted, Aurora's dad kept scanning their surroundings. They turned down one particularly deserted road they sometimes take as a shortcut. But that evening, he couldn't help feeling like something was off.

It appeared more deserted of pedestrians than usual tonight. And while they may live in a safer part of town, it didn't mean anything bad couldn't happen. He was still kicking himself for forgetting to bring one of his guns with him, just in case for protection.

The three of them must've made it halfway down the dark and quiet street. When Rick noticed one individual turn the corner from one of the side streets and began walking in their general direction.

As the individual drew closer, the trained cop noticed it was a man, mid to late twenties, wearing dirty jeans and a hoodie that looked worse for wear. The man also looked quite unkempt in appearance and had his hands in the pockets of his hoodie.

Once the man was around fifteen feet away, Rick walked in front of the two girls and stayed in front out of habit. At five feet away, the scraggily looking man turned his eyes up from the pavement and made eye contact with Rick. And before the young cop could drop the bag and chair, he was currently holding, the man whipped a gun out from his pocket and trained it on him.

"Don't do anything stupid, Asshole and give me all your fucking money!" He snapped.

His wife Amy froze when she heard the familiar click of a gun and the man's harsh message. While the little girl couldn't see what was going on because her daddy was in front of them, blocking her view.

Aurora turned to her mommy with a questioning look.\

"Mommy?" She asked.

That's when Amy placed herself in front of their daughter. She then looked over her shoulder slightly and nervously smiled down at Aurora.

"It's going to be ok, Baby." She nervously got out.

Rick's eyes ping ponged back and forth from the man's face to his gun. Usually, this sort of thing didn't faze him too much. Seeing as this happened a few times to him before while on patrol. But right now, he was feeling a bit fearful for his family.

"Ok, lemme just put this stuff down. And I'll give you my wallet." Rick said, as calmly as possible.

"No funny shit, Douchebag." The man snapped.

"Just hold on, I'm putting my things down now." Rick said, showing him, he wasn't going to do anything.

"HURRY UP!" The man shouted.

This made Aurora jump in alarm and made her mom flinch. She didn't understand. Who was this man? And why was he being so mean to her daddy?

Once everything was on the ground, Rick held up his left hand as if silently telling him to wait. While he cautiously and very slowly reached into the right pocket of his swim trunks to retrieve his wallet.

Both parents still currently had their eyes on the threat before them. Sadly, they didn't notice Aurora quietly make her way around her mother to see what was going on.

As soon as Aurora walked to her dad's side, she suddenly noticed the gun that was pointed at her daddy. The little girl's bright blue eyes widened, and her mouth dropped open with a very audible gasp.

A fatal mistake she will soon come to regret for the rest of her life.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion to her. The little girl's reaction slightly startled the man. It was this momentary distraction that gave her dad opportunity. While the man was distracted, Rick quickly batted the gun away and quickly tried to wrestle it out of the man's grasp.

During the brief scuffle, Rick quickly peaked in his wife's direction.

"AMY TAKE HER AND GO!" He yelled.

It wasn't a few moments later when the man twisted his wrist out of the young officer's grasp. Then he shot off two rounds point blank into Rick's chest. Blood spatter splashed on Aurora in the process.

As Rick gasped in shock and horror, he heard his wife and daughter scream, right before everything went black.

"RICK!" Amy yelled.

It was then the man quickly turned his gun on Amy and shot her twice in the abdomen. Aurora screamed again in terror as more blood splattered about as both her mommy and daddy were gunned down right in front of her.

Air'ik's head quickly perked up upon hearing the first couple gunshots go off.

It was close, real close. About two blocks east of his position. He quickly took off in that direction, jumping roof tops with ease as he went.

He made it there in no time to scan the scene below.

Air'ik saw two oomans on the ground and another standing over them with a gun. The hunter then heard crying from what was a fourth ooman among the group.

To his surprise, it was a small ooman pup. She stood there frozen in fear, crying.

The man turned his weapon in the child's direction with every intention of killing her too. This made the elite hunter's blood boil and he let out a menacing growl, making his presence known to the doomed man.

"THE FUCK!? WHO'S THERE!?" The man yelled while wildly looking around for the source of the deep, penetrating growl he just heard.

Not a few moments later, a strange shimmer of air dropped down with a hefty 'thump' right in front of the little girl.

Air'ik slowly stood up to full height with a series of menacing clicks. Right before he let his camouflage dissipate and revealed himself to the armed man.

Aurora'a glassy eyes grew wide as saucers as she saw a mountain of muscle and metal suddenly appear in front of her. Whoever he was, he was HUGE!

The man had an equally surprised look on his face.

"WHAT THE FUCK, MAN!" He yelled, before firing a few rounds at the hunter.

Aurora screamed and knelt down to the ground, covering her ears, behind the large stranger.

Each bullet ricocheted off of Air'ik's armor, barely making a dent in it. There was a slight metallic screech as he extended his wrist blades. Not a moment after, he quickly drove the blades deep into the man's sternum.

The man gasped and blood dribbled out of his mouth and down his chin as the hunter lifted him effortlessly off the ground and held him in the air as his prey slowly bled out and died.

"Dishonorable Pauk!" Air'ik hissed as he threw the body off of his wrist blades and onto the ground at his feet.

The hunter wasn't going to bother taking this one's skull. He was an unworthy piece of trash. He'll just take him and skin him and leave him like some of the others he deemed unworthy of taking.

His train of thought was broken when he heard more whimpering and soft cries come from behind him. Air'ik turned around and saw the ooman pup he just saved draped over one of the bodies the ooman badblood had slain.

The young elite hunter usually was a very hardened individual and not one for sentimentality, because it was deemed as weakness.

But the sight of this innocent pup crying over these two slain oomans pulled at him. It filled him with slight dread believing these two dead individuals could be the pup's parents.

The seven-and-a-half-foot hunter quietly approached the small girl and slowly knelt down to her level. He then began to purr to her in comfort.

When Aurora heard what sounded like a giant cat purring at her, she lifted her head off of her mommy's chest and spotted her strange savior crouched down a mere foot in front of her. She gasped a little at his strange appearance.

He looked like a man, but his skin looked like a lizard's. It was dark green with black stripes and what she could see of his torso beneath the armor was cream colored. He also had very strange black hair with weird looking beads in it. But what peaked her curiosity though was the strange mask that covered his face. It was smooth with hardly any grooves in it, and it had a thin, elongated visor that that stretched across the upper portion of the mask where his eyes were.

It took her a moment to realize it was this strange man that was purring at her.

"Safe Now." Came a man's distorted recorded voice from the creature.

It surprised the little girl at first. But the strange, recorded tone somehow put her at ease and seemingly made her feel safe for some reason.

He did save her. So, Aurora knew he wouldn't have done it if he intended to harm her. She opened her mouth to say something, but paused when she heard sirens in the distance.

Air'ik could tell those sirens were rapidly approaching their position. He also knew well enough it meant ooman authorities were on their way. As he seen happen many times before after ooman conflicts happen.

That meant this pup will be safe and he needed to get the hell outta dodge before they came.

He gave the little girl a brief nod. Then he turned around and picked up the body of the ooman badblood. He then activated his camouflage and got out of there.

Aurora watched in shock as he suddenly disappeared right before her eyes and took off.

It was only another 3-4mins before the first patrol car arrived on scene. Someone in one of the houses nearby most likely heard the gun shots and called the police.

The first patrol car came to a screeching halt a few yards away from Aurora and her dead parents. Not a moment later, two cops came out and ran over to her.

One male cop knelt down in front of her.

"Hey Kiddo, you ok?" He asked, face full of concern and worry.

Aurora didn't answer. She continued looking straight ahead over his shoulder, where the mystery stranger just disappeared a few minutes prior.

"Dispatch, I need back up and an ambulance sent over to Bleeker St. on the double. We have a double homicide and a minor suffering from deep traumatic shock." His partner said, into his walkie as he eyed the corpses of the girl's parents.

This was to be a memory that will stick with her forever. Her parents bodies being carted away and a savior that could make himself invisible.
