There were some things I could never get used to around these parts, the cool weather and odd faith of the Flowerbud villagers were easy to adapt to. But the lack of running water at the Fion household was insane. They spent hours pumping ice cold water and carrying it into the house to be boiled for various tasks. The work we did on the vineyard was dirty and rigorous and after a long days work, just relaxing in warm bath took an extensive amount of time. The sky was darkening above me as I lugged the last bucket of water inside for my bath. I poured the cool water into the steaming tub cooling it just enough to get in.
It's hard being so far from my family in the city. Someday I wish I were there with them… Ma and Pap have been struggling for years to take care of us four boys, but with the arrival of our new baby sister Emily, well, even working two part-time jobs and selling drugs on the side I still wasn't bringing in enough for them. I wish I could hate them for kicking me out at thirteen years old, but I know there wasn't much else they could've done.
Besides… she's here. I closed my eyes and envisioned her beautiful face, striking green eyes, blonde hair, soft pouty lips and almost too thin frame. The first time I saw her she had danced with such unabating passion, it was love at first site, you could almost feel her despair as she danced by that river with bruises on her arm. Abuse isn't as uncommon as a lot of people thing it is and it was obvious the sort of environment she was living in. Maybe it's only something you can recognize if you've been through it yourself, but there's a kind of understand people who've experienced that kind of hardship can recognize in each other.
That's why I chose to work for the Fion's instead of working at the Bar, Bakery, Potion Shop or even the Seed Store. I had someone to protect, and in this home I could keep the monster's temper abated. I could let the little bird fly free and even pursue her dreams if I just worked hard enough. I soaped up and rinsed off. Just the idea that I was making her life better made my heart skip a beat.
"Don't think about her Kai, don't- don-" I muttered to myself, but it was no use. My mind flashed back to earlier, the vision of her silky hair clinging of her soft cream skin and her soft mounds floating just above the water. I flushes. "No. No-no-no-" I and like that I was out of the tub, I drained it and dressed for bed. A knock came to the door.
"Sorry to wake you so late, Karen passed out after dinner and the door was locked." Rick said, holding her tightly in his noodly arms.
"Ah, thank-you Rick." I said, taking her from him. The poor man was absolutely smitten with Miss Karen and she couldn't be even a little more oblivious of his feelings although I was certain she didn't reciprocate. "You have a good evening." I said as he skulked off.
The two of us have an unsaid understanding you see, he can spend time with Karen but in the end it'll be me who she loves. I carried her up to her room and tucked her in under her blankets. She'd obviously had way too much to drink to drink, a fault of Rick for not taking better care of her, but there wasn't much I could do about that now. I placed a picture of water and a mug on her bedside for her, I could only imagine the hang-over she might have in the morning.
