"Wake up sleepy-head or else there won't be any barbeque or tofu left for you." Danny smiled as he opened his eyes to see Sam and Tucker smiling above him.
"Yeah man. I won't leave anything left when I get going ya know?" Tucker reached out a hand which Danny took. After getting up, Danny tipped off Tucker's red beret. He grabbed Sam's arm and yelled. "Run before he eats all the barbeque!" Sam laughed as they ran.
"Hey!"
His family was waiting for him beside the grill.
"You need to get more sleep young man." Maddie said as they approached them. Even in a family get-together, she was still in her teal jumpsuit.
"Mom, he can't help it if his hero complex is always calling him to do the night rounds." Jazz stated while helping her mother set the table. Danny glared at her in a playful way.
"Of course! He's doing that for his apprecticeship to his old man. Ha!" Jack, the large man in orange jumpsuit followed up as he tended the grill. The barbeque was already burnt.
Danny sighed and smiled. Everything was well. "Dad, I told you. I'm not your- Dad?" Danny looked around. Everyone vanished and darkness surrounded him.
"What the- Mom? Jazz!?" Danny called out. He walked a bit, venturing the darkness. "Tucker!?" No answer.
"Heh. Who turned off the lights?" He jokingly asked. Still no answer.
'This is too weird. Did they somehow trapped me in the Fenton thermos again?' Danny thought. He cancelled that idea as he saw that he was still in his human form.
"Sam?" He whispered.
As soon as he finished saying her name, he heard her scream.
"DANNY! HELP!"
"SAM!?" Danny panicked. He transformed to his ghostly persona and flew fast around the darkness. "Where are you!?"
"DUDE SAVE US!"
"AH! DANNY!"
"STOP IT!"
"HELP!"
"TUCKER! JAZZ! MOM! DAD! WHERE ARE YOU GUYS!?" Danny shouted. He flew at top speed not caring if he wasn't seeing anything ahead of him. At last, he found them. For some reason, he clearly saw his family and friends facing away from him in the darkness without any light source.
He ignored that and relieved himself. He reached out a hand for his dad. "Geez. Stop kidding around you guys. Almost gave me a heart attack- AAHHH!" He screamed as his dad turned around. He had ebony skin and yellow eyes. He had a blank expression which turned into rage as Danny came to his view.
"Why didn't you protect us?"
Danny instantly release his grip from his dad's shoulder and backed up a lot. Everyone turned around with the same terrifying characteristics his dad had and started to walk towards him.
"We called for you but you never came."
Danny paled. He wanted to react to that but his voice failed him.
"Why did you abandon us?"
"Whyy?"
Finally, he shook himself out of stupor. "What!? No! I... I... I-"
"-am weak and pathetic." A deep voice cut him off. Danny swirled around to find where the voice originated.
A being came out of the shadows. He was lying in the air like there was an invisible bed was underneath him. He had the same color combination and DP insignia as Danny. However he had long white flaming hair, red eyes and green skin. Danny's worst fear and enemy, his evil alternate future self.
"You!"
"Me, you mean. It's only a matter of time before you become me." He laughed. "Oh wait..."
"No! No... I won't because I promised!" Danny proclaimed with conviction.
"Oh yes. That promise. " The evil ghost jumped down from his invisible bed and faded into nothing along with his family. "The one thing that would keep you becoming me... Too bad you already broke it."
"What? I'm not turning into you! Arghh!" Danny closed his eyes as his head began to throbbed painfully. He dropped down to his knees. He tried to shake it off but it just got worse.
"You're right. You aren't turning into me." Danny heard from a low whisper. He opened his eyes. Rather than seeing his adult self, he saw a terrifying image of himself in the mirror that appeared in front of him.
It was an image of himself but his snowy white hair was transforming into a white blazing fire. His green eyes were tainted with raging blood red and were eventually lost. His skin was slowly turning into green. His tongue split its end. The worst part was that he could feel the parts on himself.
"I am you." Both the reflection and Danny himself said. They proceeded into laughing maniacally.
"NO!"
Danny woke up screaming. He breathe heavily in and out. He was sweating profusely. 'It was a dream... I knew Tucker wouldn't wake me up... He'd be eating the meat without me.' He smiled despite himself. With one last heaved, he calmed himself and thought of the nightmare. "I also won't allow it to happen that easily."
"What won't you allow?" A voice asked him from his right.
"Ahh!" Danny screamed and fell from the bed. He quickly recovered and took a fighting stance. He assumed that the voice came from the guy who looked as old as he was.
In Danny's opinion, the dude looked like those male models that the A-lister girls fawned over. He had super long silver hair and blue green eyes. He wore an open pearl-white vest with yellow on its other side that reveals a black sleeveless turtleneck having a zipper with two pull tabs on the center. Additionally, he had baggy pants which had a slightly darker hue than his hair.
"Who are you?" Danny stopped for a second . "And where am I?"
The teenager-model cocked an eyebrow at him. "I'm Riku. You're in Radiant Garden. ...Do you remember what happened?"
'Radiant Garden? What kind of a name is that?' Danny put his hand through his hair. He racked his brain and processed what happened so far. "I was in a ship... A dog, duck and a guy named... Sora? Found us and- wait a minute."
He looked around but he found no sign of Sam. He grabbed Riku by the shoulder. "Where's Sam? The girl that was with me. Where is she?"
Riku looked away from him and remained silent.
"No..." Danny released his grip. "Don't tell me she didn't... No!" He slammed his fists down on the soft bed.
The door flung open revealing a red haired teenager girl standing in front of Sora. Her oufit was a pink strapless dress with very mini-skirt and a white halter top beneath it. "What happened? Oh, he's awake! Don't tell me... Riku! I never thought that you were this mean!" She reprimanded, putting her hands on her waist.
"I was fairly forced in it." He replied although he sounded a bit pleased with himself.
Danny was confused. He was gonna asked what was up with their conversation but then was cut off.
"Fire!"
He suddenly felt his butt burning. "Yeeeeeoowww!" He jumped up and started rubbing his butt on the floor in an attempt to remove the small fire.
"Blizzard!"
He felt the burning sensation leave but he felt mildly cold… and was stuck on the floor with ice around his butt.
Sora let out a low whistle. "A well cast fire and blizzard... Not bad Sam."
'Sam?' Upon hearing the name, Danny looked up. He saw Sam standing in the doorway holding up a staff. "Thanks Sora. And you deserve all that Mr. I'm-the-hero-so-I-should-carry-all-the-burden."
"Sam!" Danny jumped up and ran towards her. He hugged her tightly and felt so relieved. He never wanted to let her go.
"You're okay..." He didn't care that there was a whole bunch of people in the room. All he wanted right now was to hug Sam. She hugged him back. "I'm glad you're okay too. But, you're crushing me."
He slowly relinquished his hold of her and laughed. "I was okay until you burned my butt then tried to freeze me to death." Sam chuckled. The sound of her laughter put his mind in peace. He took a good look at her and noticed that she had large eye bags under her purple eyes. Evidently, she hadn't been sleeping. "Was that really you? How did you learn magic? Wait, magic's real?" He now noticed a broom cleaning the room. It took offense on what he said and threw down the bucket of water it was holding and walked out.
"Um, Danny, you should know that-".
"Of course magic's real! " Sora spoke up before Sam could give him a more important information. "Don't worry, the broom will come around. I'm also the one who taught Sam. She saw me while I was training and pushed me into teaching her. Not to mention, Kairi over here also wanted to learn."
"He fell apart after the girls give him the eyes." Riku added.
"Puppy eyes." Kairi made a peace sign.
"Demon eyes." Sam said smugly.
Danny flinched and turned to Sora. "Sorry dude. I know that feeling in front of the demon eyes."
"I swear. It's the most scariest thing I've ever seen." Sora fake scared. Everyone laughed except Sam who crossed her arms. "By the way, nicely done Sam! It's the first time you successfully cast the spells after three days of training. How do you feel?"
"A bit tired but satisfied."
"Hold on a sec there... I've been asleep for three days!?" Danny cried.
"Well, by diagnosis, you were suppose to sleep a week. You healed fast with the help of Cure Magic." Sora said. "You were pretty banged up when we saw you. On that note, what happened to your world? Do you know the guy responsible for covering your world in darkness ?"
Danny frowned and narrowed his eyes. Gloom settled on his face. Sam confronted Sora and said. "I told you, it isn't your business on what happened on our world! Stop asking!"
"It is. Actually, it's ours as keyblade wielders to the worlds." Kairi quietly interjected.
"They have a duty with the Earth and the Ghost Zone?" Danny queried.
"Oh right! I was going to explain it to you." Sam slapped her forehead. "We're not on Earth anymore." Danny looked confused.
"Aren't we in America?"
Sam sighed, recalling why she calls him Clueless One. "Do you think that there would be any part of America that would have a house like this?"
Now that Sam had mentioned about it, he surveyed the room. The wooden ceiling had the formed the typical triangular shape roof he saw in cartoons. The cracked walls were made of cold hard gray cement. A lot of books were scattered across the tiled floor. Standing out was some sort of a do-it-yourself computer with extra appendages that had numerous blinking lights.
"We could be in a cabin in the woods…?" Danny weakly said. Sam shook her head.
"We're in a different world named Radiant Garden. According to Sora and company, there are a lot worlds besides ours. It's kind of like a multi-universe thing."
"That's where the keyblade wielders' duty comes up." Riku said.
"Keyblade wielder? What, you brandish around a very large key like a sword?" Danny chided. "Oh, you guys are serious?" He added as he saw the trio's offended looks. "Er, sorry. So, where are your keyblades?" It was obvious that they weren't carrying it. Danny found it weird to not see any holster for the weapon.
"As weird as it sounds... yes, we're serious. And it's not just any key." Sora summoned his keyblade. He held his arms in front of him. Light appeared in his hands and took form of a key. His fingers wrapped around the handle and held it up for Danny to see. He smiled as he saw awe etched on Danny's face.
Danny agreed that the keyblade wasn't a normal large key. It had a yellow handle and silver body. The blade of the key was shorter than an average key's. The space between its teeth formed a shape of a crown. A silver three circled keychain was dangling on the end of its handle.
"Whoa, you can just summon it in the air? That's awesome!" Danny exclaimed. "I wish I could do that on the Fenton Thermos." Danny whispered the last sentence but Riku heard it.
"Thermos? Isn't that a container for soup?"
"Yeah. But instead of soup, it traps ghosts. My parents invented it."
"Ghosts…Right." Riku had seen a lot of stuff but he doubted that ghosts actually existed.
"Mermaids and dragons existed. Why not ghosts?" Sora nonchalantly remarked. He let his keyblade dissipate into the air. "Jack Sparrow had undead as his enemies. In fact, Jack Skellington's dog was a ghost!"
Kairi giggled. "It was cute too."
"I personally know a cute ghost too." Danny was about to ask who but blushed instead as he saw Sam looking at him. "Anyway, getting back to our original topic, what's the duty of a keyblade wielder?"
Riku answered. "Their duty is to protect the worlds from being consumed by darkness."
Sam clenched her hands to a fist. Anger swelled up inside of her. "Wow, you handled that pretty well." Heavy sarcasm was dripping word per word. "Where were you when our world was attacked by this darkness? If you guys were to protect worlds, then why didn't you protect mine!? Why didn't you help us?"
Danny held her hand tightly. "No, Sam. If it's anyone's fault, it's mine. I wasn't powerful enough to save our own world." 'I wasn't powerful enough to stop him or even his stupid little minions.'
"Don't you go hero on me now! Stop burdening yourself with everything!" Danny went silent, not wanting to add fuel to the fire. "Well? What do you guys have to say for yourselves?"
Riku was going to retaliate but he felt Sora's hand on his shoulder. He then lets Sora handle the conversation.
"We're sorry Sam. We were trying to help but there was an unnaturally strong barrier that was blocking our path. After we managed to take it down, it was already too late. It greatly nerved both Riku and I that someone was powerful enough to make a barrier that delayed us a lot. We're really sorry." Sora tightened his grip. His face showed anger and shame of not being able to keep up with his duty.
Sam saw a piece of Danny in Sora. As care-free Sora gets, he was serious with his responsibility as a keyblade wielder. Her anger steadily elated. "No, I'm sorry for lashing out on you guys... It was ungrateful of me since you saved our lives."
"It's no biggie." Sora grinned easily forgiving Sam for her outburst. "It's thanks to Riku's deduction that we found you guys floating in the realm of darkness."
"We also experienced our world being devoured by darkness in the past. We got to escape through that realm." Riku explained. "I thought, what were the chances of others doing it too?"
"And don't you guys worry. We can restore your world like we did with ours!" Kairi said. The thought of having their world back elated Sam and Danny's feeling.
"Really? How?"
"Well, first we need to find where the guy who's responsible with this and defeat him." Sora said.
"Easier said than done." Danny said. "He's a hundred times stronger than me and that was before he could control the darkness."
Riku scrutinized him. Truth to be told, Danny was a weak-looking kid. Sure, Danny was a lot taller than Sora but it seemed like he could take Danny on without a beat. He can't sense anything special about him other than his strong heart. Though with what he said, it's like he was implying that he was powerful. Before he could ask, the ground shook; causing pots and pans fell down. Cups and plates slowly vibrated towards the edge of the table. A thundering roar resounded through out the room.
Danny's ghost sense activated. He let out a blue mist from his mouth. 'Oh no.'
"Was that a dragon roar?" Kairi asked after the shaking stopped. However, there was another earthquake that was much stronger than the previous one. "Whoa~" She would have fallen down if not for Sora. Thanking Sora, she looked how the rest were doing. Danny was holding Sam while Riku managed to stand straight on his own.
"This isn't a normal earthquake..." Riku observed. A large roar echoed throughout the house. He ran towards the door and went outside. The others followed suite.
As they went outside, Danny saw that they were in the center of the neighborhood which was similar in town house. All the houses looked pretty much the same, orange triangular roof and pearl walls. Farther away, white high walls stood that had numerous dark creatures going down. He recognized them as one type of the army which attacked their world. Interestingly, some kind of light mechanism was trying to put them out but there was too much of them.
"Heartless!" Sora yelled. He, Riku and Kairi summoned their keyblades and assumed battle stances.
"Heartless? That's what they're called?"
"Yeah, those types are called Shadows. " Riku explained. "The bigger types are Gigas Shadows. Heartless are the downside of having a keyblade. They always chase us because they fear the keyblade since it can do grave damage to them."
"Isn't that contradictory?" Danny asked. "Why would they go for the guys who have the bigger gun?"
"I do get their point. They must be wanting to get rid of the guys who could effectively banish them." Sam supplied.
"That and plus, they want to get our hearts." Kairi said.
"Ewww..." Danny and Sam both reacted with the thought of them ripping their hearts out.
"It's not like what you're thinking. It's more like your heart comes out on its own and uh... Argh, never mind. Here they come!" Sora exclaimed as the battalion came nearer.
Sora and Riku ran headfirst and clashed with the army. The two worked together as if they could read each other's mind. Hacking and slashing the army while guarding each other's back.
Before Danny dived into the battle, he asked Kairi a favor. "Kairi, can you please make sure Sam would be safe? Ouch!" He cried as Sam painfully whacked him on the head with her staff.
"Don't be like that! We'll be fine. And I can stand on my own, thank you very much! Now, go ghost and help the guys!" Sam rebuked him.
Danny looked at Sam with deep concern. He gave her a quick hug before he went over to Sora and Riku.
"What do you mean by 'go ghost'?" Kairi asked as she cast a blizzard to support the boys from behind.
"You'll see." Sam said with pride as she also cast her own blizzard.
"Hey Riku!" Riku heard Danny calling him. He backed up a bit and faced Danny. "What is it?"
"You don't believe in ghosts right?" Danny said as he ran towards them. Riku nodded before hitting an incoming heartless. "You better be believing now!" He saw Danny jumped. A bright white ring appeared on his waist and that split. Two rings gone up and down his body. The black haired boy was replaced with a white haired boy. He was also flying in the air.
"Danny Phantom, at your service!" Riku smiled as he heard him shout. Noting that he had the familiar voice as Danny even though it was accompanied with an echo.
Danny blasted the group of heartless using his ghost ray. It frustrated him to see that he needs to hit them four to six times before they went out; unlike Sora and Riku who vanquished one to three with one swing.
Sora was doing fine on his own when almost out of nowhere, he came across a new batch of heartless. He never saw this kind of heartless before. They closely resembled a Shadow however, instead of having white eyes, they had red eyes. They had chains wound around their body and release a creepy white aura.
He slashed at them. He thought that he missed but he could see the heartless being dazed. He tried to attack them again and again. In three hits, the new type of heartless dissolved but each time, he felt like battling with nothing but air.
"Riku! These new heartless are weird!"
"I know. Use magic! It's more effective." Riku replied a bit distracted. He cast Thundaga and hit several of the new type.
Danny landed behind him and froze a row of Shadow with his ice powers. "I encountered them in my world! Normal hits won't work on them because somehow they manage to have the power to go intangible like ghosts." He proceeded to break the iced heartless into million pieces with his punch.
"Intan- what now?" Sora asked while he shot a firaga towards the farther heartless and barraged the front ones.
"They can go through objects. How is it that you can hit them?"
"'Go through objects', huh? I'm guessing that's how you got into our ship without us opening the hatch for you." Danny meekly grinned. "Anyway, I don't know but it's like I'm hitting them and at the same time, I'm not. Maybe it has got something to do with the keyblade?" Sora wasn't sure but it had always something to do with the keyblade. "What do you think Riku?"
Riku wasn't listening to them. He was worried about where the dragon roar originated. As if on cue, a dragon roar vibrated in the air once again. They turned and caught sight of a black and purple dragon flying in the air.
"Maleficent!?" Kairi shouted.
"No, that can't be right. It's not like Maleficent to attack directly. Her wings are also smaller compared to that." Riku said with Sora agreeing with him.
"That's our dragon." Sam uttered. "I mean, our dragon enemy! Danny, that's Aragon!"
"Yeah, I'd recognize the slime ball's dragon form anytime." Danny confirmed but he noticed that a bunch dark steam coming out of the dragon's body was weird. He then flew up to the dragon's height and taunted. "What's the matter stinky-breath? Didn't get to use toothpaste in the dungeon?" The dragon roared again and swiped its claw on Danny which he easily evaded. "Hah! Is that all you- Yikes!" He barely dodged the fireball that headed towards him. As he faced the dragon, he couldn't find him anywhere.
"What the, where'd he go? ...Did he just ignored me?" Danny hated it when his enemies ignored him. He scanned the battlefield for any sign of the dragon. 'He must've turned invisible.' Danny realized. 'Darn it, how am I gonna find him now?.
On the spur of the moment, he gained an idea. He fused his ghost ray and ice power together and shot it upward. Reaching to its highest peak, it exploded. Snow showered on the area, revealing a snowy outline of a dragon. It was nearing Sora and was going to strike. Without hesitation, Danny sped towards Sora.
"Sora, watch out!"
"Huh?"
Danny managed to reach Sora in time to push both of them out of the way. He made them intangible in case he wasn't fast enough to do so. However, the dragon still succeeded in hitting, fortunately or not, only Danny.
"Gah!"
Danny hit the wall hard, creating cracks on it. The dragon wasn't done. It was furious at Danny for ruining his surprise attack. He bashed Danny with his tail thrice, digging him deeper into the wall and forcing Danny to revert back to his human persona.
"Ugh..." He felt like a dozen bulldozers ran through his body.
"Danny!" Sam cried. She and Kairi rushed to him but they were still too far.
The dragon was about to deliver the fourth attack when Sora distracted it with Blizzaga. "Hey! Pick someone your own size!" He yelled even though he was way smaller than the dragon and even Danny. The dragon put his full attention to Sora and pursued him. Sora drew it away from Danny.
Danny fell onto the floor as the broken wall couldn't support him any longer. With his eyes half-open, he could see Kairi and Sam coming towards him before they completely closed.
That's it for second chapter! I would like to thank Amelie Nocturne and Ender the Time Lady for beta-reading this!
R&R guys.
One word is enough.
Even a rate of 10 is enough for me.
