Pippin, Gandalf and Solatiri rushed through the streets of Minas Tirith. Gandalf seemed determined as he spoke to them.
"Peregrin Took, my lad, there is a task to be done. Another opportunity for one of the Shire-folk to prove their great worth! You must not fail me."
"Pippin", Solatiri said. "Stay safe. it is a very high climb. There's no telling what will happen if you fall and fail us."
Pippin nodded and ran off. Solatiri and Gandalf watched as he ran to the other side of the beacon tower and began climbing up the side of the tower.
"Will he be alright?" she asked.
"I have confidence in him", Gandalf said. "He may be a young fool but he will not fail us when it matters most."
Solatiri looked up as Pippin climbed higher and higher up the tower. She and Gandalf watched as he reached the top of the tower and climbed on top of the wood. There was a moment that made them gasp as Pippin reached for the flaming torch. As he leaned forward to grab the torch, he accidentally snapped one of the ropes holding the vat of oil above the wood. Pippin grabbed the torch and dropped it onto the wood, setting it aflame. Solatiri and Gandalf smiled as Pippin climbed down from the tower as the fire engulfed the wood.
"Amon Din", Gandalf murmured as the beacons on the mountains in the distance were being lit up as well.
"The beacon!" a soldier behind them yelled. "The beacon of Amon Din is lit!"
"Hope is kindled", Gandalf smiled.
"Theoden and the Rohrrim will come will they?" Solatiri asked.
"All we have to do is wait now", he answered.
He suddenly turned as he noticed the sky growing dark in the distance. The clouds turned black over the city of Osgiliath.
"The city is taken", Gandalf frowned.
"Faramir", Solatiri said her eyes widening. "Is he alright?"
Pippin made it down to the bottom of the tower.
"Peregrin Took, our work is not yet finished, my lad", he said. "There are more who need our help."
"Nazgul!" a soldier yelled in the distance.
Gandalf, Solatiri and Pippin looked up in the sky to see the nine Nazgul. Gandalf picked up Pippin and sat him on Shadowfax and mounted the horse behind him. Everyone in the city watched as Gandalf rode out of the city gates and rode toward Osgiliath. Everyone gasped as they saw the Nazgul on their fell-beasts picking up the Osgiliath soldiers still on their horses. The beasts carried the men through the air before throwing them aside. Solatiri hoped none of those men were Faramir.
Gandalf rode at full speed with his staff held up in the air. The Nazgul turned their attention to him as they swooped down to attack. A bright light suddenly flashed from Gandalf's staff lighting up the sky. The Nazgul shrieked as they backed away from the light, flying back toward Mordor. Gandalf turned back to Minas Tirith, accompanying the soldiers to the city. Solatiri ran toward the gates hoping Faramir was there.
"Gandalf", Faramir said. "They broke through our defenses. They have taken the bridge and the West Bank. Battalions of Orcs are crossing the river."
"It is as Lord Denethor had predicted", one of the soldiers said. "Long has he foreseen this doom!"
"Foreseen and done nothing!" Gandalf said.
Faramir went silent as he laid his eyes upon Pippin. Pippin looked back at him before turning his gaze.
"Faramir?" Gandalf said. "This is not the first Halfling to have crossed your path."
"No", he answered shaking his head.
"You've seen Frodo and Sam?" Pippin asked.
"Where?" Gandalf asked. "When?"
"In Ithilien. Not two days ago. Gandalf, they're taking the road to the Morgul Vale."
"And then the path to Cirith Ungol", Gandalf said worried.
"Faramir!"
Faramir looked up to see Solatiri running to them. He jumped off his horse and embraced her in a tight hug.
"Solatiri! Thank the heavens you are still alive!"
"As are you, my friend", she smiled hugging him.
"I thought you had died", Faramir said. "I…I saw Boromir and assumed you were gone."
Solatiri frowned and looked down.
"I will tell you about it."
