Solatiri watched with sad eyes as Faramir led the last bit of soldiers to the front gates of Minas Tirith. She hoped dearly that Faramir would make it back to the Citadel alive. Everyone tossed flowers in the roads, bidding the soldiers farewell. She watched as Gandalf tried to persuade Faramir not to go, to no avail. Solatiri turned away as the soldiers passed through the gates, and walked back to stand by Pippin's side as they watched Denethor eat all the food set at the table.

"Can you sing, master Hobbit?" Denethor asked.

"Well…yes", Pippin answered. "At least well enough for my own people. But we have no songs for great halls and evil times."

"And why should your songs be unfit for my halls?" he asked looking at Pippin. "Come, sing me a song."

Pippin looked at Denethor as he continued eating. He didn't know what song to sing for a moment like this.

"Home is behind, the world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight"

Solatiri looked at Pippin smiling as he sang. He had a lovely voice. Denethor paid no mind as he continued eating, making the loudest noise he could with each chew.

"Mist and shadow, cloud and shade
All shall fade
All shall…fade"

Pippin turned to Denethor who continued eating with tomato juice dribbling down his chin. The expression he wore was one fill with coldness. Tears came to Pippin's eyes as he began to cry. Everything was starting to soak in. Being separated from all his friends, serving under a cold man who just sent the only son he had left to certain death. Solatiri wrapped her arms around him trying to comfort him.

"Is that it?" Denethor asked. "Is that all you can sing? Rohan maid, you can sing. Sing me a song fit for a moment such as this."

"My lord, I do not think I can sing right now", Solatiri said.

"You will if you know what's good for you", he said looking straight ahead. "Sing another song."

Solatiri sighed as she looked at Pippin who still continued to cry. She gently used her thumb to wipe the tears off his face giving him a slight smile. Solatiri took his hand and placed it against her round belly, letting him feel.

"The faintest scent of tears on my rain-soaked cheeks
The warm look on the face of travelers"

Solatiri looked out the nearest window hoping to get a glimpse of Faramir riding to Osgiliath. She saw nothing, however, nor heard a single battle cry.

"The music from our childhood faintly echoes in the background
The memories that I hopelessly try to remember wanders aimlessly

But with these tiny wings, launched by my dreams
Over distant oceans and skies we'll soar together
To a place where memories never fade"

At that instant, Solatiri felt the first bit of movement come from the child inside her. She looked at her belly and gently caressed it.

"You light up the way for me in the darkness of night
Oh, that warm look on your face…"

Tears came to her eyes as she finished.

"I miss you so much"

Denethor had finished eating and just sat at the table. Solatiri and Pippin watched as a single tear rolled down his face. They both looked in shock. Their songs had struck a chord with a seemingly heartless man. Solatiri stood by the window and looked out to the fields, waiting for Faramir to return safe and sound.
