Pippin and Solatiri watched as the soldiers placed Faramir's body on a bed of wood. Solatiri gasped as she understood what Denethor intended to do.
"What's happening?" Pippin asked.
"Denethor's killing him", she said. "He's going to burn him alive."
"The house of his spirit crumbles", Denethor said lost in his madness as he looked at his son. "He's burning…already burning."
"He's not dead", Pippin said as he and Solatiri entered the tomb.
"Denethor, listen to us for once!" Solatiri said pushing him away from Faramir. "You've become mad, you lunatic! Faramir is not dead! if you'd just look at your son for once!"
Soldiers grabbed her before she could lay a hand on the steward. They dragged her out of the tomb, same with Denethor as he dragged Pippin.
"He's not dead!" Pippin yelled.
"Farewell, Peregrin, son of Paladin", Denethor said. "I release you from my service."
The soldiers and Denethor threw Pippin and Solatiri out of the tomb.
"Go now and die in which way you think is best."
He slammed the door before giving one last command to the soldiers inside the tomb.
"Pour oil on the wood!"
"Faramir!" Solatiri gasped.
"Hurry!" Pippin said taking her hand. "We must find Gandalf!"
She got up and ran following Pippin down to the lower levels. Pippin looked around in horror. This almost looked identical to the vision he saw in the palantir. The city was burning. Orcs and soldiers laid in the roads dead or dying. The ones that were still alive were retreating to the high levels.
"Gandalf!" Pippin called out. "Where is Gandalf? Gandalf!"
They backed away to the wall behind them as a catapult launched a fireball into the city. Solatiri gasped as she heard Gandalf yelling from the level below them.
"Retreat! The city is breached. Fall back to the second level! Get the women and children out! Get them out. Retreat!"
Solatiri pulled Pippin as she finally saw Gandalf riding Shadowfax up to the next level.
"Gandalf!" Pippin said. "Denethor's lost his mind!"
"He's burning Faramir alive!" Solatiri said.
"Up!" Gandalf said pulling her and Pippin onto the horse. "Quickly!"
They rode at full speed as Shadowfax galloped through the levels of Minas Tirith. They were brought to a halt as one of the nine Nazul riding a fell beast landed in their path. Gandalf raised his staff in the air ready to fight him off as best as he could.
"Go back to the abyss!" he said. "Fall into the nothingness that awaits you and your master!"
"Do you not know death when you see it, old man?" the Nazgul rasped. "This is my hour!"
He drew his sword which burst into flames. Gandalf's staff burst to pieces in his hand. Shadowfax neighed startled as he rose to his back legs, throwing Gandalf, Solatiri and Pippin from his back.
"Gandalf!" Pippin yelled when he saw him virtually powerless. "Solatiri!"
She groaned in pain as she grabbed her round belly. She was putting herself in great danger. The baby was going to be killed if she kept this up. Solatiri gasped as she saw the fell beast roar in Gandalf's face, ready to kill. Pippin stood and charged toward it with his sword drawn. He stopped in fear as the beast turned its head to him instead.
"Pippin!"
Solatiri pulled her knife she kept in her boot and threw it into the beast's chest. The fell beast roared in pain as the Nazgul looked at them.
"You have failed. The world of men will fall."
He lifted his sword but stopped as a horn sounded in the distance. He turned to it and listened. Solatiri looked in the direction of the horn relieved. Help had come. Rohan had come…Aragorn and the rest had come. The Nazgul looked back at Gandalf and then flew off to fight the army of Rohan.
