SAM'S P.O.V.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I mindlessly scrolled through the news, not really paying attention to anything I was reading. Dean was sitting across the table, reading and searching for clues about The Mark. A quiet yet subtle beat came from upstairs where Rae had locked herself in her room since Metatron left. I assumed Dean and Rae were fighting, yet no one gave any reasons as to why. When I attempted to ask Dean about it, he shrugged it off like it was no big deal. It was frustrating.
A news caption caught my attention. "Man brutally tortured and beaten by Woman." Curious, I clicked on it and began reading. There was a video link of evidence of the woman beating the man. I clicked the play button and watched a short, red head woman take down this old dude. She turned and the camera caught a clear image of her face. It didn't take me long to recognize the face.
"Dean, you have to see this." I muttered. Dean moved to my side of the table as I replayed the video. He watched intently until the woman's face was shown again.
"What the hell? Sam, that's Charlie!" Dean said, pausing the video.
"I'm aware. The real question is, what is she doing?"
"I dint know. Charlie wouldn't hurt a fly. Why is she beating up some old man?"
"I guess there's only one way to find out..." I muttered, giving Dean a side glance.
"Of course." He sighed. "The real question is do we want to take the kid or leave her here?" He looked upstairs. The beat had disappeared, now replaced with something with more guitars.
"I don't know. She has a tendency of getting herself into trouble when she's left alone."
"She'll be in the base. What could possibly happen?" I tried to ignore the list of possibilities piling up in my head. "Besides, it's not like she doesn't know what she's doing."
"I think you're trying to avoid her."
"And if I am?"
"Why?"
"Reasons. Now I'm going to go pack. I guess you can ask Rae if she wants to go or not." He walked off, leaving me alone. Sometimes the two of them reminded me so much of each other I'd swear they were father and daughter or something. I sighed and headed upstairs to Rae's room. I knocked on the door and the music stopped.
"Who is it?"
"Sam. Can I come in?"
"Sure." I walked in to see Rae had books scattered every where. Some where open, some had things sticking out of them, like pencils and papers. There was even books on her bed, but she was in her laptop.
"I don't mean to sound like your dad or anything, but you need to clean your room." She looked up and shook her head, smiling.
"I know. It's a mess. I thought I had a lead on something, but it turned out to be nothing." She said, looking back at the laptop. I frowned at the thought of her leaving, realizing now just how attached I had gotten to her. I shook my head, reminding myself what I was up here for.
"Anyway, one of our friends is acting strange and winded up on the news for beating up some old man. We, me and Dean, we're going to go check on her. Do you want to go?"
"What's your friends name?" She asked.
"Um, Charlie. She's real cool and-"
RAE'S P.O.V.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Charlie, huh?" I said under my breath, but Sam must not have heard me, for he continued to ramble on about Charlie. I couldn't help but let out a little sigh. I was pretty sure Charlie really didn't like me. Of course, she was always really nice to me and never said that she didn't like me, but I was almost positive her and Dean had a thing. And well, that 'thing' was probably strained when Dean showed up with a baby in his arms. The whole thing really blew up according to Uncle Sam, but at least I knew Charlie wasn't my mother. She never really warmed up to me after that, and always stared at me like she wished she was my mother.
"Look Sam," I said, cutting off Sam again. "I'd like to go but I have some other leads on how to go back home and I'd like to continue researching." I said, glancing at the computer screen. Sam's face fell a little.
"Why are you and Dean mad at each other?" He suddenly asked.
"I don't agree on how he handled things with Metatron." Sam opened his mouth but I kept going. "He intentionally sent me out of the room, Sam. He knew what he was doing. It's his fault for letting himself get carried away with it all and I have no sympathy for that."
"Alright. I suppose I won't blame you for that." He sighed. "Well, I'm going to go pack. I'll let you know when we leave, alright?" I nodded and Sam left. I waited until he closed the door before turning my music back up. I focused back on the laptop screen, and sighed. Nothing I needed was popping up, so I closed the screen and crawled out of bed. After glancing at a few books, I selected a few I thought would lead somewhere and placed them of my bed. The thing is, I didn't even know what I was looking for. Was I trying to time travel? Did I need to undo something Leo did? I didn't know, and it was about to drive me nuts. I shook my head and decided I needed a break from my room. I shut off my music and headed out the door, to the part of the house that over looked the rest of the living space. And it's exactly where Dean was looking over some book.
"Shouldn't you be packing?" I asked. He glanced up.
"I'm already ready. Just waiting on Sam." I nodded.
"Well, be safe. I would hate for anything to happen, especially when I'm not there." I said. Dean gave me a small smile before going back to his book. Sam walked into the room and said,
"You ready?" Dean looked up and nodded towards his bags next to his own feet. Sam nodded and looked back at me.
"Alright. We're going to head out. You know where everything is and how everything works, but feel free to call if you run into any problems."
"Understood. You guys be safe now!" I said as they headed towards the door.
"Goodbye, Rae. Good luck on your research!" They walked out the door, leaving me alone for the first time in what seemed like a while. The silence of the base almost seemed to get louder and the base grew in size. I frowned. My laptop pinged, making me go back into my room. I opened the laptop and looked to find a notification in the corner labeled "Half of Small Town Caught in Mysterious Fire." Cocking my head to the side, I opened it and it lead me to a live news feed. Clicking the unmute button, the lady's voice filled the air.
"The small town of Columbus, Kansas has been set aflame by an unknown source. The locals have been evacuated and fire fighters are at the scene. The odd thing about the fire though, is that no one knows where or when it could've started. Before people were even aware something was on fire, half the town was already burned. It was all very sudden and wide spread. The police are also on the scene, attempting to figure out what happened. Stay tuned for more updates."
The screen went black. I squinted at my reflection. Mysterious fire, huh? Maybe for an average human, but I knew better. There was a reason behind this fire, and the fact that it was in Columbus, the small town that I was teleported into, made it too coincidental. There was only one demon I knew who had a history of only setting things halfway ablaze, and he went by the name of Leo.
But why was he acting up now? Was he calling me out? I sighed and googled the distance from here to Columbus, Kansas. Wow, he really couldn't have chosen a closer place? I looked over at my faithful backpack, the one that had my name stitched into it and held many important things.
Like my drivers license.
I wonder if I would get in trouble for driving out of the base without permission. I knew there was cars in the garage; it wouldn't be anything to drive one out. I was an excellent driver, so I had no worries of being pulled over. I got up and walked over to my backpack, opening it and digging around. I whipped out my wallet and opened it curiously. There was my smiling face on my license. I slid it out of the pocket and took a closer look at it. I gasped.
The expiration date on it had changed.
Instead of the year being 2035, it now read 2017. I didn't understand. How did the year change? It made me think of Sam's credit card and how I thought the date had expired, but looking at my license, I was second guessing the whole "expired" thing and wondering if... Had the years changed somehow? To match the year I was in? I shook my head. That's impossible. I thought to myself. But was anything really impossible?
I sighed and slid my license back into its holder. I wish I had someone who knew answers; who knew what kind of mess I was in. I glanced back at my laptop, the realization slowly settling inside my brain. There was somewhere out there who probably knew the answers I was looking for.
And he went by the name of Leo.
Hey guys! Sorry for such the long pause in between stories. I got caught up between school and snow and all sorts of other stuff, but I'm back now! Hope everyone has been having a nice week.
Until next time!
