SAM'S P.O.V.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We walked side by side into the prison, unsure of the case. According the notification, someone had broken into the prison and stabbed a man before the two 'vanished.' The prisoner was then found outside while the other mystery man was gone. We were here today to watch the security feeds to see if the man in the video was on any of our 'suspect lists.' It was just Dean and I; Cas went on a separate mission of his own, taking Rae with him. He insisted that she would be more help him than she would be with us. Rae didn't argue it, so we let them go. Thinking of Rae made me wonder how the two of them were doing. I sent her a quick text,

Anything so far? I didn't even put my phone in my pocket before it buzzed.

Still traveling, was the reply.

"Hm." I said out loud. Dean glanced over at me. We were currently being lead to the security room, the heels of our shoes echoing through the silent walls.

"What?" He asked.

"Messaged Rae. They're still traveling." Dean nodded.

"They probably left a couple of hours ago ." He guessed. Cas' only detail about the mission was it was over in Illinois, and that he'd call us if he found what he was looking for. I wasn't worried, he knew what he was doing and knew to keep Rae safe. I put my phone in my pocket about the same time we entered the security room.

"Have a seat, gentlemen." The officer said, gesturing to the two chairs he had on our side of the table. We took a seat as he opened the laptop he was carrying and set it on the table. The two of us stared at the black screen until he clicked a button and the video started playing. It showed an empty hall until a man wearing all black with shaggy hair walked down it. He turned slowly and stared right into the camera. I heard Dean take a sharp intake of air beside me. The officer glanced up at us.

"Do you know who he is?" The officer asked. Dean let out a shaky breath and muttered,

"We know him alright."

RAE'S P.O.V.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We drove and drove and drove, passing through multiple landscapes as we went: endless fields, soaring mountains, icy rocks, breezy hills. We were driving along the flatness once more when I caught a glance of a passing sign. Welcome to Illinois!, it proclaimed proudly. I glanced over at Cas, debating whether or not I should break the silence that had filled the car since we left the bunker.

"So where are we going?" I finally asked.

"Somewhere in Illinois. I am unaware of the specifics." I shifted in the passenger seat to look at him.

"Okay, so I'm guessing the better question would be, what are we looking for?"

"Cain," I tensed, "or any traces of Cain." Cas replied, peering at the nothingness ahead of him.

"And how am I supposed to help? You told Sam and Dean that I would be way more help with you than them."

"Well, they're going to a prison, Rae. They're not going to let you in a place like that. You are more help here, but..." He trailed off.

"What?" It was his turn to shift, though his was much more awkward and uncomfortable.

"I can't stop thinking about the way you had treated Metatron. You...sympathized him."

"And is that wrong?" I asked.

"No, no. I won't blame you for feeling bad, though I do believe he was reaching out to you to help him, causing your emotions to feel distraught and upset. But there was something he whispered to you when you approached him," Cas paused to glance at me before repeating the words, "Like calls to like."

"So you're suggesting I'm not human?" I mused.

"He is an angel, Rae. What else could it mean?"

"I don't know." I sighed. "Listen, there's this thing that kicks in whenever I'm in danger, like serious danger. When I first was put into this timeline, and that demon was chasing me, he was using this thing that made my head hurt, and this power kicked in. Or when Dean was attacking all those people, and I was scared. It kicked in there as well. " I said, waving my hand in the air, as if I could show Cas what power I was talking about. "It was such a rush, like once I let it take control, I could feel it fill up my entire body. It heals everything, too. It fixed my clothes and boots, and it made Dean stop his rampage. But the weirdest thing is that whenever I use it, all I see is blue."

"Blue?" He asked.

"Blue." I confirmed. There was a silence again.

"It sounds like," Cas started, "the same thing new angels go through, being unable to control their own power. There are normally kept in Heaven until they have full control of it."

"So there is angel in me?" I asked, thinking of the possibility. Would that mean..? "Okay, wait. My dad is for sure human. But I never knew my mother, and I don't think my dad or uncle really knew who she was either. I'm pretty sure I was a product of an one night stand..."

"You don't know?"

"My father left shortly after my mother did. I never truly knew either of them. My uncle, who was my dad's brother, knew my dad though. If he was anything besides human, my uncle would have told me." Cas nodded.

"So that means you are half."

"Half-angel, half-human?"

"A nephaleam. Metatron's assumptions were right."

"Wait. Metatron talked to you about me? Why?"

"It seems he knows who you are, but not what you are or what you're capable of. I believe it frightened him. He knows all."

"So I frighten the big guy. Hilarious. Back to what I was saying earlier. Do you think it's possible my mother is an angel?"

"No, it's not 'possible.' She has to be an angel, or you wouldn't have your-" He slammed on the brakes suddenly. My face nearly connected with the dash, the only thing saved me was the seat belt locking in place, so I probably had whiplash instead.

"Cas!" I said, giving him a dirty look.

"Sorry, I," He paused to squint at the distance, "I feel him here."

"Well, pull the car over to the curb and we'll search around. You can't park here." I said. Cas did so and we got out. As soon as I stepped out, I felt it. There was something unfamiliar, something wrong in the air around us. I looked over at Cas and he nodded.

"Cain." He muttered, and took off into the woods. I followed, unsure. The further we walked into the woods, the heavier the wrongness felt. The forest was dense, mostly pine, but had a couple of other trees scattered here and there. Because of all the pines, the ground was soft from layers of pine needles. The air, besides being wrong, was cool and crisp. I looked around, making sure to keep a reasonable distance behind Cas, not wanting to accidentally stumble upon something without him.

"Cas. Over there." I said, pointing to the right. There was a large break in trees, as if someone had cleared them out. Cas nodded and I followed him, right into a giant graveyard. We stood there in absolute silence. I tried to count them all, but got too distraught after I passed 50.

"Rae." Cas said sharply, causing me to look at him. He was staring behind me, so I slowly turned.

There stood Cain.

"Don't." He said as I reached for my angel blade, "or you will join them."

I put my arm down and stood very, very still. He turned towards us, nothing but coldness in his eyes. He briefly glanced over me before addressing Cas,

"Toting around children? No matter. What you've seen will soon be known world wide."

"What are you doing?" Cas growled. Cain let out a heartless laugh.

"Purifying the world." When neither of us said anything, he kept going, "When Abaddon's army came after me, I felt something I haven't felt in a long time. It took me a moment to place the feeling, but I figured it out. It was hunger. For blood. The Mark was hungry, and it's my responsibility to feed it. What better blood to feed it than my own?" He motioned to the endless graves around us.

"These...are your descendants." Cas whispered. Cain smiled.

"Two birds with one stone: I'm ridding the world of my blood while keeping the Mark satisfied."

"Why?" I whispered, horrified. "Why kill all these innocent people?"

"It's the only reasonable solution!" It wasn't, but I wasn't going to be the one to tell him otherwise. "Besides, not all of my descendants were innocent. While not all of them were killers, a good deal were. I'm helping the world." Cain said. He took out a knife and, before I could move, was standing in front of me. However, his eyes were locked on Cas. He pointed the knife at me.

"Now allow me to strike you a deal. You're going to let me walk out of here with no trouble, and I'll let the girl live. One wrong move from either of you, and the girl will die." I glanced over at Cas, who shifted. I didn't think I could take Cain, and I didn't want to try. After glancing between the two of us, Cas muttered a 'fine,' causing Cain to smile once more.

"I thought so." He said, moving the knife away from my neck and backing away. He only took a couple of steps before he disappeared completely. I let out the breath I was holding and shook my head.

"All of his descendants. What does that mean for Dean?" I asked Cas.

"I don't know, but we need to head back. Now."

I know, I know. It's been forever since I've uploaded. I'm sorry to have let you all down haha. But alas, I am back, and I'm going to try my best to update more often. I tend to go off and on with the TV series, so just bear with me there. I really don't care to participate in the filler episodes, so expect those to be skipped.

Hope you enjoyed the chapter!

Until Next Time!
