A Reason to Live

Chapter Nineteen

Meeting the Family

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha.

The trio, of Sango, Bankotsu, and Inuyasha, made their way to the Bone Eater's Well. No one seemed to be in an overly talkative mood as they came upon the gateway to Kagome's time. "Are you sure we have to be holding onto a sacred jewel shard in order to pass through," Bankotsu questioned, revealing his nervousness of using one of the beautiful shards. "I mean, you are able to pass through without a shard right, Inuyasha?"

"That is true, but I think it is only because Kagome released me from the Sacred Tree, which still exists in her time as well as this time," Inuyasha supplied. "However, for you and Sango, I believe that you will need a jewel shard."

"Maybe this is not such a good idea," Bankotsu called as he slowly began to back away from the well. 'What is wrong with me? Why am I acting so afraid of the damn jewel? Well that is easy to answer idiot. I am afraid that it will turn me back into the old me! Damn it! That stupid dog is smirking at me!'

"Is the feared leader of the Band of Seven scared of time travel," Inuyasha questioned as he smirked at Bankotsu, who was now fuming.

"You idiot; I am not afraid of anything," Bankotsu snarled as he got in Inuyasha's face. "I just… " Bankotsu huffed as he snatched the jewel shard from Inuyasha, and flung himself into the well.

"That idiot; what does he think he is doing throwing himself into the well before me," Inuyasha exclaimed as he handed Sango her shard, and pulled her into the well with him.

"Bankotsu," a voice called inside of the mercenaries mind. "Have you decided to take me back?"

'Damn it! The shard is talking to me again,' Bankotsu thought as he tried to push the voice out of his mind. 'Leave me alone! I do not want or need your help you stupid jewel!'

"Bankotsu; why so mean," the voice called as the shard pulsed in his hand. "Don't you want the amazing power that I can give you once more?"

"I SAID NO," Bankotsu exclaimed as he appeared at the bottom of the well, with a shocked Inuyasha and Sango standing beside him.

"We did not even say anything to you idiot," Inuyasha stated as he snatched the jewel shard from Bankotsu's hand.

"Who is down there," a voice called from above the trio. The voice was that of an old man with long gray hair, tied back into a ponytail.

"Yo old man," Inuyasha called as he jumped out of the well. "I brought some friends to come and visit Kagome."

"You brought friends," the old man, who was Kagome's grandfather, called as he peered into the well, seeing Bankotsu helping Sango up and out of the well. "Well, hello there. I am Kagome's grandfather." The elderly man extended his hand to Sango, to help her out of the well. Sango took his hand, and pulled herself out of the well, followed by Bankotsu, who simply jumped up onto the edge of the well, hitting his head on the roof.

"Owwww, damn it that hurt," Bankotsu exclaimed as he held his head.

"What are you guys doing here," Kagome's voice nearly shrieked in everyone's ears. "How did you get here!? Inuyasha, I know you had something to do with this! You stupid dog, SIT!"

Instantly Inuyasha's face was planted into the floor of the small enclosure. "Damn it Kagome, that really hurt," Inuyasha exclaimed.

"Well it serves you right," Kagome exclaimed as she glared at the half-demon. "I told you I have to study for one of the most important tests in my life, and you decide to bring everyone from the Feudal Era to my time!"

"It is not all Inuyasha's fault," Sango supplied as she bowed to Kagome. "I begged him to bring us over so we could see your world. I am sorry Kagome. If you must punish someone, please punish me, and not Inuyasha."

Kagome stopped her rant, and gazed over at Sango. "Oh Sango, I am sorry. I did not know that you had a desire to see my time," Kagome exclaimed as she took Sango's hand. "Come on, I will show you around, and when I get done with this test, I will take you shopping at the mall."

"What is this 'mall'," Sango questioned as she allowed herself to be dragged off by a suddenly excited Kagome.

"Oh Sango, you will just love it in this time," Kagome squealed as she took Sango into her house.

"Why do I feel like such an outcast right now," Bankotsu questioned as he stood next to a hunched over Inuyasha.

"Hmph. I don't know what goes through mind," Inuyasha said as he made his way out of the well house.

"Inuyasha, you are back," a young boy exclaimed as he came rushing out of the house. "I am so glad to see you, and is this Miroku?"

"I am not that stupid…," Bankotsu began, but was silenced as Inuyasha punched him in the jaw.

"Do not snap at Sota," Inuyasha yelled. "He has never met anyone from the Feudal Era, except for me."

"Why you stupid dog; you actually hit me," Bankotsu exclaimed as he glared at Inuyasha.

"And if you be mean to Sota again, you will get worse from Kagome," Inuyasha retorted, causing Bankotsu to go ghostly white.

"Sorry little man. I did not know you were Kagome's kid brother," Bankotsu supplied.

"It is alright," Sota said giving the mercenary his biggest smile. "I am Sota. It is a pleasure to meet you…"

"I am Bankotsu."

"Wait, aren't you the one who was the leader of the Band of Seven," Sota asked as he took a step back.

"That was a lifetime ago," Bankotsu said as he knelt in front of the young boy. "I guess you could say I am one of the good guys now."

"Hmph! Good guy my ass," Inuyasha supplied.

"What did you say ass breathe," Bankotsu snapped.

"What did you just call me you walking corpse," Inuyasha roared.

"You heard me flea bag," Bankotsu hissed.

'Wow, he is just as short tempered as Inuyasha,' Sota thought as he slowly began to walk away. 'They could be at it for hours.'

Inside of the house, Kagome had dragged Sango up to her room, and was showing the demon slayer all of her different clothes. "Wow Kagome, this time period has some amazing clothing," Sango stated as she ran her hand over one of Kagome's silken skirts. "A little provocative, but still very amazing."

"You have seen nothing yet Sango," Kagome supplied in an excited voice. "When we go to the mall tomorrow, I will get you a few outfits of your own. So you can impress Bankotsu."

As Kagome finished her statement, Sango began to blush a deep crimson. "Umm, Kagome, can I ask you something," Sango asked as the blush took over her entire face.

"Sure Sango," Kagome supplied as she came to sit right in front of the demon slayer.

"Is it bad if you kiss someone b efore you are married," Sango asked as she looked down at her hands.

'Oh my; I forget so often that Sango is not a young woman from our time, but actually a young woman in the feudal era. Times are so different now compared to back then,' Kagome thought to herself before answering Sango. "No it is not Sango. In this time, it is not uncommon for a young woman to have kissed a young man before being married. Actually now that I think about it, it is not uncommon for a young woman to have had sex with a young man before getting married in these times." As she finished speaking, even Kagome had a deep blush.

"Who said anything about that," Sango exclaimed as she covered her face with her hands.

"Well why do you ask Sango," Kagome questioned as she tried to look past Sango's hands.

"I suppose I should tell you before we get back to Kaede's village," Sango said as she lowered her hands, the blush still coloring her face. "When Inuyasha walked you back to the Bone Eater's Well, Bankotsu and I kind of had a talk that ended up becoming very heated, and in the end, he kissed me."

Kagome squealed in excitement. "Oh Sango, that is great," Kagome exclaimed as she took Sango's hand. "So how was it? What did it feel like? Was it as amazing as you thought it would be?"

"Kagome, Kagome, slow down a second. It kind of took me off guard, but it did feel… well it felt good, and I never really put much thought into what my first kiss would feel like," Sango supplied as she looked down at her hands.

"Sango, that is so amazing," Kagome supplied as she hugged the confused demon slayer. "I am so happy for you!" Sango hugged Kagome back tightly, glad to have such a good friend.

"Kagome, you are the best friend I have ever had," Sango said as she felt tears slipping from her eyes. 'Despite the problems that she has with Inuyasha, and her feelings for him, she still is happy for me. However, I should have told her that Bankotsu was simply trying to make a point, and was not actually declaring his love for me.'

"Sango, you are my best friend as well," Kagome said as she released the hug, and wiped tears from her eyes.

"Kagome, why are you crying," Sango questioned as she squeezed Kagome's hands lightly.

"I am just so happy for you Sango. I am glad you have found someone special," Kagome said as she wiped her tears away. "I am sorry for making you worry Sango."

"Don't apologize," Sango said. "It makes me feel special to have friends as wonderful as you, Inuyasha, Shippo, and Bankotsu."

That night, Sango slept in Kagome's room with the priestess. Bankotsu and Inuyasha were forced to sleep in the living room, with Sota sneaking down to sleep beside the two warriors. That was exactly how Kagome's mother found everyone the next morning when she woke everyone for breakfast.

"Something smells amazing," Inuyasha said as a small amount of drool leaked down the side of his mouth.

"Just because you are a dog demon, does not mean you have to act like a mutt," Bankotsu supplied as he sat at the table, waiting for the girls to come join them.

"What did you say to me, you walking pile of bones," Inuyasha sneered as he flexed a claw.

"You heard me, ass-breathe," Bankotsu said under his breathe.

"That is enough boys," Kagome's mother called as she placed food on the table. "I will not tolerate fighting at the table."

"Yes ma'am," the two warriors said as they bowed their head in a dejected fashion.

"Wow, mom can be even scarier than Kagome, while still maintaining a sweet face," Sota said to no one in particular.

"You can say that again," the two warriors agreed as they nodded their heads.
