Chapter 10: The Beginning of the End, Part 2

Washington DC, 2491: Congressman Crespi stared at the resolution that stood before him. He stared at it. It was the resolution to give a vote of no Confidence in Lex Luthor IV, the current President of the United States.

"What's the problem Frank," Susan Morris asked as she walked in the Congressional hearing that would be starting in 30 minutes.

"Not wild about this resolution that the people of New York wanted to be brought before this Congress. I'm not wild about a clone from 3 centuries ago in control of these United States," Frank Crespi said. Congresswoman Morris smiled.

"I'm not either. Superman and his allies gave us some credible evidence as to Lex's being cloned. But if this resolution is what people want. It seems every state in the Union has turned in similar resolutions so we have to look into it," Congresswoman Morris said.

"Do we have anyone that would represent Lex?" Congressman Brown said as he walked up.

"Lex's head of security is on his way," Congressman Crespi said.

"What about the opposition?" Congressman Crespi asked. She turned toward Batman and Hannah Melvin, who represented the Rebellion.

"How did Lex clone himself," Congressman Brown asked.

"LuthorCorp." Hannah said tossing down files she downloaded from LuthorCorp's computers. In those files were pictures of cloning cylinders that had been there since the early to mid 2000's.

"Do any of you remember reading about Darkseid? He had taken possession of Lionel Luthor during that time. Superman had freed Lionel from Darkseid's possession, and these were built sometime after that event," Hannah said.

"Who's going to chair this session?" another congressman asked. Congressman Crespi spoke up.

"Speaker Catherine Mills will chair this since the Vice-President has been arrested along with President Luthor. It seems Catherine Sims, our Vice-President was caught sleeping with Lex, and so she was arrested as a co-conspirator. Both sides will give testimony. Mason has agreed to represent President Luthor. Who will represent the rebellion?" Congressman Crespi said. Superman flew in through an open window and landed. The young man landed.

"I will represent the rebellion. Trinity Jean Knight was supposed to, but she is running a little late. We've got some more footage recently uncovered that we will present," Superman said. In walked the older version of Superman in his civilian disguise of Clark Kent, but this "Clark Kent" had changed his name to Chris Thomas who worked as a reporter for an online newspaper.

"Mr. Thomas, good to see you," Superman said shaking his older self's hand.

"Good to see you too, Superman," He said.

"You've got 5 minutes, folks," Congressman Crespi said. Both sides sat down as Congressman Robbins spoke to call the special session into order.

"Who is to represent The President?" Congresswoman Mills asked after Congressman Robbins made introductions. Mason stood up and introduced himself and his lawyer. Congresswoman Mills then nodded to Superman and Trinity Jean Knight, who acted as Superman's lawyer.

"Who are you?" Congresswoman Mills asked. Superman stared at her respectfully then turned for the rest of Congress to see.

"I am Kal-El of Krypton. I am Superman as the world knew me. I was stopped by Lex Luthor years ago after he put the Vigilante Registration Act into play. He knew how and when to stop me. He sent in a strike team to my adopted parents' farm where I lived, and they used gold Kryptonite to stop me. Lex thought there was nothing recording these events. There weren't any news holo-cameras but there was a Knight Industries Technology satellite above and it recorded the whole event using infrared and X-ray mode to record the event. It also took a scan of our elusive President who was at the location waiting to hear that Superman had been rendered powerless. The satellite also took a scanned of our President on a genetic level. This information Trinity Jean Knight, CEO of Knight Industries Technology saved on her private server and my team recently discovered that our Current President is merely a clone of a Lex Luthor from 3 centuries ago. I should know. I was there," Superman said.

"You're telling me you're immortal," Mason joked. Superman nodded.

"My people age a lot slower than humans do, but we still age," Superman said.

"You're a joke, Superman," Mason said. "President Luthor is better than you," Mason added.

"Can President Luthor dodge bullets? Can President Luthor fly? Can He move at super speed? What does Lex have that I don't?" Superman challenged.

"He's smart. He destroyed you," Mason said.

"Not really. He screwed up when He disobeyed the law and cloned himself for the last few centuries. That technology was perfected by my people, but it was never used. My people discovered Earth and your ability to reproduce. We've been visiting Earth for Centuries past, so we adopted your religious, political and other ways to bring my home planet to yours. We discovered Earth in the year 1774, two years before the Revolutionary war," Superman said.

"How do we know you're not a clone," Mason challenged.

"Mr. Stone, that's enough. We've got enough for a vote. & we'll reveal that here in a minute," Congressman Phillips said. Lex was brought in and Congressman Philips gestured to Speaker Catherine Mills as she gestured to one of the police officers to remove Lex's handcuffs.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are here to discuss a resolution in regards to you, Mr. Luthor," Speaker Mills said.

"I'm still the President," Lex said defiantly.

"Your family knowingly violated anti-cloning laws and have held power for the last 300 years and in addition you killed an alien who has lived among us for the last 300 years as well. You waged a war to protect a secret and strip him of his God given powers and to lie to the American people," Speaker Mils said.

"The United States needed a strong leader. I am that leader," Lex said defiantly.

"The Office of The President has been tainted by your family so you have been stripped of your office just as you tried to strip Superman's powers," Speaker Mills said.

"My President did what he did for the American people. He hid nothing," Mason said.

"Oh really, Mr. Stone? Every satellite shut down on the allegedly terrorist superman on the Kent farm 5 years ago? And the only one operable was both a Knight Industries Technology & Wayne Enterprises satellites were the only two companies with satellites functioning at the time? I find your reasoning very arrogant," Speaker Mills challenged.

"So what is the charge, Speaker Mills?" Chris Thomas asked. She gestured to Lex.

"Mr. Luthor we find a vote of no confidence in you as President of the United States and since you're a clone of a man who died 3 centuries ago, we sentence you to death, Mr. Luthor," Speaker Mills said.

Superman spoke up. "Madame Speaker, If I may offer an alternate punishment," He said. She stared at him.

"What alternate punishment is that?" She asked.

"My biological Father, Jor-El of Krypton discovered a place called The Phantom Zone where we would imprison Krypton's criminals. They live a life but in a state of having no physical body. They can see and live in a parallel reality where they can live," Superman said. He then removed a Phantom Zone Projector and placed it on the podium.

"And it would be better than death?" Speaker Mills asked. Kal-El nodded.

"It's a chance at life, something we believed in. According to ancient Kryptonian records recorded by Major Ephraim Zod my people did not believe in capital punishment, so this place was discovered by The House Of El some 25 years before Krypton's destruction and all of our enemies both from Krypton and the 28 known galaxies were imprisoned there. I would want nothing less for Lex. At least he won't harm anyone," Superman said.

"Anyone in this Council chamber have any objections to Superman's suggestion other than the accused?" Speaker Mills said. No one spoke up, and she nodded at Superman.

"I am Kal-El of Krypton and this is my sacred duty as a member of The House of El to cherish life even if the person charged is an enemy. As any and all criminals imprisoned before you, do you have anything to say before I pass sentence and send you where you will live eternally?" Superman asked. Lex stared at him.

"I have nothing to say to you, you son of a bitch," Lex said. He then ran toward the Man of Steel, but Superman pressed a button on The Projector and Lex was gone, displaced in another dimension.

"Mason Stone, you will be given a life sentence with no hope of parole," Speaker Mills said.

"I don't think so," Mason said as He removed his Pulse gun, and he fired off a shot, but a Taser powered Batarang knocked the weapon out of his hand.

"Thank God for you, Batman," Speaker Mills said, and Terry McGinnis, Batman, nodded.

"We'll hold elections once we've arrested anyone who got Lex elected," Speaker Mills said.

"Good," Superman said.

"Now can we go home," Hannah Melvin spoke up as she walked in.

"Yes, you are free to leave," Speaker Mills said.

"To the Batcave," Bruce Wayne said.
