Touma found himself in a place where reality twisted and warped with each passing moment. The air was heavy with an eerie silence, broken only by the distant sound of echoing footsteps. He looked around, his heart pounding in his chest, as a sense of impending doom settled over him.
Suddenly, Othinus materialized before him, her presence radiating malevolence. Her eyes glowed with a cold, sinister light. A wicked smile played on her lips as she raised her hand, and in an instant, countless spears materialized in the air, hovering ominously.
Touma's eyes widened in horror as he realized what was about to happen. The spears descended upon him, piercing his body from every angle. He screamed in agony as pain engulfed him, his vision blurring with each excruciating moment. But to his horror, the nightmare did not end there.
As the spears withdrew, Touma fell to his knees, gasping for breath. But before he could gather his bearings, Othinus's hand extended towards him again, and this time, a torrent of flames erupted from her palm. The searing heat consumed Touma, turning his skin to ashes and leaving only charred remnants of his former self.
Yet, the nightmare persisted. Touma's body regenerated, only to be subjected to another round of torment. Othinus conjured storms that raged around him, unleashing torrents of lightning that struck him with merciless precision. Each strike seared his flesh and sent waves of excruciating pain coursing through his body.
With each death, Touma's fear and despair grew, but the nightmare refused to release its grip. Othinus unleashed a barrage of dark energy that engulfed him, suffocating him in an abyss of despair. Shadows writhed and twisted around him, whispering cruel taunts and reminding him of his powerlessness.
Touma's body, battered and broken, stood on the precipice of oblivion. With his last ounce of strength, he pleaded one final time, his voice barely a whisper.
"Give my world back to me." With a swift motion of her sword, Othinus slashed Touma into a million pieces.
Touma's eyes shot open, his body drenched in a cold sweat as he gasped for air. He frantically looked around, trying to orient himself in the familiar surroundings of his bathroom. "Everything is fine," he repeated to himself, trying to calm his racing heart. He took deep, calming breaths, grounding himself in the reality that surrounded him. With each reassurance, the weight of the nightmare began to lift. To regain control of his thoughts, he decided to focus on something familiar and comforting: making breakfast.
As he stood in the kitchen, preparing breakfast, his mind drifted back to the events that had unfolded during his journey to Denmark. The memories seemed almost surreal now, as if they belonged to a distant dream. He had embarked on a mission to save Othinus, a terrorist in the world's eyes, whom they deemed to be an evil being that needed to be eradicated for their own happiness.
But Touma rejected that idea, refusing to believe that someone's smile had to be sacrificed for the world to find happiness. So he stood up against the world, even those who were once his allies, to fight for the girl who had tormented him in infinite hells and almost shattered him. He fought against the world to save the smile of a single girl, and against all odds, they had succeeded. Othinus was saved, her life-threatening injury healed, and the world granted her another chance to live the life she had always desired, as a human.
As the dust settled and normalcy began to reclaim its place, Touma returned to his everyday life. His first task, as always, was to confront his perennial financial struggles, which would now prove even more challenging with Othinus, the being who had once threatened the very fabric of reality, as his roommate. She would be living with him and attending his school as part of her punishment, to observe the human life she had once sought to destroy.
Touma was tasked with looking after her, knowing that he would be held responsible if she ever caused harm. Touma found himself unsure of how to feel about this arrangement, torn between finding amusement in the absurdity of it all and cursing his bad luck, as he often did.
"Such misfortune," Touma muttered to himself.
"Is that how you start your day, human?" a voice called out to him. He glanced towards what was supposed to be his bed and saw two figures. One was a silver-haired girl, peacefully asleep, and the other was a girl with golden hair, her right eye covered by a black patch. She gazed at Touma from the bed.
"If you're awake, then help me out, Othinus," Touma said.
"I don't want to," she replied playfully, closing her eyes as if to pretend to sleep.
"Come on, Othinus. At this rate, we're going to be late for school, and with my bad luck, it's almost guaranteed," Touma pleaded with the former god of war.
"Not my problem," Othinus responded nonchalantly. Touma sighed in defeat.
The silver-haired girl's nose twitched as she caught the scent of the delicious breakfast Touma had just prepared, awakening her from her slumber.
"Touma, where's my breakfast?" the silver-haired girl asked, still half-asleep. Touma sighed at her usual antics.
"It'll be ready in a few minutes."
"But I'm hungry."
"I'm getting hungry too, human."
"Then help me, you freeloaders!" Touma yelled at them.
Touma finally arrived at the school gates, feeling a sense of relief that he had made it despite the various misfortunes he had encountered along the way. He had been chased by a stray dog, tripped and stumbled into a group of delinquents, and even managed to get drenched by a passing car splashing through a puddle. It was one of those mornings where his luck seemed determined to test him at every turn.
As Touma stepped into the classroom, his classmate Fukiyose Seiri approached him, a slightly annoyed expression on her face. She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Kamijou, why are you late again? You always seem to have an excuse for your tardiness."
Touma let out a sigh, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "Believe me, Fukiyose, it's not an excuse. I encountered some really unlucky situations on my way here. A stray dog chased after me, and I accidentally stumbled into a group of delinquents who weren't too happy about it. And then, to top it off, a passing car splashed water all over me."
Fukiyose Seiri's eyes narrowed, skepticism evident on her face. "Really, Kamijou? It's always something with you and your 'misfortune.' I think you just use it as a convenient excuse to hide your own mistakes and irresponsibility."
Touma's frustration lingered as he prepared himself to respond to Fukiyose Seiri's accusations, but before he could say a word, Othinus interjected. Her voice, calm and composed, cut through the tension in the air.
"Perhaps you should cut him some slack," Othinus said, her hands gently wrapping around Touma's, creating an unexpected physical connection between them. Touma glanced at Othinus, surprised by her sudden intervention.
Fukiyose's eyes narrowed at the sight, a hint of annoyance flickering across her face. However, she chose to ignore it and focused on Othinus's words. "But if we let Touma go on as he pleases, won't he just continue to commit the same mistakes?"
Othinus gazed directly at Fukiyose, her expression unwavering. "And why do you want him to improve so badly? If you truly can't stand him, as you often claim, then perhaps it would be better for you to leave him alone."
Fukiyose's brow furrowed as Othinus's words echoed in her mind. She pondered the question, searching for a satisfactory answer. Why did she feel the need to push Touma to improve himself? What was the driving force behind her relentless pursuit of his growth?
Yet, try as she might, Fukiyose couldn't come up with a definitive answer. She realized that she didn't have a clear understanding of her own motivations. Perhaps it was frustration or concern that fueled her actions, but it seemed there was something deeper, something she hadn't yet grasped.
As the conversation between Touma, Othinus, and Fukiyose reached a pause, the sound of the school bell echoed through the corridors, signaling the start of another class. The students quickly made their way to their respective seats, preparing for the lesson ahead.
Just as the classroom began to settle, the door swung open, and a small figure stepped in. The students turned their attention towards the front, where the childlike figure stood confidently on the teacher's podium. It was Tsukuyomi Komoe, the homeroom teacher, known to many as one of the seven wonders of Academy City.
"Okay, students, let's start the class!" Komoe exclaimed in a cheerful, childlike manner.
Despite being an adult, Komoe's diminutive height of 135 centimeters often led people to mistake her for a twelve-year-old child. Her appearance, combined with her childlike voice and mannerisms, perpetuated the misconception. However, her students knew better.
Komoe was adored by her students for her playful nature, but they also recognized her as a highly competent teacher who deeply cared about their well-being and academic growth. Despite her outward childlike demeanor, she had a profound understanding of her role and responsibilities.
Lost in her thoughts, Othinus observed the vibrant classroom, talking in the laughter, teasing, and passionate debates of the students.
"These are the lives which I once sought to destroy, no, I have destroyed it several times for my own selfish wish," she thought about how she had destroyed the world and manipulated it for her own goals. It was only through Touma's intervention that this world was restored.
Glancing across the room, Othinus's gaze fell upon Touma, seated diagonally from her. It had been a month since she had started living with him. With Touma, there was never a dull moment. They had spent what felt like an eternity together in the infinite hells, as Touma called them, where she had relentlessly tried to break him in order to exploit his Imagine Breaker and return to her original world. But deep down, that had never been her true desire.
What Othinus truly longed for was understanding. Someone who could see past her struggles, her pain, and her desires. And she had found that in Touma. Despite her continued to torture Touma in the infinite hells, he had come to comprehend her true self, and in return, Othinus had gained insight into the person Touma truly was. They had become each other's confidants and supporters, their unique bond of understanding forged through the darkest moments they had together. With a small smile tugging at her lips, Othinus shifted her attention back to the classroom.
During lunchtime, Touma found himself surrounded by his notorious friends: Tsuchimikado Motoharu and Aogami Pierce, known as the idiot trio or the Delta Force within the school. Their mischievous reputations often preceded them, as they were notorious troublemakers. Today's topic of discussion revolved around their preferences when it comes to the opposite sex.
Seated at their usual spot, Touma, Tsuchimikado, and Aogami engaged in their absurd conversation, oblivious to the sideways glances and amused whispers from other students who wisely kept a safe distance from the eccentric trio.
"So, Touma, what kind of girl do you like?" Aogami asked.
"Well, I've always had a soft spot for dorm managers," he replied, his voice filled with admiration. "They're mature and understanding, like a big sister who listens to your problems and offers guidance."
Tsuchimikado and Aogami exchanged glances, their eyebrows raised, as they didn't understand Touma's appeal for dorm managers. Tsuchimikado, never one to shy away from expressing his preferences, chimed in, "Little sisters are the best, nya! They're cute, innocent, and always look up to you. You can't beat that kind of adoration!"
Touma rolled his eyes and called Tsuchimikado a "siscon," fully aware of his friend's infatuation with his little stepsister, Maika. Tsuchimikado simply grinned unabashedly, admitting his affection without reservation.
Aogami, the wildcard of the group, interjected with a mischievous smirk. "Well, I personally like every type of girl! I don't discriminate based on appearances or personality. I appreciate the diversity!" His words elicited both amusement and exasperation from Touma and Tsuchimikado.
Touma shook his head, "As expected of the ultimate Fetish King. I don't know how you manage to find something appealing in every girl you come across."
The trio passionately debated the merits of their respective preferences, drawing the attention of a few curious onlookers. Meanwhile, more prudent students kept their distance, instinctively knowing to avoid any association with the notorious trio or risk the wrath of a "Certain Ironwall Girl" whose anger was legendary among the student body.
As their banter continued, the topic shifted to Touma's encounters with girls. Tsuchimikado and Aogami accused Touma of attracting girls effortlessly. "Kamiya, admit it, you have the ability to attract girls left and right!" Tsuchimikado declared.
"Yeah, Touma, you're always complaining about your bad luck, but when it comes to girls, you're a magnet for them!" Aogami said, fueling the fire.
Touma scoffed, crossing his arms defensively. "Come on, guys, it's not like the girls actually like me. It's just my misfortune causing all these bizarre encounters. Trust me, they end up hating me in the end."
Tsuchimikado raised an eyebrow, challenging Touma's self-perception. "Do you really believe that?"
Aogami spotted a girl passing by and decided to put Touma's claim to the test. He quickly approached her and asked, "Hey, excuse me! What do you think of Touma here?"
The girl's eyes met Touma's, and her cheeks immediately flushed with a deep shade of red. Overwhelmed with embarrassment, she stuttered a few words before hastily running away.
Tsuchimikado and Aogami witnessed the full effect of Kami-yan disease in disbelief. Touma stood there, surrounded by an aura of
gloom. "She... she was so angry at me that her face turned red, and she ran away in disgust!" Touma exclaimed, his voice tinged with confusion and a hint of self-deprecation.
Aogami's frustration reached its peak as he grabbed Touma by the collar. "Are you mocking us commoners? While we struggle to get even a single girl to like us, you can effortlessly capture any girl's heart without even trying!"
Confusion washed over Touma's face as he struggled to make sense of Aogami's outburst. "What are you talking about?"
Meanwhile, Tsuchimikado rallied a group of male students nearby, exaggerating playfully. "Listen up, everyone! If we let Kami-yan continue to do as he pleases, he'll conquer every girl in the school and leave nothing for the rest of us!"
The male students, fueled by the fear of losing potential romantic connections, eagerly joined Tsuchimikado's cause, creating an uproar as they shouted their support and made exaggerated gestures.
Caught in the midst of the brewing chaos, the cafeteria suddenly erupted into pandemonium as someone impulsively threw their food at another person. The recipient retaliated by launching their own food projectile, and chaos ensued. Food flew through the air, creating a comical scene of flying meals.
Meanwhile, Tsuchimikado and Aogami skillfully maneuvered themselves beneath a nearby table, watching with amusement as the scene unfolded, enjoying the chaos they had inadvertently incited.
The food fight continued, escalating into a messy spectacle as students from all corners of the cafeteria joined in. The once orderly lunchtime gathering had transformed into a riotous display of food warfare, with students ducking for cover, slipping on the remnants of spilled drinks, and exchanging playful taunts.
"STOP!" a loud and commanding voice boomed through the room, demanding an end to the madness. All eyes turned towards the source of the voice, and a collective gulp resonated through the students. It was Fukiyose Seiri, the formidable Iron Wall Girl, standing at the entrance with a stern expression.
Her gaze swept across the scene, taking in the messy aftermath of the food fight. Fury emanated from her as her body trembled with anger. With a resolute step forward, she asked in a voice laced with controlled rage, "Who is responsible for this?"
The students, realizing the gravity of the situation, quickly shuffled and cast fearful glances at one another. In a unanimous decision, they pushed Touma to the forefront, leaving him to face Fukiyose's wrath.
"Why me?" Touma protested, bewildered, asking why he was being singled out.
"So it's you, Kamijou. I should've known," her voice was filled with a potent combination of fury and disappointment.
"No, wait, Fukiyose. It was not me who started this mess. It was Tsuchimikado and Aogami," he attempted to explain that he hadn't started the mess, pointing towards Tsuchimikado and Aogami as the culprits. However, much to Touma's dismay, both Tsuchimikado and Aogami had already fled the cafeteria, leaving him to face the consequences alone.
With a resigned sigh, Touma muttered to himself, "Such misfortune."
Fukiyose narrowed her eyes, and her hand clenched into a fist. In an explosive display of strength, she delivered a powerful punch that sent Touma soaring into the air, his body spiraling before crashing to the floor. Stars danced around his head as he lay dazed and disoriented.
Standing over him, Fukiyose ordered, "You have until evening to clean the entire cafeteria
, got it." The weight of her words settled heavily on Touma as he realized the daunting task that lay ahead of him.
Touma muttered to himself, "Just another day in the life of Kamijou Touma."
As evening settled in, Touma finished cleaning up the cafeteria and made his way back to the classroom to retrieve his bag. He pushed open the door and was greeted by the sight of Othinus sitting alone in the room. The warm glow of the setting sun cast an orange hue that enhanced Othinus' beauty.
"You took forever to arrive here?" Othinus remarked.
"I had to clean up the cafeteria all by myself," Touma replied, slightly exasperated.
"You wouldn't be in this trouble if you hadn't engaged in useless conversations," Othinus said with a hint of exasperation.
Touma retorted, "How can discussing one's preferences in girls be deemed useless?"
Othinus let out a sigh, silently thinking that while Touma was a good person, he could also be quite foolish at times.
"We should get going before that nun goes on a rampage because of hunger," she suggested. Touma agreed, picking up his bag in preparation to leave.
As they walked together, their path intersected with a girl sporting long, lavender hair adorned with ringlet curls. She was wearing the unmistakable uniform of Tokiwadai Middle School. Touma instinctively took a step back upon spotting the uniform, knowing all too well the troublesome encounters he had with students from Tokiwadai. The girl noticed Touma and Othinus.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for a student named Kumokawa Seria. Can you tell me where I could find her?" asked the girl. Touma recognized the name as one of his senpais. Curiosity piqued, he wondered why a student from Tokiwadai would be seeking out Kumokawa-senpai.
"Sure, I could lead you to her," Touma said.
As Touma, Othinus, and Hokaze Junko walked towards Kumokawa Seria's room, Hokaze took the initiative to introduce herself.
"My name is Hokaze Junko," she said. Touma nodded in acknowledgment.
"I'm Kamijou Touma, and this is Othinus," he gestured towards Othinus, who simply waved her hand nonchalantly.
Hokaze's eyes widened with surprise upon hearing Touma's name. Curious about her reaction, Touma asked, "Is something wrong?" Hokaze hesitated for a moment, then replied, "Your name is quite famous in our school." Touma blinked in confusion, unable to comprehend why his name would be famous. Othinus let out a sigh, familiar with Touma's usual cluelessness.
As they approached Kumokawa Seria's room, Touma asked, "It's regarding the queen of my clique." Touma furrowed his brows, still puzzled. "The queen of your clique?" he repeated. Then, he recalled Misaka complaining about a certain student from her school who referred to her as the queen of Tokiwadai.
"What's her name?" Touma asked for the name of the queen.
"Shokuhou Misaki," Hokaze responded.
Author's Note:
Hello, readers! This is my first Index fanfiction. This story follows after NT volume 10. In this story, Othinus is human, not a fairy. Touma is going to be slightly powerful but not OP.
