My Roommate is into Mr. Darcy

It didn't feel particularly late, but the sun setting indicated that it was well into the evening. Ludwig checked his watch again, certain that he was indeed on time. He waited a little longer before knocking on the door in front of him again. Still no answer, and just when he was about to go home, Matthias' car pulled up in the driveway, the Dane giving him a sheepish look once he passed him.

"Sorry, man, I got caught in traffic." Matthias apologized, fishing his keys from his pockets. "It was crazy out there."

Ludwig nodded, taking his friend's words as truth. He had no reason to believe otherwise as he was let in. He'd been here many times, so finding the kitchen, where Matthias was most likely to request they sit, was easy. As expected, the man made a beeline toward his refrigerator, digging around while Ludwig made himself comfortable at the kitchen table.

"What's this thing you wanted to talk to me about?" Matthias asked, presenting Ludwig with a beer and continued to busy himself around the kitchen.

Ludwig straightened a bit, holding the beer casually. "I wish to apologize for my behavior the other day. I was out of line and you were right."

Matthias snorted, though not in a mean sort of way, and retrieved two saucers from his cupboard. "I'm not the one who needs an apology. You didn't know. What are friends for but to hit you over the head when you're doing something stupid?"

Germany nodded lamely. He'd never quite been one for making stimulating conversation and he was hardly graceful when it came to repairing an embarrassingly awkward situation. He settled for watching his friend cut two generous sized portions of a chocolate cake and carry them over to the table.

"Don't be so stiff," Matthias reprimanded and sat down across from him. "We've had arguments before. You've been wrong before."

"I just…"Ludwig looked down at his cake. "I always thought it was you she liked."

When Matthias laughed, loud and hard, Ludwig looked up at his friend who had a mouthful of cake. "Me? Come on, look at you the broody type. You're a modern-day 'Mr. Darcy'. Such a stud muffin."

Ludwig looked away uncomfortably, as if to dissociate himself from his tablemate after being compared to a novel character. Perhaps he should take it was a compliment? Since he hadn't exactly brushed up on his knowledge of Jane Austen books in years (it was school related the first time!), Ludwig wasn't quite sure how to take it.

The Dane gaily went on, oblivious to his companion's discomfort: " You have that whole awkward emotional but loyal thing going for you too! You shouldn't sell yourself short. I mean yeah, I kinda thought well maybe we could try something, An'na and me, for a time. But, it was obvious she had goo goo eyes for you. Besides, we work better as friends anyway."

When Matthias took a swig of beer, Ludwig was grateful that it stopped him from naming all of those 'stud muffin' qualities. But he nodded stiffly at the supposed compliments and ate his cake satisfied that a friendship wasn't ruined because of his oversight.

"Have you talked to her yet?" Matthias asked.

Ludwig nodded. "Something to that effect, yes."

His friend grinned, shaking his head knowingly. "A plan, then?"

"More or less…" It wasn't even if he had a plan at this point. For Ludwig, it was more of wondering if the plan he chose was the right one.

"Joys of life, eh?" Matthias joked, carrying his now empty plate to the sink. "You staying for dinner or what? I could use the company."

It was a request that Ludwig easily obliged.

A/N: So...I just watched Pride and Prejudice for the bizillionth time...so what? Lol. Come on, you have to totally see the resemblance between these two! Dacry's all emotional awkward, seen as mean and a bit shy in front of strangers. He totally likes Elizabeth but doesn't know to say it but when he says it he totally means in! Okay...sorry for those who haven't watch the movie or read the book. I just totally spoiled it!
