My Roommate is

By the time Ludwig realized he'd drifted off, the little jerks and vibrations of the plane forced his eyes open. How long had he been sleeping? Judging by the dim light slanting through the windows, he'd guess at least a few hours. Why so much turbulence? His eyes immediately glanced up where the 'Fasten

Seat belt' sign was illuminated, indicating that he should be wearing one. The plane dipped then jerked back up, only to repeat the process two more times. He could feel the little thumps underneath his seat as if he was in a car riding over a pothole.

His stomach was in knots, and it wasn't from the movements of the plane hitting the ground with a thump, zooming down the runway. Ludwig reached into his pocket, pulling out the address of where he was supposed to go. It felt so heavy in his palm, though it was just a corner of notebook paper. Was he really doing this? Telling her how he truly felt? He was really doing this! Elizaveta had told him to choose, and he had. As the plane started to slow and turn into the terminal port, he only hoped that he'd made the right choice.

Ludwig licked his lips anxiously, and more than a little nervously. The lingering memory of their last interaction made him lick them again as he started toward customs. He only had one bag, a carry-on, so he moved through the line quickly. It wasn't his first time in a foreign country, or in this country, for that matter.

Getting a taxi was even easier. Though Ludwig felt so very German in the way he stayed mostly quiet as the man chatted away. Asking why he'd come and how much he was going to enjoy his stay. Of course, his answers were curt and to the point because Ludwig would much rather not think about what he was doing and whom he was leaving behind. He'd thought about it enough, many times over in fact, that was what had put him to sleep on the plane in the first place.

Upon pulling up in front of what could be assumed as leased accommodations, Ludwig couldn't help but double-check the address, as if the cabbie might have gotten the number wrong. He didn't, and the next moment saw the man getting out of the driver's seat and opening the trunk.

With a breath, Ludwig opened the door, his stomach doing somersaults. The driver planted his bag on the ground next to him, and Ludwig thanked the man in his native language, though heavily accented. He pulled out his wallet, paid the fare, and the man doffed his cap before sliding back behind the wheel. Ludwig looked up at his destination and was dully aware of the cab driving away, the noise of the engine fading from ear. He triple checked the address, and then gathering his courage. He picked up his luggage and went up the walk to the one with the red-painted door and several boxes waiting on the front porch.

Was she not home? There was a car parked on the street so Ludwig assumed that she was. Well, it could have been for anyone really. He stared at the red door for several seconds—minutes—he really didn't know. Once he realized he just how long he was standing there, huffed at his hesitation. He'd come this far; no use in backing down now and swiftly jabbed at the buzzer with his thumb. A moment later, there was a lazy padding of feet, and then the door swung open.

"Oh…" Ludwig said, clearing his throat apologetically at the foreign woman before him. Did he get the wrong address? "My apologizes, I think I may have the wrong address."

The woman beamed a grin at him, opening the door a bit weirder to lean against its post. "You're not from here, are you? Are you lost?"

"I suppose," he presented the paper with the numbers and street name scribble in his penmanship. "I'm looking for a friend."

"Oh my God, I couldn't sleep worth shit, but I'm…so…tired…" Ludwig's eyes snapped up at the familiar whine that fizzled out from the woman who was frozen on the staircase, which had a perfect view of the front door.

The woman at the door looked behind her then back to Ludwig and gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder before stepping out of the way. "I think you found who you were looking for."

"Uh," he's not coming up with any words and the nervous warmth was spreading and it started to burn when he chanced a look at her. An'na didn't move from her spot on the stairs. Her brown eyes were narrowing, sculpted black brows coming down slightly. From all his time with her, he recognized that look as she either didn't believe he was there or didn't understand why he'd come.

"What are you doing here, Ludwig? I thought you were going to the graduation." The question wasn't in any way accusatory. On the contrary, her voice was calm and stable enough to make the German stand a bit straighter with more confidence.

Though awfully embarrassed, he stood almost at attention, shoulders back, ignoring his own nerves and cleared his throat, prepared to launch into the declarative speech he'd been rehearsing on the plane. "Felicia knows I'm here and why I've come, though it took some time for me to realize why I should. Maybe I should have said something at the airport, but what needed to be said should have been said sooner."

"I don't understand…"

"I care about you, An'na. Yes, I had feelings for Felicia for a long time but you were right in saying you won't be second. And you weren't it just took until you said you were leaving to realize it. That was my mis-"

Ludwig hardly had time to blink before An'na rushed down the stairs. Her arms found his neck, his arms her waist and she used the leverage to practically jump him, wrapping those strong little legs around his waist, completely throwing off his perfect posture. The words that he wanted to say didn't make much sense in that moment, not with one hand tangling up behind his head, twisting those smooth, golden strands of his hair while the other feathered over his cheek.

"Took you long enough, jeez," she muttered, trying for sarcasm, but not quite nailing it. Maybe An'na leaned in or maybe Ludwig actually pulled her face closer when his hand finally found the back of her neck. It didn't much matter because their lips found each other. It wasn't ravishing, passionate face-battles right then either. It was kissing. It's lips to skin and tongues barely flicking one another, mouths almost closed just so the sensations are all focused on lips and breaths. They both taste like airlines, cabin pressure and lack of sleep, which wasn't so much a taste as an atmosphere, and it sucked compared to his other memories, but it couldn't negate who they were to one another. It couldn't take away how very real this moment was.

The kisses turned into traded smooches and touches, noses bumping back and forth intimately before they both just kind of fizzled out. An'na was smiling from ear to ear and Ludwig grinning just the same. Somehow his bag got tossed away in the mix, but he didn't bother trying to figure out where he'd tossed it too. He didn't even realize that they were indeed on An'na's front porch sharing such an intimate moment until a round of cheers made both of them turn towards the doorway, where her two new roommates clapped and whistled. Both Ludwig and An'na flushed in embarrassment, and he eased her from his waist until An'na was standing on the ground once again.

"I think," the woman who'd answered the door cooed, "we might have to establish some new house rules since we have a fourth roommate." She looked over An'na's shoulder and gave Ludwig a little wink.

"Only for a little while," he assured but she waved him off dismissively.

"Of course, of course. Now come inside, people don't just standing around kissing each on the porch in Texas! The neighbors will stare! Beside we have to give our new roommate a tour."

'New roommate', huh? Well, those other two may be his temporary roommates, but not An'na.

In the end, An'na was so much more than just a roommate.
