Chapter 45
Remus
What Lily and I were planning was a holiday for the four of us, just so we could all relax in the sun. We arranged it for September – since there would be no school for any of us – and we had decided that Paphos would be a good place to go. We weren't letting James or Sirius know until we had sorted it all out. In the end, they overheard us talking about it, but they didn't hear what it was, only that it was something we were keeping from them. So, Lily and I thought we'd be a little mean. It was fun talking about it around them, but not letting them know what is actually was. It drove them mad! It was really fun.
We were walking through Hogsmead, just me and Sirius. He had been pestering me for the whole day about it. But I had been around him long enough that he couldn't break me easily. And I made sure that if he put on the puppy-dog look that I did not look at him. He got rather frustrated, but didn't give up.
"Why can't you just tell us?" Sirius moaned, as we continued to walk through Hogsmead.
"Because then it won't be a surprise." I grinned.
"Can't you just tell me?"
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
"But..."
"No."
"You're mean."
"But you love me."
I just laughed, walking off as Sirius stood there sulking. Honestly, he was such a big kid. Though I wasn't really helping. But who cares, it was really fun. Did that make me mean? I just grinned to myself as I walked through Hogsmead.
Sirius caught up with me rather quickly. Not that I was surprised about that. He was still pouting like a child having a tantrum...it looked kind of cute. But it wasn't going to break me. Nuh-uh, he wasn't going to win this time.
"Rude bastard, running off and keeping things from me." Sirius muttered.
"Says you." I replied, smiling.
Sirius continued to mutter, but I couldn't understand anything he was saying. I just shook my head, laughing slightly, running a hand through my hair. I glanced to the right, spotting a new shop. It had only opened a few weeks ago. And it was a book shop. I really loved book shops. So, I kind of slipped off again, without Sirius realising. The shop wasn't far from where I was, so it didn't take long to reach the doors of it. I pushed open the door and slid inside. It was a small little place, but nice. The shelves were stacked from floor to ceiling with books. Sure the library at Hogwarts was better, but hey, book shops were great. Smiling slightly, I walked through the shop, stopping to look at each shelf carefully, looking through all the books. I heard the door open again, thanks to the little bell attached to it. I didn't think anything of it, just continued my browsing. Until arms wrapped around my waist from behind.
"Thought you would find this place." Sirius murmured in my ear, placing his chin on my shoulder.
"You knew about it?" I asked.
"Lily and James found it last Hogsmead trip. James said they were still setting up and everything."
"Well, thanks for telling me."
"Hey, I gathered you'd find it on your own. And I was right."
I grinned, chuckling slightly, continuing to look through the books.
About an hour later, Sirius and I had left the book shop. I had a small selection with me, and luckily I had enough for them. We walked round the rest of Hogsmead. Going into Zonkos, Honeydukes and a load of other shops. So, yeah, we went to the usual shops. I think Sirius was happy to leave, since we had been walking around for hours. I mean, come on, he was a lazy mutt. But he was my lazy mutt.
As soon as we entered the dorm, Paddy jumped off of Sirius' bed and came charging at us, running around our feet. I laughed, placing the bags I had on my bed, before picking the tiny dog up. Sirius placed his bags on his bed before lying on his back on the unoccupied part of mine. I looked down at him, shaking my head, as Paddy licked and nudged my face until I payed attention to him. Sirius just laughed as he watched.
"And you used to say I was a demanding dog." he chuckled.
"You still are." I grinned. "Where do you think Paddy gets it from?"
Paddy barked a little, placing his paws on one of my shoulders and pushing himself slightly before panting.
"See, Paddy agrees with me." I laughed.
"Well that's rude." Sirius pouted, crossing his arms over his chest.
I sat down, beside my bed, placing Paddy on the edge next to Sirius. He needed no more encouraging but that to jump onto Sirius and attack him. I just sat there and watched as Sirius tried to fight the little dog off, failing miserably because he was so tired from all walking. I just sat back and enjoyed the entertainment. Soon Paddy got bored and padded over to his bed in the corner of the dorm, curling up with his ball and falling asleep.
"That was also rude." Sirius pouted, glaring playfully at me.
I just smirked at him. What I didn't count on was him grabbing me and dragging me on top of him. I let out a surprised sound, not expecting that move. Once I was in a position which Sirius deemed comfortable, he just wrapped his arms around me and just lay there. I laughed to myself, not really knowing why. I buried my head into Sirius neck as I continued to laugh for no apparent reason, soon taking Sirius with me. The pair of us just lay there, laughing. There was something wrong with us.
When we finally stopped laughing, we continued to lie on the end of my bed. James walked into the dorm a few minutes later, just shaking his head at us, knowing better than to say anything when it came to Sirius and me. Probably for the better that he knew not to say anything, and decided to just stay quiet. James threw himself onto his bed, and spread out like a starfish.
"We're going to be leaving soon." James mused. "Shit."
"You're just thinking about that now, Prongs?" I asked.
"No."
"I do and don't want to leave." Sirius sighed. "I'm really going to miss it here...even if I do hate some of the classes."
"It's the end of an era." I agreed.
"But not the end of the Marauders."
"The Marauders shall go on!" James said, loudly. "No matter what! Even when we're old and grey! Even when we're dead! We'll cause mischief no matter what!"
The three of us sat us, grinning at each other.
"I like the sound of that." I nodded.
"Same here." Sirius beamed.
"Marauders till the end." James said, bouncing where he sat.
Now that was something I liked to think about.
