Victoria arrived early to her friend's wedding. After the other day, she thought that it would be a good idea to make sure Joslynn wasn't tearing into the servants or having a breakdown. Victoria found the bride in the middle of her rather large bedroom in her wedding dress yelling at no one in particular. The numerous maids that were in the room were jumping with every shout and seemed to be searching for something.
"Joslynn, what is going on?" Victoria asked upon entering the room and seeing the chaos.
"These people have managed to lose my tiara!" Joslynn cried before shooing a maid away so she could look on her bed. "My entire wedding is ruined now. I can't go out there without a tiara. I'll look ridiculous. That's it, I can't get married today. I'll have to tell everyone to just pack up and go home."
Now Joslynn looked ready to burst into tears. Victoria rushed over and sat her down in a chair to try and calm her friend down. "Now don't say that. You have been preparing for this wedding for ages. Reginald loves you and wants to marry you. I think he will think you are beautiful in whatever you wear."
"But I wanted to look perfect for him," the princess sobbed.
Victoria decided the only course of action was to help the maids search for the tiara before Joslynn really did cancel the wedding. She was unreasonable in the state she was in and the best thing would be to find the tiara and go from there. The maids had already gone through the entire room it looked like. Drawers were open and the bed was a wreck. The floor was littered with things that had been taken out of drawers and things used in the bride's dressing. It was no wonder one small tiara was lost in this mess. There was one pile on a small corner table of extra flowers and fabrics. Victoria lifted up all the spare decorations to find the wooden tiara box hidden underneath. Immediately she took it over to show Joslynn. Without the crisis of the lost tiara, the maids were able to finish getting the princess ready for her big day. Hopefully, there wouldn't be another crisis.
Once Victoria was sure that Joslynn would make it through to the actual wedding she left to join her sister and the other guests. The wedding was set up in the gardens. Waist-high hedges covered in all manner of flowers fenced in the intricate stone courtyard. Behind the hedges tall trees with long trailing leaves grew and cast most of the area in shade. The only place that wasn't in shadow was where the bride and groom would stand at the end of the aisle. There in the sunlight, stood an arched white pergola. Underneath the wooden structure stood Hector, Reginald, Sir Brockton, Poppy, and the priest. Matching white chairs had been set up in rows for the guests to sit in. Giselle was already seated near the front with Prince Christian. The two of them had started spending much more time together. Victoria thought it was good that Giselle had someone to spend time with while Victoria was with Hector. Ebony was sitting next to Giselle and the two of them were talking companionably. Victoria was glad that they seemed to be getting on much better these last few days. She greeted all of them as she sat down in her seat and waited for the wedding to start.
After the ceremony, everyone returned to the garden ballroom where more people who did not attend the wedding were already waiting. It was a smaller ballroom than what was used for the balls. The wall that faced the gardens was nothing but windows and on the other walls hung white tapestries with the royal crest of two golden dragons. Evenly spaced wide stone columns stretched from the wooden floor to the arching ceiling. A path was cleared for the princess and her new husband. Music came from some hidden alcove that held the orchestra and the couple began their first dance as man and wife. Hector had found Victoria soon after entering the ballroom and talked about how happy he was for his sister.
Giselle, Christian, and Ebony were standing nearby watching Reginald and Joslynn dance. Victoria smiled. Hector noticed and asked what made her smile. She turned her smile up at him from where she stood on his arm. "It's nothing. Just Ebony and Giselle seem to be getting along really well now. A few weeks ago the two of them were at each other's throats then Ebony spent almost a week with her friend unexpectedly. Then after the last ball, the two of them have gotten along wonderfully. I'm glad they were able to sort out their differences. I did not like them fighting all the time. I cannot believe how mean we used to be to poor Ebony. Now, we can all be a proper family."
"Speaking of families, I have something I want to talk to you about." Hector whispered. "Would you care to take a walk with me around the garden?"
Victoria nodded and they slipped out through the glass door that led back out to the gardens. Hector led Victoria down a winding stone path before he said a word. When they were on a wide wooden bridge that crossed over a fish pond, Hector stopped and turned to Victoria. He took both her hands in his and looked at where their fingers intertwined. "I have been thinking about this for a long time," He started.
"We have been spending so much time together, Victoria. I really meant it when I said I never wanted to go an entire day without seeing you. I can't imagine life without you anymore. You are clever and funny and know just how to make me smile like no one else can. I love you more than anything."
Victoria gasped as Hector let go of her hands and knelt down on one knee before her. She felt like pinching herself to make sure it was all real. Prince Hector, the future king of Lantine was kneeling before her and pulling a small box from his pocket. He held the white velvet box before her and opened the lid. Inside was a sparkling ring made of twisting gold bands with a small round diamond nestled in between. Even before the question was asked, Victoria knew her answer.
"My little sister became a wife today, and I think it is time I found a wife of my own. Victoria Kingston," Hector said. He was looking directly at Victoria as he held the ring box before her. "Will you do me the spectacular honor of becoming my wife?"
Tears of pure happiness were gathering in the corners of Victoria's eyes. If she smiled any broader, she knew her face would split in two. "Yes, yes, of course."
Victoria pulled Hector to his feet so she could kiss him passionately. He wrapped his arms around his love and returned the kiss with equal ardor. That one little word had made him happier than any man in all the seven kingdoms. He pulled away from Victoria and held the ring before her again. She smiled and raised her left hand so he could slip the band over her slender finger. As soon as the ring was in place he kissed her again and again. Victoria would be his queen and what a fine queen she would be. All her vanity and selfishness had disappeared and left the most caring person he had ever met. He could not imagine a more perfect match. He wanted to shout it to the world.
"Come let us go share the happy news!" Hector said excitedly as he grabbed Victoria's hand. He smiled when he felt the ring on her finger. Victoria was his and he was completely hers forever and always.
A formal announcement would be made soon enough. Today belonged to Reginald and Joslynn. The happy news would only be shared with family today. The king and queen were thrilled and welcomed Victoria with open arms. Hector whispered the news into Joslynn's ear. Her response was to shriek and hug him tightly while whispering how happy she was for him. Giselle hugged her sister and Christian clapped his brother on the back when they received the news. Curtis and Clover stopped their bickering just long enough to welcome Victoria to the family. Aunt Marge hugged Victoria so tightly that she almost choked in the perfume the woman wore, but she didn't mind at all. In top Dewey form, he launched into a lengthy congratulation speech for Victoria and Hector. Even he had someone on his arm. His light pink vest matched her lacy dress. Paislee excitedly congratulated the couple and wished them the best once Dewey was done. She then continued to talk with Dewy and his mother while Hector and Victoria went to find Brockton. He would want to hear the news and was as close as family to both of them. To Victoria, it looked like everyone had someone on this most happy day.
Another wedding, yay!
