Annabeth
The first thought I had when I woke up was, crap.
I knew something was wrong the moment I opened my eyes. There was no sound of battle around me. Instead, I heard the sound of crashing waves and seagulls squawking.
I slowly opened my eyes and I'm met with a beautiful scene.
I was on a beach. I could feel the soft sand beneath me and the crystalline blue waves crashed along the shores. I glanced behind me and saw what was a huge forest filled with the sounds of animals and multiple birds.
As I got over the beauty of the place, I started to wonder what I was doing here. I slowly got up and brushed myself off as best as I could. That was when I noticed Grover, Rachel and Clarisse lying in the sand a few ways away. I ran over to them just as they were waking up.
"Annabeth?" Rachel muttered.
"Yeah." I replied worriedly.
The three of them got up off the floor slowly.
"Where the hell are we?" Clarisse questioned.
"No idea…" Grover bleated. "But I think the more important question is how we got here."
I had a vague memory of Loki and Luke, but I couldn't exactly see what was happening with them. I'd been too busy fighting the army of dead people in front of me.
"Maybe it has something to do with that flower?" Rachel suggested.
"What flower?" Clarisse took the words right out of my mouth.
"A couple of the avengers were guarding something. I…got a glimpse of it and I think it was a flower. I think that's what gave Loki extra power that he gave to Luke as well."
"That's…not good." Grover commented.
"You're right," Clarisse started. "But right now we have to find a way off this island."
Clarisse turned to me with a raised eyebrow like she was expecting me to make a plan. I bit the inside of my lip self consciously.
"Well?" Clarisse prompted.
"I-I think we should explore. Maybe that way we can find out something about this place."
"Do…do you really think that that's a good idea?" Grover questioned slowly.
My eyes narrowed. "Well do you have a better idea?"
"No…"
"Then exploring we go."
I started walking towards the dense trees and the rest followed me.
As we were enveloped by trees, I noticed two things. The first was that all of a sudden, all the sounds of the forest silenced. The forest grew eerily quiet. Too quiet.
The second thing I noticed was that the sky above us darkened. It was like a storm was coming but the rain never fell.
"Um, ok this is weird." said Rachel nervously.
I nodded in agreement.
A few minutes of walking later and I saw the trees shake in front of us.
"Guys…what's happening…" Grover whispered.
The rumbling grew louder and it was like something big was coming towards us.
That was when the trees started coming down. All around us there were thundering crashes as trees after trees crashed to the floor.
I was only jolted out of my stupor as one of the trees right in front of us almost squashed us.
"Scatter!" I yelled as there was a deafening boom from the tree meeting the ground. I took out my knife that just happened to be in the pocket of the pants I was wearing and held it out in front of me.
Rachel, Clarisse, and Grover ran towards me.
"What the hell is doing that?" Rachel shouted.
I didn't have time to answer because I finally saw what it was.
It was a spider.
A big spider.
I grew rigid as I saw one of its hairy legs come out from behind a tree.
Slowly its body followed and I soon came face to face with a 20 foot tall spider.
I was frozen. I couldn't scream, I couldn't move. I was frozen in fear.
The others put me into action.
"Annabeth look out!"
I scrambled away in the nick of time as one of the spider's hairy legs almost squashed me like a bug. The world thundered as it landed just a few feet away from where I stood just a second ago.
A gasp stuck in my throat as the immediate threat disappeared but the spider kept stomping around squashing trees.
I ran over to the rest of the group as quick as I could.
"Annabeth! Are you okay?" Rachel asked frantically with a knife in her hand as well.
I nodded a yes silently but my heart said no, I wasn't okay. It was beating a mile a minute and my mind couldn't seem to form a plan.
"Annabeth? Plan now!" Clarisse yelled.
I shook my head in fear. "I…I don't have one!" I shouted back and I could hear an audible tremor in my voice.
Clarisse jumped as one of the legs landed close to her. She slashed at it crazily with her electrically charged spear, but all it did was make the spider angrier. Nothing seemed to kill it.
Clarisse backed away. "Ok, you know what? I have a plan. Run!"
She started running and it was a second before the rest of us caught on.
I ran as fast as I could after Clarisse deeper into the rainforest. I could hear the spider chasing after us through all the dense trees. I was running in a blind fear. I didn't know what was happening, and I didn't know where we were going. All I knew was that we had to get away.
It was only a matter of time before the spider would catch up to us and naturally, I was right.
Five minutes after we started running, something horrible happened.
As we were running, something blocked us from the front. I could hear it thundering through the woods and it wasn't long before it showed itself.
It was a cyclops.
Grover let out a terrified bleat as he ran the opposite direction from the cyclops and the spider, but we were surrounded.
Now enough was enough. I swallowed up my fear and stopped running.
"Annabeth what the hell are you doing?" Clarisse yelled at me but she stopped running anyways.
I didn't answer her. Instead, I only waited for the spider and cyclops to come to us.
A few seconds later and the two monsters came, thundering through the forest barreling down trees like machines.
As I saw the spider's hairy leg approach from the thicket, I steeled myself and tried telling myself not to run in the opposite direction.
There would come a day where I had to face my fears and I knew that today would be that day. There was no escaping it. I couldn't run forever.
As the spiders body and head were shown, I flinched. Not seconds later the cyclops appeared. I heard Grover whimper but thankfully, he stood his ground.
"Annabeth…" Rachel muttered hesitantly. For a second, none of us made a move. We stared at the two creatures and they stared right back.
I counted in my head.
1,2,3….
"NOW!" I yelled as loud as I could. The others knew what I meant and they started attacking the creatures. I went for the spider.
I held on to my dagger firmly and ran toward the spider. It's hairy leg tried to squish me but I jumped away.
As I jumped out of the way, I slashed wildly at any part of its body that I could hit. It did nothing. I weaved in and out of its legs as it kept lunging at me with its pincers.
It took me about another five minutes before I actually hit it.
As I saw an opening, I slid under the spider's belly and carried my dagger upwards. It found its mark.
I could feel it scraping through hair and flesh as it sunk into the tarantulas body. A second later, the thing exploded into sand. In the distance, I saw the cyclops do the same as Clarisse threw her spear straight towards its eye. I sighed in relief as both the monsters were gone and I was standing in a pile of sand.
I walked over to the others.
"Well…that was strange."
"Strange is an understatement." Rachel muttered. She had yellow sand in her hair and clothes as well as Grover and Clarisse. I was sure I looked no better.
"So…now what?" Grover questioned.
"Now we find a way out of here." Clarisse answered before I could say anything. I narrowed my eyes at her.
"And here we go again…" Rachel muttered to herself as we set off again.
But we didn't get far.
As we were walking, just as I was about to take another step forward, I felt myself lurch forward like I was being pushed. I fell forward and I tried to stop myself but when I regained my balance, we weren't in a forest anymore.
We were in an….attic.
An eerily familiar attic. The attic at the big house in Camp Half Blood.
My eyes widened as I noticed that Rachel, Grover and Clarisse were with me as well.
"Ok…what the hell was that?" Clarisse hissed.
No one had an answer for her.
As I continued to explore the attic, I made an astonishing discovery.
I stood in shock, facing the thing as I called the others. "Guys, come here."
They did just that and when they saw what I was looking at, I could practically feel the disbelief off of them.
We were huddled around a…mummy. The oracle to be exact.
I could tell Rachel was having it the worst. When she spoke, he voice was shaky. "Wh-what is that doing here."
"I don't know…" I muttered.
As we stood watching the strange mummy, a thick mist started to fill the room.
The oracle was going to speak.
I backed up slowly along with the others but with nowhere to escape, we had to stand our ground. As the green mist became so thick that it was becoming hard to see, the oracle transformed into…someone. The mist in front of us formed a human figure.
At first I didn't know who it was, but then the realization hit me like a rock hit a window.
"Ares?" Clarisse spoke up.
I knew it. It was her dad.
The raspy voice spoke, imitating Ares' rough voice. It chuckled, deep and loud before saying, "Clarisse, you have failed me."
Clarisse took a step back. "Failed you? How?"
'Ares' frowned. "You are nothing but an insignificant prick! A bug flying around me."
"But dad…" Her voice was getting shaky.
"Don't 'but dad' me!" Ares shouted and then he cackled.
It was a deep, raspy cackle. My eyes widened as seconds later, the figure exploded and the mist that was gathered, receded.
At first, I took a breath of relief. But it was short-lived.
As the mist receded, instead of going back into the mummy on the three-legged stool, it changed direction and headed straight for Rachel. I heard her yelp as the mist hit her right in the middle of her chest.
She stumbled backwards a few steps as the mist was absorbed into her body. Her face was frozen in a scream and her hands clenched.
"Rachel!" I cried, trying to get her attention but it didn't work.
"Bla-ha-ha!" I heard Grover bleat from behind me.
And then, as soon as it had started, the mist disappeared. It was like Rachel had absorbed all of it.
She stumbled forward but didn't fall. There was a blank expression on her face like she didn't know what had happened.
I approached her carefully. "Rachel…are you ok?"
She looked up at us in confusion. "Um…yeah?"
I scrunched my eyebrows in worry. "Are you sure, because I-"
I didn't have time to finished my sentence because in that very moment, I was jerked backwards. It was violent and I could feel myself falling.
And then, I landed in the darkness.
And there you have it!
I hope you guys liked it and if you want, leave a review!
