And here we go!
Natasha
My eyes snapped open and I leaped to my feet. Without a seconds thought, I grabbed my knife out of my jumpsuit and held it out in front of me.
It took me a minute to realize that no one was going to kill me.
I lowered my hand and slowly started to relax. When I confirmed that there was no immediate danger, I surveyed my surroundings.
The first thing I noticed were Clint and Thor lying on the ground in the distance. They were just getting up from the ground.
As I walked over to them, I saw Clint's eyes full of fear . He scrambled up, bow and arrow in hand and looked around. When he finally meets me eyes, his expression doesn't change. There's a slight glimmer of trust in his eyes that only I can see.
I nod slowly in his direction and he takes it as an 'it's all okay' sign and lowers his bow.
I shift my gaze towards Thor who is only just getting up. I saw his eyes widen as he noticed where we were.
"Thor," Clint called out. "Its okay."
He nodded and slowly made his way over to his hammer that lay on the ground. He bent down, gripped the handle and lifted it up.
Well at least, he tried to.
As he gripped the hammer, it didn't budge.
My eyes widened as I watched Thor struggling to get it off the ground. He tried so hard to pick it up that I actually saw his feet dig into the ground.
"AGH!" He cried out as he gave one last effort in picking it up. I watched as he clenched his now formed fists in controlled anger and bowed his head.
"Thor…" Clint asked tentatively. He gave no answer.
"Thor….are you okay?" I asked quietly.
I saw his body start to shake subtly and he whipped around to face us. "Does it look like I be okay? My weapon, I cannot lift it!"
He exclaimed in frustration and tried again. He pulled as hard as he could on the hammer that still lay on the ground and it didn't budge a centimetre. I saw beads of sweat form on his brow and I could tell he was doing all he could to lift the hammer.
And still it didn't work.
He stopped trying and sighed with a defeated look on his face.
I walked over to him and tried to give him some consolation. "Thor, it's ok, you were able to lift it before we got…here."
He looked up at me with broken eyes. I knew there was something going on here. Just five minutes ago, we had all been battling Loki.
But when I looked back at Clint holding his bow strangely and Thor not being able to lift his hammer, something clicked.
I turned to face Clint and said, "I want you to do something for me."
He shrugged. "Okay."
I looked around until I spotted a tree a few ways away. "I want you to shoot that tree. Right in the middle."
He frowned. "What the hell does this have to do with anything?" I didn't answer and instead glared at him until he gave into my request.
"This isn't going to show anything…" He mumbled as he took a ready stance with his bow. He notched one of his arrows and pulled back on the bow.
After about five seconds, he let go. The arrow sailed through the air and I saw it fly towards the tree. But…it didn't hit the trunk.
Instead, it sailed right past it.
My eyes widened. Clint never ever missed a shot.
I could tell Clint was shocked as well. He took a step back in surprise and notched another arrow.
And the same thing happened. The arrow sailed right past the tree completely missing the point of contact.
As I watched Clint notch two more arrows, I could see a subtle shake in his hands. Both those arrows either fell short or sailed past. Just as he was about to notch another arrow, I walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder in reassurement.
He clenched his hands into fists but didn't show any emotion other than that. But I knew of course.
I knew what he was really feeling.
"T'is this place comrades. Loki's magic has kept us here and taken away our powers." Thor said darkly.
I frowned. "Loki can do that?:
"Yes…but he needed more magic. That was what the flower was for."
Of course. The flower that the others had been protecting. It was what gave Loki the power to do this. That was when I realized that my skills in martial arts and near perfect aim would also be missing. I was compromised.
Clint shifted his feet. "Ok, so now we know why we're here. But where exactly is here?"
I looked around the odd place we were standing in. It was plain. just a flat land with a few odd trees here and there. There was nothing all around us. No civilization, no people, nothing.
"T'is a barren place." Thor stated.
"Yeah…" I agreed. "But…what now?"
"I do not wish to leave mjolnir." Thor mumbled, guilt in his voice.
I couldn't help but feel a little annoyed at the fact that we couldn't go anywhere because Thor couldn't pick up his hammer. I tried swallowing the feeling as I thought of something that we could do.
Five minutes later and nothing was coming to mind. Neither Thor or Clint were much help either.
"Okay I got nothing." Clint exclaimed a few minutes later. I nodded slowly and Thor's expression didn't change.
Finally, I sighed. I did have an idea, but it wasn't a very good one. Just as I was going to propose it to the others, the world around us turned black.
It was like everything around us was swirling into nothingness. I couldn't see Clint or Thor and I didn't know where I was. I was surrounded by blackness and the barren landscape that we had been in just seconds ago disappeared.
It was at least a minute before I had any sense of the space around me. The world came into focus again. As I looked around, I had no idea where I was and it was dark. Unnaturally dark. The only source of light came from what I was standing on. I turned around and saw the forms of Thor and Clint
I noticed that we were standing on a strip of…something. Like a narrow road. I walked to the edge and tried looking down.
And I saw nothing. Just endless black.
There was no end. It was black as far as the eye could see.
I turned back to look at the boys. As I studied Thor's expression, I saw worry on his face. And the sense that he knew where we were.
So I said, "Thor, you know where we are don't you."
He scrunched his eyes shut quickly and opened them again as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing. "Yes…I do know where we are. We are standing on what is called the Bifrost."
It took a minute for that register in my brain. "Wait, what?" I had heard of this Bifrost only in legends and some of the stories that Thor would tell us.
"The Bifrost. Heimdall protects it. The passage between all world." Thor's voice was trembling slightly.
"But what the hell are we doing here?" Clint demanded.
Thor looked uneasy. "I do not known but somehow I think my brother is behind this."
"You think?" Clint asked bitterly.
"OK we need to figure out how to get off this thing." I suggested breaking up the tension.
I was beginning to see the shapes of stars and planets in the distance and it was becoming highly unnerving.
"We must find Heimdall. He will help us." spoke Thor.
He started to walk down the slightly lightened road. Clint and I exchanged a worried look but followed Thor nonetheless.
Then, just as soon as we started walking, the "floor" beneath us started rumbling. Fine cracks and tears could be seen on the Bifrost. A few ways away from us, the road began to crumble. Chunks of the glowing road fell off and was swallowed by the darkened below. The cracks were spreading quickly and coming towards us with speed.
I took the opportunity to start moving. I grabbed Thor by the hand and pulled as hard as I could when he looked like he wasn't going to start moving any time soon.
We ran as fast as we could but the bridge kept crumbling behind us. There was a deafening rumble as pieces of the Bifrost crashed and fell into the darkness.
We ran, but we didn't run fast enough.
The road crumbled and soon I was walking on nothing. I screamed out as I felt myself fall. I vaguely saw Thor and Clint from the corner of my eye as they fell along with me.
As I felt myself fall into nothingness, pieces of the Bifrost fell around me as I closed my eyes and was engulfed my darkness.
The first thought I had when I felt myself on solid ground was 'I'm not dead…'
I opened my eyes slowly and looked around. I found myself in a strange place.
Well actually, it wasn't strange. It was just eerily familiar.
We were standing on the rooftop of a building. But to be specific, I was certain we were standing on top of Stark Tower. As I looked around, I found that it looked exactly the same as it had right after the chitauri attack.
A few ways away, I saw Thor standing with a very confused look on his face. But…where was Clint?
I walked over to the broken window, glass crunching underneath my feet. As I walked through the window, I was met with a horrid sight.
I saw Loki, on the floor with his arms raised, looking just like he had been after the Hulk smashed him into the floor. I could even see the dent his body made on the ground.
But I also saw Clint, bow and arrow in hand and one sharp arrow pointed straight at Loki.
My eyebrows shot up and I ran towards them, Thor following right behind me.
"Clint no!" I shouted as I reached the two of them.
Clint's eyes were dark and hollow, no small amount of mercy in them at all.
"Clint try to think! He is my brother!" Thor bellowed, close to ripping him away, but I stopped him.
I knelt beside Clint and grabbed his arm. He ripped away from my grip violently and only pointed his arrow with more fury. I could see the broken emotions running through his eyes.
Anger, fear, revenge.
Mostly revenge.
I knew I had to talk him out of it.
Thor stood on the other side of Clint, looking at his brother. Loki had an amused expression on his face like somehow, this was entertaining for him.
"Look, Clint," I spoke softly. "Killing him will not help anything. You won't get peace by doing that. Once you kill him, it'll haunt you forever."
I saw beads of sweat drip down his forehead. "No," he spoke through gritted teeth. "I have to do this. He made me kill people…I won't let that happen again."
I saw him tense his shooting arm and I knew he was only about a hairs length from letting the arrow go.
"Clint!" I said frantically. "Killing him will not help! You know that! Revenge will only make it worse."
Thor was looking at the both of us and Loki with a worried expression on his face. He didn't say anything to intervene and I was glad for that.
"No Nat!" Clint half yelled. "This could be my only chance!" He looked up at me with broken eyes, looking for a sign of reassurance.
"You will not get peace like this." I placed a tender hand on his shoulder. His arm was trembling slightly, but he finally relaxed and lowered his bow and arrow to the ground.
I sighed in relief as I glanced at Loki. He had smirk on his face like he knew this was going to happen.
"Loki…" Thor mumbled darkly as he advanced on his brother.
"Thor." I shook my head slowly and he stopped, still looking like he wanted to murder someone.
That was when Loki started laughing.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Clint exclaimed.
He didn't answer. His laugh only became louder and more maniacal. Two seconds later and he stopped laughing, winked at us and then was gone.
He disappeared into thin air.
"What the-" Clint whipped around in surprise.
"Loki where have you gone!" Thor screamed out.
"Thor! Calm down, he's gone." I spoke.
Thor clenched his hands into fists but calmed down nonetheless. I glanced over at Clint and saw him staring at the area that Loki had been in just a minute ago. His eyes were blank and I could see his body shaking.
Just as I was about to go up to him and comfort him, the world around me shook.
"What is happening now?" Thor asked, looking more annoyed than anything
I didn't have time to answer his question because the world was peeling away. Colours and sounds melted from existence and suddenly, we weren't standing on the rooftop of Stark tower anymore. We were standing on nothing.
I was disoriented. I didn't know where either Thor or Clint were and I didn't know where I was.
I was so lost and I hated it.
But just as I thought I was losing my mind, the world reappeared again. Slowly but surely, colours and texture filled the emptiness around me and everything came back into focus. And this time I was somewhere else. In a field of tall grass to be specific. There were no trees or mountains or anything. Just really tall grass that was almost as tall as me surrounding me on all sides.
As I turned around full circle I could barely make out Thor and Clint standing in the distance. They walked over to me with difficulty and were standing beside me in no time.
Clint sighed, voice heavy and said, "Okay, so what crazy plan does Loki have for us now?"
I scrunched my eyebrows in worry. I had a very strong feeling that it was my turn to be tortured.
Just as a I thought that, I heard a menacing roar in the distance. "What was that?" I hissed.
Thor pointed to the grass in the distance. There was something moving in there. Something big. I couldn't see what it was, I could only see the grass moving.
The roaring grew closer and it sounded oddly…familiar. But I just couldn't place my finger on it.
Seconds later and the grass around us started rustling and I knew it had to be close. I could hear loud steps thumping through the shrubs.
We had to move.
"Guys run!"" I yelled at the two of them. I didn't wait to see what they did.
I started running through the grass with difficulty, plants smacking me in the face and hardly being able to see. I hoped that the 2 boys had the sense to follow me.
But unfortunately, it took about a minute before I lost them. I stopped, abruptly and turned full circle. The loud rustling had stopped suddenly and for a few seconds I thought I was safe.
I cupped my hands and shouted, "Thor! Clint!"
Evidently, it had been a very bad idea.
The minute I shouted that, I cursed myself for being so stupid. The creature or whatever it was could hear me.
I stood stock still, hoping that the thing hadn't heard me or sensed me. For a few minutes, I thought it was gone, but there was a violent bout of rustling in the bush before the creature burst out from the grass in front of me.
As I got a good glimpse of the creature, I realized why it sounded so familiar.
It was the Hulk.
Well…kind of.
It was more like a fiercer version of the Hulk, with razor sharp claws and drilling fangs. It looked exactly like the original except for those added bonuses.
But how could the Hulk be here? It couldn't be Banner, I was sure of it. But then who was it?
The only thing I knew was that I was being hunted by a Hulk that was even more dangerous than Banner's.
And that was when it all clicked and the only thought I had was run.
I scrambled up and threw myself into the tall grass with the Hulk right on my tail. I ran as fast as I could through the tall grass as I heard loud roaring right behind me.
The grass whizzed past me, slapping me on the face and giving me bruises. I couldn't see anything, I was blind and I didn't know what the hell was happening or where I was going.
And that was my downfall.
As I was running blind, I tripped over something. It caught on to me and twisted my ankle violently as I fell to the ground with a thud.
I tried scrambling up but it didn't work as my ankle gave way. Pain shot up my leg and I was sure that I twisted it, if not broken it.
Two seconds later and the Hulk thing caught up to me. My eyes widened, adrenaline coursing through my body as I half threw myself and half dragged myself across the ground away from the thing.
My heart was beating like crazy as it gave me a menacing sneer. It raised a big green hand and I knew I was done for.
I scrunched my eyes shut and anticipated the blow. I heard a shing of the claws erupting from it's skin and I braced myself for impact.
But…it never came.
Instead, I only sunk into the darkness yet again.
Well there you go...I know it was later than usual and whoops on my part XD.
But trust me, reviews do help me update quicker ;)
Plus, the next chapter will back in the forest with their nightmares done. It'll be pretty exiting!
