Warning: Military AU

We've been playing this game since the very first time we met

"Second evaluation is over! You can see the results in three days on the news board. Now go back to your dorm and get some rest," Shinichi's expression stays as calm as ever, as if he just doesn't scream orders to lines and lines of soldiers, "Make sure you kids show up by the sunrise tomorrow or help me God I'll drag your sorry butts here kicking and screaming."

The commander and the first lieutenant, the mastermind and his beloved deadly angel, him and I.

Another senior, a stoic blonde named Hakuba, passes stacks of evaluation paper to Shinichi and half-heartily points at the Commander's office behind him. Shinichi nods, bids the other good bye, and starts walking to the direction. Grinning slightly at everyone uneasiness about the evaluation results around him.

I was only a freshly recruited brat when I first met him. It was hot and overall uncomfortable when he strolled in the middle of the first lieutenant speech, wearing only a green military issued cargo pants and white tee, blue headphone laid around his neck. He threw a lopsided grin to the suddenly silent first lieutenant and made his way around the line of newly accepted soldiers. He stopped in front of me, conjured a white rose and put it in my breast pocket. My first thought was he is a weirdo, tough a good looking one.

Shinichi walks through the empty hallways to Kaito's office. He is flipping through the thick document and making mental notes about the evaluation earlier and how everyone's doing. His step stops by the door with gold nameplate embedded on it.

Then someone introduced him as our commander, Kaito Kuroba. He waved nonchalantly at the line and said, "Welcome to Silver Bullet everyone, enjoy your stay." I wasn't the only one who thought he is quite strange. Everyone will say that he is a unique commander, a bunny ears lawyer if you will. He prefers playing around with guns, upgrading it to his heart content, rather than training with his soldiers. One can hear a low hum of up-beat song every time he's in the com line with soldiers on a duty. But he is good at what he does. Up until now, absolutely no one can beat him at making strategy; he can win a middle sized ambush with only five people troop at his will. His planning skill is damn near perfect as if he was a thief in his previous life, too used of planning the perfect heist that baffled everyone but himself.

The young lieutenant raps his knuckles against the wooden door, a soft come in answered it. He opens the door and begins to stride closer to the table in the middle of the room, "Good evening Commander."

For something one would call future, our world right now is pretty chaotic. War between nations for said the greater good is not uncommon, be it using heavy artillery or biological weapons. People lives behind the security provided by the loyal soldiers. I was, like many young men from my country, recruited by military to keep peace around. This is where I got my nickname, deadly angel.

"Hello to you too Angel," Kaito, in all his cargo pants and casual tee glory, looks away from the plan on his table to spare a glance at the setting sun on the window, leans back to the big spiny leather chair, "The evaluation is over I presume?"

I have the skill for the job; I was placed in this special squad. The name is Silver Bullet, created to kill designed to win. It only accepts about ten people every year and it's no surprise if only half of those soldiers left the next year to tell the tale. We from Silver Bullet don't protect our country, we eliminate those who danger it. Things I have to do sometimes feel unbelievably inhuman. Then again it is exactly like what they say; all is fair in love and war.

"Yes, and we were a bit behind the schedule," Shinichi puts the papers on the table, sorted based on ability, "A senior couldn't come to evaluate today, sprained his ankle at a spar the night prior."

My first mission was assigned about a month after I became a fine man in uniform. Kaito called me and a quiet senior named Akai, the objective was to kill a young minister and took some files from him. It was easy to get him alone and took me to his office, for Akai to slip into said office without a problem. Yes, I was the bait. Kaito made me to, said because I am pretty and everything. It was easy, too easy, until his bodyguards showed up. I was rummaging through the drawer when I heard Akai shot one of the guards, I shot the drugged up minister and snatched the files. When I looked back I saw Akai's body dropped lifelessly to the floor, I fled without thinking twice.

"Let me guess, Hattori?" An amused smile adorns both men lips, remembering a hot-headed, talented soldier and a clumsy, good friend, "Something interesting happened at the field?"

It seems easy to see death as part of the job when one is in my line of work, but to see your comrade goes down right before your very eyes is entirely different matter. I went back to the headquarters alone and no one questioned me, only looking with sad understanding in their eyes. I dropped the files on Kaito's desk and told him what had happened then I went back to my dorm. Trying to sleep and to will the image of a fallen partner away from my mind.

"Someone bled his arm earlier yet he remained oblivious until a senior pointed it out," Kaito snatches the top files and flips it open, a young blonde soldier photo with general identification is written on the first page. The next page is full of Shinichi's neat handwriting, noting how the guy was doing in the evaluation, "It's almost like he can feel nothing judging from how much blood there was on his uniform but he felt no pain at all."

Commander came sometime after diner, quite steps and a sudden weight on the corner of my bed. I got up and we sat side by side silently. He hummed and began running his hand through my hair, pulling me softly to lean against himself, "I am not going to say it's going to be all right because we both know thing like this bound to happen," He grimaced slightly, "It comes with the job I guess. But listen to me pretty boy, if you want someone to lean on you can always come to me, I am strong enough to always be here for you.". That was the night when I realized Kaito really is a cool guy.

"No sense of feel huh," Kaito looks pointedly, teasingly at his subordinate, "That means you can feel absolutely nothing if someone touch you right, that won't be fun" He smirks at the other as heat starts to creeps on the standing soldier cheek.

Days passed and Kaito flirts with me almost as much as he breathes, soundlessly saying that he really wants me but he will make me unbearably wants him first and makes the first move. But we both know I am one stubborn guy that makes that goal way harder to achieve .Kaito keeps calling me pretty boy every chance he gets, like he is one to talk. By now, probably almost everyone knows the attraction between us, the familiar melody we both dance to.

"Noiz can feel pressure tough, something like dull sensation under the skin," Shinichi looks away from those violet eyes, "Seragaki has checked, but we really don't know anything from medical point of view,"

About a year after the Akai incident Commander called me to his office and handed me a document. I was the only one from my year that became a first lieutenant. Kaito watched me with amusement in his eyes when I acknowledged this news, "To celebrate this occasion I'm going to change your nickname pretty boy," His tone was cheerful, unfit with what he said to me, "Because you never fail to brought quiet, effective deaths everywhere you went the last years, I'm going to call you angel, deadly angel."

"That's would be a good skill don't you think?" The tactician contemplates lightly, "He won't talk under any kind of interrogation."

As the first lieutenant, it became my job to report daily training of the soldiers to Commander. Though not every day, there is a reason we have four first lieutenants in our squad. Kaito sticks to my latest nickname, even though he only used it in the privacy of report time. It doesn't help that every time I do the duty he keeps watching me with this look, all lazy smile and half lidded eyes. Sometime he throws witty comments while I rattle of the paper. The game quickly escalates to how long we can go on like this before giving up and kissing the other senseless first.

"It's a disadvantage, A good spy needs to know how much he's been hurt and decides should he continue his mission or abort it"

Contrary to popular belief, Kaito is one caring commander, even if his appearance doesn't exactly support this fact. This is also the reason why he was late on my first day here; he spent the morning away at the infirmary, holding ice bags over many soldiers' bruises that just came back from the infamous South District treachery two years ago. He never stays too long on the same person tough, until I came along. He always stays when I have to spend the night in there, sitting beside my bed and ignoring the doctor chaste about leaving the patient alone. He lets me concentrate on his babble rather than on my injury until I fall asleep. He always has gone when I wake up, leaving nothing but a chocolate bar on the bedside table.

"A good spy needs to be skilled enough so he won't be hurt during a mission," Kaito closes his eyes in displeasure, "But hey, accident happens," the messy haired man leans on the table and props his head on the hands, "I worries more about Noiz loyalty rather than his lack of sense tough."

The first time I saw Kaito lost his cool was three weeks ago, right after I regained my consciousness after a mission went wrong. Someone once said that commander will still grin mischievously even if a gun is held against his temple, I see how he is every day, how skilled he actually is, and I sincerely believe in this statement with all my heart. He has the skill to back up that perfect devil-may-care attitude after all. Until I saw how he looked at me that time, pure relief clear in those violet eyes, it felt like he had an internal debate about hugging me or not. In the end, Kaito flicked my forehead and chastising me for worrying him. He left me shortly after, still with that happy grin on, leaving me confused about his sudden rush of emotion that felt completely different from before.

The lieutenant says nothing; he just throws the other questioning look.

Later Hakuba, my partner in this mess, dropped by and told me Kaito had been studiously visited since I was first admitted, sometime even bringing his plan of attack or toys to tinker with. Apparently, I was out cold for two weeks because of serious case of blood loss and head trauma. Good thing we still managed to blow up the evidence before I lost consciousness.

"You have seen those adoring looks he gives Seragaki I'm sure, this kid is completely smitten," He frowns lightly, "Makes me wonder about where his loyalty really belongs."

Nothing is the same anymore after that, he keeps giving me this very concerned look when I come around to report, dropping his façade completely around me, feels like finally he is going to make a move.

"Even if it is belong to the other, Seragaki he will never betray us," Shinichi stays as stoic as ever, "I'll make sure of that."

If it took me a freaking gunshot and blood loss to get him do this, I think our relationship is going to be painfully fantastic. Though still, I'm just relived I'll know how the game that we has played for years will eventually end.

"A shepherd huh? Instead of lots of adorable sheep, you got a pack of deadly wolves to tame," the crafty commander leans back on the chair and drapes his arms on the rim, casually links his fingers together and throw a challenging look at the other, "Those guys absolutely love you though, won't that be dangerous if someday you decides to overthrow me?"

"All of me, from my heart to the last strand of my hair belongs to you commander," He can feel Kaito's eyes on him again, a knowing smirk adorning his lips, "Down to every heartbeat, every breath I take and I wish for nothing else but your happiness, you don't need to worry about such thing."

"Prove it."

Kaito beckons his finger at the stand still lieutenant, ordering the other to come closer. Shinichi dutifully moving closer with calm determination, expression betrays nothing to the other. The young tactician spins his chair, making his knees bumping the lieutenant's.

"Prove it to me First Lieutenant Shinichi Kudo," Kaito pulls on Shinichi's tie, making his knees bend in awkward angle. Force him to come closer to the commander, "That you belong to me and me alone."

The young lieutenant mind goes into chaos when the other kisses his lips, so much approving when Kaito's hand moving his slack jaw and depends the kiss. Shinichi hardly feels the other hand guiding him just so until he sits quite snugly on Kaito's lap, too lost to care about the surrounding or anything else.

It's over, the game is over.

Shinichi is barely conscious about Kaito's hand removing his hat and tangles in the black locks, but he definitely aware when the commander start moving down, peppering kisses on his jaw. Suddenly, the other warm breath is gone; forcing Shinichi to open his eyes and dazedly looks down. Kaito silently stares at him, the order is clear and simple, "Stay alive," The other kiss his neck and murmurs something, "For me."

Shinichi is quietly processing the order when he feels the other grin to his neck. His breath hitched when Kaito bites on, hard enough to bruise and definitely high enough so Shinichi can't hide it with the collar of his uniform. The message is clear, he is taken, and no one is allowed to touch.

"Now, off you go," The commander chastely kisses him, puts the hat back on and gently moves him off his lap. His voice as even as ever, as if he wasn't just kiss his own subordinate into oblivion less than five minutes ago, "Good job today and I expect nothing less from you Lieutenant."

Shinichi is regaining his composure and starts moving to the door. When he steals a glance back at the Kaito he sees him already immersed in the evaluation documents.

The clicked sound of the closed door fills the room.

This is going to be fun.

i am thinking about the uniform from one of Shiki's ending in TnC for the clothes design, but it can be any general military uniform.

these chapters are getting longer and longer, i am not even sure it's even drabbleish anymore ( - - ;)
