Alright peeps, here's the next chapter. The italics as everyone knows, are journal entries. First is Maura's, followed by Jane's. Enjoy!
I can't believe it; I'm pregnant! It was so difficult to keep it from Jane those two weeks; I thought I was going to blurt it out any second. I took a pregnancy test a few days after I skipped my period and there it was: positive. I made a doctor's appointment to confirm with blood work and it came back positive as well. He wanted to do an ultrasound right then and there but I couldn't let Jane miss out on that. I knew that our six month anniversary would be coming up so I made an appointment for a checkup and ultrasound two days after so she could join me. I don't want Jane to miss out on any of this pregnancy. I feel bad for having kept as much as I did from her but seeing her face light up and react the way she did last night make me feel like I made the right decision. Now it's on to the first ultrasound to hopefully see our little one and possibly even hear a heartbeat. This is the beginning of the next major stage of our lives and I couldn't be happier. I'm lucky to have been able to find love in such a wonderful person. I know Jane is going to make an excellent mother. I can't wait!
We spent the best night we could've possibly had. Maura told me she's pregnant! I can't believe she managed to not tell me for so long. I mean, it's only been two weeks but still, for Maura, it's an eternity. We've been waiting for this moment for months! We'd talked about having children before we got married, and we decided that we didn't really want to wait. Neither one of us was getting any younger. While I wasn't all that convinced about being a good mother, Maura managed to talk me into it. She would carry the baby for us she said. Deep down I was grateful for her being the one willing to go through the pregnancy. Maura is already the one that is healthiest of the two of us and there would be very little that would need to change about her diet according to her. I can only imagine what 9 months of 'eating healthy' and having no caffeine would be like for me: pure torture. We'd sat down months ago and gone through a list of possible donors, picked out with extreme detail. All had qualities we both liked and wanted our little bundle of joy to have. Having Maura's genes was only going to make them even better. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a little nerd running around the house by the time the kid was 3. We have our first ultrasound tomorrow and I'm very excited! Maura said we'd get to see our little peanut and possibly even get a heartbeat if she's far enough along. I can't wait to have my mini version of Maura running around the house...
"Dr. Isles?" the receptionist called out.
"Yes?"
"The doctor will see you now. If you could please follow me, I'll show you the way."
"Of course, thank you," Maura replied as she and Jane rose from their seats and followed the woman deeper into the office towards the patient rooms.
"If you could please change into the gown on the table, the doctor will be with you shortly."
"Thank you."
"Do you want some help?"
"No Jane, I'm fine," replied Maura. "Relax. This is routine, there's nothing to be nervous about, love."
"No, of course there isn't. I don't know why I'm nervous. It must be the excitement."
Maura turned and kissed her wife softly on the lips.
"Hey, everything is going to be ok. I know you're excited; so am I. We get to see our little one for the very first time!"
"I know. I can't wait to see our little peanut!"
"It's not a peanut Jane."
"I know, but that's what it looks like at first."
"You're not going to call it anything else, are you?" Maura asked, half joking, half serious.
"Nope," Jane replied with a smile.
There was a knock at the door that announced the doctor's arrival.
"Dr. Isles, how good to see you again. This must be your wife."
"Hello doctor. Yes, this is my wife Jane."
"Pleasure to meet you Jane, Michael Connor," the doctor said as he extended his hand.
"Good to meet you doctor, Jane Rizzoli," replied Jane as she shook his hand.
"Alrighty. Well as you know, Maura has already had her pregnancy confirmed, and wanted me to wait until today to perform the ultrasound so that you may join us. Let's take a look, shall we? Are you ladies ready to meet your baby?"
"More than ready," replied Jane to Maura's nod and smile.
"Ok Maura, this is going to feel cold at first, but it'll warm up with the wand."
About a minute into his examination, the doctor turned the screen and made the ultrasound visible for the two women.
"You see that there? That is your baby."
"It's our little peanut!" Jane replied, joy filling her voice as she held Maura's hand.
"The baby is at about 7 weeks and looking great."
"Can we hear the heartbeat, doctor?" Jane asked.
"It's normally a little early to hear the heartbeat, but we can give it a try. I just don't want you two to be discouraged if we can't accomplish that today. The baby is healthy and everything is running as it should."
"We understand, doctor. I've already explained that to Jane," replied Maura.
After a few minutes, a loud, fast thumping filled the room.
"It's so fast! Is that… the baby's heartbeat?" asked Jane.
"Yes love, that's the baby's heart. It's a strong, healthy beat."
"We're having a baby." Jane stated in awe, tears glistening.
"We're having a baby," replied Maura with a smile as Jane leaned in and kissed her.
