There was a feeling of pure excitement the following morning. It was finally the day of the coronation ball. This was easily one of the most anticipated moments of the entire coronation celebration. All of the palace staff were running around, getting decorations up, checking of the status of food and making sure all the details were perfect for that night. There was talking and yelling throughout the palace.

"Turn those flowers more to the left. More. More. Maybe they need to come back to the right just a little. PERFECT!" Sean yelled as he supervised the florists.

To be honest, Blaine was little scared to leave his room. It was chaos out there. So he was beyond relived when Kurt entered his room with two plates of food.

"I thought we could eat breakfast in here today. It is crazy out there."

Blaine smiled as Kurt handed him his plate of food and sat next to him.

"Ready to waltz?" Kurt asked.

"I think so."

"Well, Alicia will be here sometime after one to give us one last minute lesson. Honestly, I don't think we need it."

The boys ate in silence. Despite the confident mask Blaine knew Kurt was nervous.

"It's okay to say you're nervous." Blaine said after they finished eating.

"I'm not nervous about our dance."

"That's not what I was talking about. This is it. After tomorrow you are going to be a king of a country. This is the end of you as a prince."

Kurt looked down as he played with his hands.

"What if I'm not good enough?"

"You will be."

"How do you know?"

"Because I know how amazing and smart you are. You can do anything Kurt."

Kurt smiled and lay down on Blaine's bed. Blaine took the hint and lay down beside him. Kurt put his head on Blaine's chest and they wrapped their arms around each other. Kurt felt Blaine press a kiss on his forehead.

"I want to stay like this forever." Kurt said.

"Me too. How about a quick nap for now."

"Sounds good to me."

Their quick nap turned into a two-hour nap and suddenly everything was behind schedule.

"Where have you two been? Do you have any idea what time it is? In a few short hours Alicia will be back and we still need to do final tux fittings and for-" Some person, Blaine didn't remember them, was rambling how there was so much to do in such little time. Luckily Sean was able to get everything back on track.

"Kurt, you go to Odin for your fitting. Blaine you follow me." Sean ordered.

Blaine gave Kurt a quick kiss on the cheek before they went in different directions.

"Sorry about that Blaine. Everyone is a little on edge this morning."

"Understandable. So, what did you need me for?"

"I was just going to gave you a rundown of how things will go tonight."

Sean brought Blaine into the ballroom. He showed him how Burt, Carole and Finn would enter and where Blaine should stand. He then told Blaine when his dance with Kurt would occur and how Kurt's main entrance would happen.

"And then after Kurt says a few words you two will lead every one into the ballroom, come to the middle of the room and wait for the music to start for your waltz to begin. After your dance food will be presented and the dance floor will open up to the attendees." Sean concluded. However, when Sean looked around he saw Blaine wondering around the room.

"Please tell me you heard something that I just said."

Blaine nodded as he got out of the way as one of the maids quickly rushed by him.

"I heard all of it. I just can't get my head wrapped around the idea of being at a real ball. This is amazing."

"It really is. I remember the last coronation ball we had for King Burt. It was one of the most spectacular things I had ever seen. I was younger than of course, but it really is a beautiful event."

"Sean, do you think I'm ready for tonight?"

Sean nodded.

"In my opinion, you don't have anything to worry about."

"What if I mess up the first dance and embarrass Kurt."

"From what I'm told you are a good dancer. And with your show choir you have performed in front of crowds many times before."

"But never for something this important."

"Don't let your nerves get the best of you. When the time comes it is going to be fine."

Those words somehow relaxed Blaine a little. It was nice to know that there were people who did believe he could do it.

"Okay. So, what's next?"

"After Kurt finishes his fitting you will be next and then I think you will be ready for tonight."

Blaine could hope he was.

Blaine knew he wouldn't see Kurt until the ball started. It seemed everyone needed his help so Blaine took the opportunity to walk around by himself. His suit ended up fitting perfectly so no last minute alterations were needed. He stopped as he walked by one large piece of artwork that was hanging up on the wall. It was a portrait of the royal family. Well it was Burt, Kurt and Elizabeth. Blaine couldn't imagine losing a parent at a young age. He could understand where Kurt's former bad behavior came from.

"It's a wonderful painting." A female voice said behind him.

He turned and saw Carole.

"I agree."

"Elizabeth was a very kind and warm person. Everyone loved her. She was a wonderful queen, wife and mother. She cared about everyone she met. When they first announced that she was sick everyone thought that she would pull trough. But the cancer was to strong and spread to fast that there just wasn't enough time for her to fight it. Can I tell you a secret, something that not even Burt knows."

"Of course."

"I met her once."

"For real?"

"Yes. I think Finn was around two years old. I had taken Finn with me to the market. Well, that same day, Elizabeth had also gone out to the market as well. She loved to be out with the people whenever she could. So obviously, there was a crowd round them so I was just going to pick up what I needed and get out of the way. As we were leaving, Finn fell and scraped his knee and started crying the loudest he had ever cried. I tried to sooth him but the next thing I knew she was kneeling down next to us, I though she would be mad or at least annoyed but she wasn't. She smiled at Finn and asked what happened and I staid that my son had fallen and apologized. Can you guess what she did next?"

"Probably something really kindhearted."

"She told me how Kurt liked to try to run down the halls of the palace but would lose control and had more than a few cuts and bruises himself. She smiled at me, helped me pick up Finn and my bags and walked out with us. She always talked to people like they were her friends. That's why everyone loved her."

Blaine smiled at Carole.

"Well, I think you are doing a really good job. You have that same kindness."

"That means a lot. Thank you Blaine."

The loud ring of a cell phone interrupted their conversation.

"I'll go check on Burt and let you take your call." Carole said with a smile and left.

Blaine looked down at his phone and accepted the call.

"Hi Wes."

"Hey Romeo, how is everything going?"

"Okay. I get to go to a ball tonight."

"You really are turning into a Disney prince."

"No, pretty sure that's Kurt."

"Good point."

"It must be pretty late in Ohio, is everything okay."

Blaine noticed Wes hesitating.

"…Of course everything is okay."

"Wes, don't lie to me."

"I swear nothing is wrong. It's just that some of the Warblers are getting concerned."

"Concerned? About what?"

"It's hard to say out loud. There is concern on if you are coming back."

"Back?"

"To Dalton after the break."

And that nagging voice that kept reminding Blaine that in a few weeks classes would be resuming back home, the one he tried to ignore, got louder and louder in his head.

"I have to come back to graduate."

"We didn't know if you would. If things are going really good with you and Kurt it is possible that you would just stay there."

"We? You think this also. You think that I would just give up all responsibilities, on my education and the Warblers just because the guy I fell in love with happens to be royalty."

"It's not like that."

"Then what is it like?"

"We miss you. In just under six months we are going to graduate high school, then everyone is going their separate ways. There will be no more late night study sessions or Warbler practices. Our group will not have movie marathons anymore or even see each other everyday. We just wanted to make sure you would be back for these last memories we are going to be making at Dalton."

For the first time since he left Ohio Blaine felt guilty. He never meant for his friends and family to think he was trading them in.

"Look man, no one wants to make it seem like we don't like Kurt. As far as we are concerned he is one of us. We are so happy you guys are in love and if you didn't try to win him back we would have but you on that damn plane ourselves. We just wanted to know where we stand."

"Wes, I am so sorry. I should have kept you or David more updated. I am coming back. Honestly, I don't know what will happen in the future between Kurt and me. We are taking things day by day but I never wanted you or anyone back home to think I didn't care anymore. I should be home before the new year." Blaine said.

"You have no idea how good that is to hear. I guess I will let you go. I have to get to bed. I'm finishing putting the Christmas decorations with my parents tomorrow and you have a big night ahead of you. "

"Yeah, I do. Say hi to everyone for me."

"I will."

"And I mean-"

"I know. I'll stop by your place tomorrow. Let them know you will be home soon."

Then something hit Blaine.

"Most of the Warblers are on family vacations of their own. Did my mom put you up this? Did she want you to check up on when I'm coming home?"

'This is so like her.' Blaine thought.

"For once Blaine Anderson is wrong. This is a historical event."

"Wes…"

"It was your dad."

And with that, Wes hung up and Blaine couldn't believe it. Blaine quickly turned around and almost ran into one the waiters that were hired for the night.

"I'm so sorry." Blaine said.

"No, I'm sorry. Please don't tell anyone you saw me here. The kitchen is getting so stressed out with everything having to be perfect and everyone is yelling I just needed a few minutes away from the chaos. If they think I am just goofing off they will probably fire me."

"Don't worry, everyone is feeling it right now. Trust me, I will not say a thing."

"Thank you, so much."

Blaine gave the man a smile and nod and decided it was time to find Sean and see where he had to go next.

Blaine looked out his palace room window and saw people starting to arrive. He took a deep breath and finished perfecting his look. He last minute waltz rehearsal went better than expected so he was starting to think he could pull this off. He was just about to head downstairs when he heard a knock on the door.

"Blaine, it's Kurt."

"Kurt? What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see you before anyone else does."

"But, I thought that was bad luck to see each other."

"Blaine, this is a coronation ball, not a wedding."

'Oh, right.' Blaine thought as he opened the door.

Kurt looked stunning. He was in a perfectly fitting tuxedo, one that looked very much like Blaine's.

"You look like perfection." Blaine said.

"You look pretty stunning yourself."

Blaine couldn't help it and pressed a kiss on Kurt's lips. Kurt eagerly responded but pulled away when Blaine put his hand on the back of Kurt's head.

"Hands off the hair. There is no time to fix it."

"Sorry."

"Is everything okay? You seemed a little off earlier."

"I got a call from Wes."

Kurt smiled.

"How is everyone doing?"

"Fine. They are all busy enjoying their winter vacation. I know Jeff and David miss you like crazy."

"The feeling is mutual."

Blaine pulled Kurt closer to him.

"Can I ask you something?"

"You can always ask me anything."

"How long do you expect me to stay?"

Kurt frowned.

"I don't understand."

"How long am I supposed to spend in Denmark? I know we have avoided going into detail about this but I need to know what your expectations are. I have to go home and as much as I have loved being here I would like to spend Christmas at home and it is only a few days away. I have to go back to finish school at Dalton and the Warblers are counting on me. I love you Kurt, but I can't just drop my entire life from Ohio and live here forever. And I'm sorry but I don't know if I want to give up my dreams of going to school in New York."

Blaine saw Kurt's eyes fill with tears and him trying to quickly get rid of them.

"Shit, I shouldn't have said anything yet. I should have waited until after tonight." Blaine cursed.

Kurt just shook his head.

"I'm not mad at you. We do need to talk about this but your timing couldn't be worse." Kurt said with a chuckle that made Blaine laugh as well. Blaine took his hand carefully wiped away the tears.

"I couldn't keep that bottled inside."

"You shouldn't, that isn't healthy. You're right we do need to talk but you need to know that I do not want you putting your life on hold or changing any future plans for me. Of course you have to go back and finish school and be with your family. I hope you didn't think that I wanted you to just stay here and never see your family or friends again. I love you so much, I just want you to be happy."

"You make me happy."

Kurt smiled the biggest smile he could.

"You make me happy too."

Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine and pulled his boyfriend into a hug.

"Now, I'm going to ask you a question. Would you ever ask me to give up the royal throne to be with you?" Kurt asked as he laid his head on Blaine's shoulder.

"Absolutely not. I could and would never ask you to do something like that for me."

"Then why did you ever think that I would demand you to do the same for me?"

"I don't know. I don't know the rules for dating a prince, hell tomorrow you are going to be a king."

"Well, I'm pretty sure I broke about every rule ever made about royal behavior. We will not fit with tradition because we are not a traditional couple, hell I'm not a traditional prince. So, we will figure things out as we go and whenever we come across an obstacle we will figure out a way around it together."

"I love you."

"I love you too." Kurt said as he pulled away and quickly checked his look in the mirror.

Blaine was about to speak when Rachel came rushing into the room.

"I was hoping to find you two together. It's almost time to start." She said excitingly. "Everyone was freaking out because you two were still not in your proper places."

Kurt rolled his eyes and grabbed Blaine's hand.

"Here we are, already to go. Lead the way Rachel."

Rachel just as quickly as she entered turned and exited the door. Kurt gave Blaine a quick kiss on the cheek to reassure Blaine of any lingering insecurities and the boys followed.

Blaine had never seen so many people in one place. The main hall was filled with people dressed in lavish and exquisite dresses and suits. Blaine tried to work his way through the crowds to make it to where he was instructed to go. He supposed to find Sean at the end of the staircase. He was taken by surprise when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned and saw Sebastian.

"You look good Sebastian."

"As do you Blaine. I just wanted to say good luck tonight. I'm nervous and I'm just a spectator."

"Thanks. I just don't want to make Kurt look bad."

"I'm sure you have nothing to worry about."

"I have to go find my spot. I'm pretty sure everyone is waiting for me."

"Of course. I didn't mean to keep you."

"This is going to sound random but is your dad here?" Blaine asked.

"Not yet, but he did promise me he was coming. I'll make sure he behaves."

Blaine nodded and hurried to the opening he saw by the stairs where Sean was.

"I'm here." Blaine said.

"Finally. Now, don't forget after Kurt speaks you will walk up, take his hand and move into the ballroom where you two will start the first dance but you will eventually be joined by Burt and Carole and Finn and Rachel. Then once the song ends the floor will open up to everyone."

"I understand."

Sean then talked into his earpiece.

"I have Blaine in position. We have confirmation that all is ready. Let Prince Kurt's coronation ball, begin."

As soon as those words were spoken gentle music filled the air and all guest talking instantly stopped and all eyes turned to the top of the grand staircase. There was gentle applause as Finn and Rachel walked down. Finn looked handsome and Rachel was in a custom made gown. When they reached the bottom Finn addressed the audience.

"On behalf of myself and the rest of my family I would like to welcome everyone here tonight. This is a very special occasion as we are celebrating Kurt's final night as a Prince and prepare for tomorrow when he will become your reigning King. This is a very symbolic event and hope everyone enjoys their time here. Now let me be proud to introduce my step-father and mother, King Burt and Queen consort Carole."

There was greater applause and Burt and Carole made their appearance and made the same walk down the stairs as Finn and Rachel moved off to the side. Burt smiled and waved at the people before speaking.

"Hello everyone. I want to personally thank all of you for coming out tonight to celebrate my son's final night as a prince. Kurt has overcome many things in his life, the hardest being the death of his mother when he was so young. She was a kind and loving Queen and more importantly mother. Her death affected those who knew her personally and the country as a whole. Losing ones mother so soon would be hard on all of us and it's no secret that we saw Kurt go through an extended rough path. However, tonight is to celebrate the future because starting tomorrow Denmark will have a new king. Kurt has grown in maturity so much over the past few months that I am in full confidence handing him the crown. I know that Carole and Finn agree with me and that Elizabeth would be so proud of the man her son has become. So I am proud to introduce my son, you next king, Prince Kurt."

There was a roar in applause as Kurt took his spot at the top of the stairs. He looked into the crowd and felt very overwhelmed. But then he spotted Blaine and the way he was looking up at him instantly relaxed. He smiled and waved as he walked down the staircase in his custom made suit. He gave his dad a hug as he reached the bottom. He took a deep breath and started to speak.

"I want to also thank everyone for coming out tonight. I know most people thought at some point over the last couple years that I was nowhere ready to take over the throne. My behavior was not one fit for a prince let along a king. I hope that over the last few weeks I have been able to show you that I have changed and am ready to start this new chapter for my family and this country. I can't promise to be as good as my dad. I have my faults and I am still working on mastering all the duties that will be placed upon me tomorrow. Making these speeches is definitely one of them." The room laughed as Kurt collected his thoughts. "What I can promise is that I will uphold the dignity and respect that being a king demands and that our country demands. I want to thank my father for everything he has done to help prepare for this moment. He has always had my best interest in mind, even if I couldn't see that at the time. I also want to thank Carole and Finn for making our family a real family again. I love them so much. And lastly, I want to thank my mom, Elizabeth. Although she can't be here in person I want her to know how much she meant to me. She was everything, not only a member of royalty but every human being should be. She was patient, kind and understanding to everyone. So, I will keep those attributes in mind as I accept the throne tomorrow. I want to continue her legacy in everyway I can. So as I end this speech I want to everyone to enjoy tonight and the great things that are to come."

Kurt took a step back as the roar of applause. He soaked it all in for a moment until he felt someone take his hand. He looked and saw Blaine smiling at him. Kurt smiled back squeezed Blaine's hand. When the applause died down and the musicians started playing again. Blaine and Kurt walked by the crowd and into the ballroom and took their marks.

"Ready to wow them with our waltz?" Kurt quickly whispered.

"As long as I don't fall on my face and became the next punch line somewhere, I'll call it a win." Blaine responded.

As the rest of the people entered the room the first note for their dance was played. Blaine followed Kurt's lead like they rehearsed and never missed a step. Him and Kurt were in perfect sync. And after the first few notes it was like they were the only two in the room.

"I love you." Blaine said quietly.

"I love you too." Kurt responded.

And with just the simple way they were looking at each other, not a sole in the palace would have disagreed.

Sebastian sighed as he waited outside the ballroom. No offense, but to him once you have see one waltz you see them all, despite the situation. No, he had more important things to worry about. Well a more important person. He stepped away and took out his phone and tried to call his father again. And just like before he got his voicemail.

"Damn it." He said to himself. He knew his father was up to something.

"Something wrong son." He heard from behind him.

Sebastian turned and saw his father.

"It's about time you got here."

"I had some business to take care of."

"What kind of business?"

"I've already told you, nothing that you have to concern yourself with."

Axel went to enter the ballroom and to his surprise Sebastian moved to stay in his way.

"Son, please move. I have to make my appearance at the ball."

"No."

Axel took a step back.

"Excuse me?"

"I said no. You do not have to go in there. I will not let you ruin this day for Burt, Kurt or even Blaine-"

"Blaine? Why the hell do you care about him all of a sudden?" Axel asked.

"He is my friend."

"Your friend, since when? Not even a month ago you couldn't stand him-"

"I've changed. I don't let you control me, my life or my actions anymore. I am your son not some puppet you can use whenever you want when things don't go your way."

"I do the things I do so you can have a good life."

"I don't need a luxurious life father. All I ever wanted was to make you proud, to have you take an interest in my life. But now I see that will never happen."

"Look, son, emotions are running high. Once things go back to normal, I'll bring you back into the family business more and-"

"I refuse."

"Stop being stubborn Sebastian. We will finish this conversation later. I have more important things to do."

"Really? Taking down a teenage American boy is more important than having a real conversation with your son. But you're right, this is not the time or place for this. So, you are going to leave and not disrupt this night for anyone."

Unfortunately, Sebastian had his back to the ballroom doors and Axel noticed the guards coming their way.

"I'm sorry son. But you brought this upon yourself." Axel whispered before jolting around him and towards the guards.

"Mr. Smythe, is everything okay out here?" One of the guards asked.

"No, guards please help," Axel said in fake distress, "My son just confided in me that he wants my help to stop the coronation."

"WHAT?" Sebastian yelled. "I did not say that."

"Guards, you have to protect the royal family and guests. I mean when I found him he was put here instead of inside watching the opening waltz. Why would that be unless he was plotting something?"

The guards looked at each other before walking over to Sebastian, grabbing him by the arm and leading him out of the palace as Axel smiled and walked into the ballroom.

I decided to end this chapter here because I wanted to get it up since I finally got it done. Next chapter will pick up where this one leaves off. We are getting close to the end and I wanted to thank everyone who is still here with me. Also, I kind of rushed to get it up tonight so any grammar/spelling mistakes are all mine.
