Hunter started crawling on a dreary, grey day in February and River might have had a small freak out about how quickly he was developing. Nebula was full of smiles as the baby clung to her feet while she went about her day to day activities, laughing when he'd shuffle his chubby limbs onto her lap when she was sitting. River expressed her surprise at how he seemed to be growing at a much quicker pace than most babies; surprise that Nebula dismissed with a simple "Timebabies are quick to mature". Hunter reaching over to give a comforting pat to his mother's hand probably didn't help.

The Doctor, of course, had been having long winded conversations with the baby ever since Christmas day so he almost completely missed his first words altogether. His little outcry of "Song!" when his mother walked past shocked her enough that her hand on reflex went to her hip, no gun to be found upon contact.

"Did he just-?"

"Did you just-?"

"No."

"You went for your gun! You were going to shoot our baby!"

"He surprised me! I wasn't expecting him to... him to... Did he just talk?"

"Wait, he did?" River raised an eyebrow at the Doctor's clueless expression, confusion quickly dissolving to delight when Hunter piped up with a "Yes!" in response.

It's no surprise that his first sentence is heard only two weeks later during an argument between the married couple when River said, "I hate you."

They both jumped when a little voice replied, "No, you don't!" and turned to see Hunter's grinning face. River sighed. The Doctor laughed.
