"Well? Any ideas?" Jazz asked Dani.

"How should I know?" Dani replied, "You're the smart one."

She was looking over Dani's shoulder as they both stared at a picture of a square gemstone. Jazz figured the text underneath the illustration was probablyy describing the gem in full. However, being unable to understand what it said, she couldn't exactly say that for sure. Dani turned the page not that it really helped much. They found themselve staring at another gemstone, a circle this time, with more text. Scowling, Dani flipped the pages several at a time before stopping at a random page and growling.

"This isn't working," she complained, "You're sure there's nothing in the library that'll help?"

"Nothing," Jazz said, "This is all we have."

"Well, all we have sucks."

"Having trouble, dearie?" Ida asked as she joined them.

"Yes," Jazz sighed, "We still can't figure out what this book says."

"The pictures aren't helping, dearie?"

"No."

"So, we're right back where we started," Dani said.

Frustrated, Jazz frowned at the book, "There's got to be something we're missing."

"Well, whatever it is, dearie, I hope you find it soon. That book is the only clue we have."

"Wait!" Dani looked up, "There's also that staff!"

"Staff?" Ida asked, "What staff, dearie?"

"That staff Penelope has in her study. It's got this weird red smoke inside that ball on top. There is no way that thing was made by anything human. We need a closer look at it."

"But how?" Jazz asked, "A missing book is one thing, but a missing staff? Penelope is definitely going to notice, especially since it's in that huge display case."

"Hm," Ida picked up the book from the table and rapidly turned the pages, "Maybe there's some sort of drawing of it in here, dearie."

Dani got up and stood right next to her wheelchair, "Even if there is, we wouldn't be able to know what it says. I still think we should- Hey! Wait! Stop right there!"

Ida looked up at her curiously, but did as she was told. Dani jabbed her finger at the page and motioned for her sister.

"You see this!" she exclaimed, "You see this necklace!"

Jazz looked at the illustration and widened her eyes. The pictured necklace wasn't colored, but it didn't have to be. Jazz already knew it was a green gemstone on a gold chain.

"She wore that at her wedding, didn't she?" she asked Dani.

"And when the maid died," Dani nodded, "And when everyone else died, too!"

"The Finder! It kept blaring when I put it on the jewlery box in Penelope's room! I thought it was because of the book, but it must have been that necklace that set it off!"

"You girls said she was wearing it when everyone died, dearies?" Ida looked from one girl to the next.

"Of course!" Dani smacked her forehead with her hand, "That's it! That necklace somehow killed them!"

"Well," Jazz asked mostly to herself, "Then how does the staff fit in to all this?"

"I don't know, but it's about time that we find out."

"Before you do, dearie," Ida interrupted, "Might I ask you two something? You girls talk like you're more familiar with this place than you were originally letting on. Now, why would that be?"

The two girls looked at each other, silently asking each other if they should finally tell.

"Well-" Dani started.

"See-" Jazz stammered.

"What happened was-"

"It was like this-"

"Okay! Fine, we were! See Vlad was-"

Bertrand's and Jack's shouting interrupted the two.

"I'll get you, ghost-scum! Just you wait!"

"Get away from me, you fat numbskull!"

Jazz and Dani sighed. Jazz took the book from Ida's lap and placed it into her bag. She joined her sister in the hallway with Ida right behind them. There they found Jack once again in pursuit of the butler while wielding a weapon in his hand. This time he held an oddly shaped metal device with a green button in its center. Unlike the Anti-Creep Stick, Jack successfully managed to hit his target by repeatedly bashing him in the head.

"How many times, you idiot! Ow!" Bertrand screamed, "How many times do I have to tell you Ow! Before it gets throught your Ow! Thick moronic skull Ow! I! Ow! Am! Ow! Not! Ow! A!"

There was a pause as the butler anticipated the next attack. Strangely enough, none came.

"Finally," he sighed before something hit him from behind, "Ow! Ghost! Ow!"

Mrs. Masters joined the women and looked on wearily at the scene before them, "What now?"

"Don't worry, ma'am!" Jack responded, not stopping his chase, "This Booo-merang will prove once and for all your butler's really a ghost in disguise!"

"Ow! I am Ow! Not!"

"How?" Mrs. Masters asked, too tired to dispute Jack.

"It locks on to a ghost's unique ecto-signature! Once its done that, it'll seek and go after that ghost no matter where it is!"

"I'm not Ow! A ghost! Ow!"

"And giving Bertrand a concussion is going to prove he's a ghost?"

"I'm trying to get the Booo-merang to lock on his ecto-signature, but it's not working!"

"That's because Ow! I'm not a ghost Ow!"

"Excuse me!" Jeremy and his wife stood behind Jazz and Dani, "But how is proving Bertrand's a ghost going to get my daughter back? She's been gone for almost two days now, and you idiots haven't found her yet! Isn't that the reason we hired you in the first place!"

"We didn't hire them," Mrs. Masters corrected him, "Star did."

"Hey," Jazz looked around, "Where is Star, anyway? I haven't seen her since we arrived this morning."

"Oh, I'm sure she's around here somewhere," Mrs. Masters waved her hand to dismiss her concern, "She likes to disappear sometimes."

"I don't care about a disappearing maid," Jeremy continued, "I care about my disappearing daughter! Now where is Samantha!"

"Don't worry, sir!" Jack replied, "Just as soon as this ghost reveals himself, I'll tear him molecule by molecule until he tells us where she is! And then, I'll tear him molecule by molecule even more!"

"What! Ow! Penelope! Ow!"

"Oh, you idiot," Pamela said crossly to her husband, "I've already told you a thousand times, she's run away."

"Good for her, dearie," Ida said.

"Shut up, you pesky leech! Samantha's run off to try to avoid getting married."

"I don't blame her, dearie."

"Wheel yourself in front of a speeding train, you warty old frog! If she thinks she's not going to get married to Dashiel, she's got another thing coming."

"Pamela, what is wrong with you!" Jeremy shouted.

"Everything, dearie."

"Throw yourself-"

"Shut up, Pamela! Just shut up! Your daughter, your own flesh and blood, has been missing for two days, and all you can think about is arguing with my mother and that damned wedding! What is wrong with you!"

"How dare you!" Pamela shouted back, "How dare you even suggest that I don't care about Samantha's well-being! It's because of her well-being that I am insisiting on this wedding!"

"There you again! The wedding this! The wedding that! May I remind you that there can't be a wedding when the bride has disappeared!"

"Samantha has not disappeared! She's run away! Probably back to whatever circle of Hell spawned your mother!"

Dani turned to Ida, "Can't you do something?"

Ida stared back at the couple, "What can I do? Quite frankly, I'm actually rather impressed Jeremy's finally standing up to that horrid display of a woman."

"Ow!" Bertrand continued to howl, "Penelope!"

"Enough!" Mrs. Masters shouted.

She grabbed Jack's wrist, causing him to let go of the device in surprise. It hit her on the head and she let out a cry of both shock and pain. The Booo-merang clattered to the ground before flying up into the air and smacked her at the back of her head. She let out another yelp and glared at it. It headed back towards her but Jack caught it first.

"Strange," he said as his daughters looked at each other knowingly, "That ghost-scum must be interferring with my devices somehow."

Bertrand let out a groan of despair, but Mrs. Masters ignored him.

"I have had enough! You've intruded into my home, harassed my butler, and destroyed my house! I demand you leave immediately!"

"I understand, ma'am," Jack gave her a salute, "I understand that ghost-scum's threatening you and your household!"

"I'm not-!" Bertrand started to protest.

"But don't you worry, ma'am! That ecto-vermin won't be able to control you for much longer! My daughters and I will head back to the inn we're staying at to recuperate from today's battle, but don't you worry! We'll be back tomorrow!"

"Oh, no you don't!" Mrs. Masters argued, "You're not going to-!"

"Run away from a fight? Of course not, ma'am! We Fentons never run from a fight!"

"Get out!"

"Come on, Father," Jazz said as she tugged him, "Let's go."

"What are you doing?" Dani whispered to her, "We still need that necklace!"

"We'll be able to sneak back later when she thinks we're gone."

Mrs. Masters looked at them curiously as they whispered to each other. There was something familiar about those two girls. She had been having this feeling since she first saw them, but the chaos between their father and her butler kept her too distracted to think about it much. But she still thought about it.

"Alright, girls," Jack turned and headed for the door before turning back to Bertrand, "Beware, ghost-scum! Tonight we leave, but tomorrow, we'll be back!"

Before he and Mrs. Masters could object, Jack and the girls turned around and headed for the front door. When they heard it shut, Bertrand followed after them. Mrs. Masters looked around at the damage before her. Mr. and Mrs. Manson had already left, still deep in their argument. Where the old woman was, she didn't know. Probably back into whatever hole she crawled out of. This left her alone with broken picture frames, vases, sculptures, and lord knows what else. The walls were all bashed in from either the Booo-merang or the Anti-Creep Stick. That disgusting green slime still covered the floors and the walls. Bertrand was probably going to be up all night cleaning this up. She heard a door slam from the opposite of the house. Dashiel walked in looking disgusted at the soil that covered him from head to toe.

"There," he growled as he dusted himself, "I'm done. What do you need a giant hole for, anyway?"

"Never mind that, darling," Mrs. Masters replied sweetly, "Why don't you clean yourself up?"

He grunted in response and headed up the stairs.

"Wait, Dashiel," Mrs. Masters remembered, "You put my necklace back, right?"

"Yeah, yeah," he answered, not stopping, "I put it back."

"They're gone, finally," Bertrand headed back into the hallway and scowled at the mess, "You kow what, this is all Star's fault! She can clean it up! I'm going to bed!"

"Actually, Bertrand," Mrs. Masters grabbed him by the collar and dragged him back, "Star is no longer under my employment. But forget about this mess for now. I need you to help me bury something."

He gave a weary sigh and followed her into the back garden, "So, where is she?"

"In the garden shed," she turned her head to where the Fenton girls were before, "Bertrand, did you recognize those two Fenton sisters at all?"

"I was a bit busy with their father to pay any attention. Why? Did you?"

She didn't answer. She finally realized who they were. They weren't sisters, they were cousins! Yes, she remembered now. Her stepdaughter and her cousin used to play at the mansion all the time! She knew the cousin eventually moved to Wisconsin with her father after Alicia had that heart attack. But her stepdaughter disappeared, or so she thought. Now only one question remained. A question that she ought to know, but it had been so long, she couldn't remember anymore, not to mention the girls had grown so much, making things even more difficult for her. Which one was the stepdaughter?
