Dani stared out of the window in the room she shared with both Jack and Jazz. Jazz sat on her bed studying the book. Jack had left for dinner at the inn's dining room downstairs. The two girls claimed they were too exhausted to eat and insisted their father go by himself. Alone at last, Dani and Jazz brainstormed as to how they would sneak back to the mansion.

"Obviously we can't use the front door," Jazz said, not looking up, "But what about the back door? We could sneak into the back garden and go in from there."

Dani shook her head and started pacing, "Bertrand locks up the back door before going to bed."

"Oh," Jazz was silent for a moment and stroked her chin, "We could go through a window."

"Which will also be locked," Dani stopped and grinned, "But the servant's entrance isn't!"

"It isn't?"

"No. Bertrand never locks that one just in case."

"In case of what?"

"I don't know," Dani shrugged, "He only said 'just in case.'"

"Well, at least we have a way to break in. Now, how are we going to get away from Father?"

"It shouldn't be too hard."

"No," Jazz agreed, " How about we tell him there's a ghost here? A wild goose-chase ought to keep him occupied for a while."

"I guess," Dani stopped pacing and stared out the window, frowning in irritation, "How much longer do we have to wait? We need to know what that necklace does."

"Well, look who's all eager to continue investigating all of a sudden," Jazz teased as she put the book back into her bag, "This morning you didn't want to get involved at all, remember?"

"Yeah, I remember. I guess I got scared."

"But not anymore?"

"Yes, I still am. But, I was being selfish this morning. Now, I'm not. Star hired us to find Ms. Manson, and that's what I need to do. I don't want her ending up like everyone else. And the sooner we get that necklace, the sooner we can stop Penelope and save Ms. Manson. Now, when are we leaving?"

Jazz looked out the window with Dani, "I guess it's late enough. Everyone at the mansion should be settling down to bed by now. Come on. Help me gather a few things."

She and Dani scrambled around their small room as they packed a few gadgets into their bags. When they were finished, they left their room and went downstairs to the dining room in search of Jack. It wasn't hard to find him. He sat in the center of the room enjoying his sandwich. The only other customers inside was the young couple whom Jazz and Dani recognized from last night after their father had accidently stolen their horse. The girls walked up to Jack's table. He was about to take another bite when he noticed them standing next to him.

"Hey there, Jazzy-pants and Dani-girl! Decided to join me after all? Good thinking, girls. You're going to need all your strength to confront the butler tomorrow! Here, have a bite!"

He offered the rest of his half-eaten meal to them. They grimaced in disgust.

"Actually," Dani pushed his arm back, "We're not here to eat. We need to tell you something."

"What's the matter? Nervous about the butler ghost? Don't you worry, Dani-girl. We'll get him! He plays a shrewd game, but we'll beat him yet!"

"It's not that," Jazz said, "I'm sure we'll get Bertrand tomorrow. We need to tell you that the inn keeper stopped by. Well, Mr. Poindexter told us something we think you should know."

"Is it about the bathroom fire?" Jack scowled, "I already told him it was an accident. And besides, the sinks weren't burned that badly. You can still use them. Just ignore the smoky smell."

"Uh, no. No, it's not about the fire. Mr. Poindexter heard that we catch ghosts, and he told us that he thinks there's a ghost problem here."

"Really?" Jack replied excitedly as a grin spread across his face, "Where?"

"Right there," Dani pointed to the couple, "The blonde guy. Mr. Poindexter said he's been coming here for months pretending to be a guest. But, everytime he checks in, spooky stuff happens. Which is why we need to help."

"You're right, Dani-girl," their father stood up and slammed his napkin onto his plate, "We do need to help. But, I don't have my equipment. You girls stay here and keep an eye on the ghost while I go back to our room."

"No need," Dani took out the Bazooka and Weasel, "We've already got them for you."

"Atta girl," he took the devices and aimed the Bazooka, "Ready, aim, fire!"

At the sound of 'fire,' the couple looked up and turned towards the Fenton's direction. BANG! The noise surprised Paulina so much, she fell out of her chair as her husband was covered in green goop.

"Ugh!" he shouted in disgust and stood up, "What are you-!"

"Surrender, ghost-scum!"

BANG! The blast hit Mr. Thirteen square in the chest and forced him backward into his chair. Both the chair and Mr. Thirteen toppled onto the floor. BANG!

"I have you now, ecto-vermin! You don't fool Jack Fenton!"

"What is going on here!" a small man with wire-framed glasses demanded as he marched in, "Oh, no. Not you again."

"Don't you worry, sir!" BANG! "Your ghost problem is almost over!"

"Ghost problem? What ghost problem?"

BANG! By this time, Mr. Thirteen and his wife had began to run with Jack close behind still shooting at them.

"Unhand that girl, ghost-fiend!" BANG!

"Get away from us, you fat idiot!" Mr. Thirteen shouted back as Paulina got slimed from the Bazooka.

"Ew!" she cried out, "Get this stuff off of me!"

"He's attacking her!" Jack shouted, "Let her go, vile villain!" BANG!

"Will you stop that!" Mr. Poindexter chased after Jack.

"Don't worry, sir!" BANG! "Everything is under control!" BANG!

"You're destroying my inn!" BANG!

"Have you lost your damn mind, you moron!" Johnny shouted.

"Eat ecto-plasm, you ghost-freak!"

BANG! "I'm not a ghost, you lunatic!"

"Stop that!" BANG! "My inn does not have a ghost problem! Now stop!"

Dani and Jazz watched as they all ran round and round the dinining room which was now a mess of slime, turned over furniture, and scorched walls. Jazz motioned for Dani to follow her out towards the entrance. They ran for the door, but unfortunately, weren't paying attention and ran into a dark-haired woman coming in.

"Oof!"

They all cried as they crashed into each other and their belongings spread everywhere across the floor. They all mumbled apologies to each other and scrambled to pick up their things. The woman picked up the book that fell out of Jazz's bag and started to hand it back to her, when she suddenly screamed and dropped it back on the floor.

"What!" Dani and Jazz said together, "What happened? What is it?"

"That!" she pointed at the book, "That thing! What are you doing with it! Destroy it! It's evil!"

"You know what it is?" Jazz asked, suddenly interested in her new companion.

"Of course I know what it is!" she scowled at her, "I am gifted with the sixth sense! I know everything about the spiritual world! And I also know that book is evil! Destroy it!"

"Can you tell us what it says, Ms.-" Dani stammered, not knowing her name.

"Desiree," the woman answered, "My name is Desiree. And no, I will not tell you what it says! You two girls are foolish enough to have that book in your hands. I'm not going to assist you in whatever else sort of foolishness you're up to!"

"No, you don't understand, Ms. Desiree," Jazz pleaded, "We're looking for a woman who disappeared at the Masters' mansion."

"Good," Desiree snorted, "The world is a better place without Mrs. Masters. That woman is nothing but pure evil. I can sense it."

"Penelope's still there. The woman who went missing was supposed to marry Penelope's son, Dashiel. But she's disappeared! We think Penelope may have done something to her!"

"How do you know she didn't run away? Any woman with brains would run away from an idiot like Dashiel."

"But we've searched everywhere," Dani said, "No, Penelope did something. We know she did. And we think that book can prove it. Problem is, we don't know what it says."

"So will you please help us," Jazz continued.

Desiree glared at them for a moment and then sighed heavily, "Fine. I'll help. What do you want?"

"What does this book say?" Jazz picked it up and handed it to the woman, "Penelope claimed it was in her family for years."

Desiree turned the pages as she explained, "It's a spell book. A dark magic spell book. The spirit who wrote this wanted an accord of all of the dark magic that has ever been cast throughout time. He kept it in his clock tower for safekeeping, but someone stole it. It was never found."

"Well, obviously Penelope found it," Dani said, "But how?"

"I cannot tell you that. But I can tell you that if this book gets in the wrong hands, it can open the door for all sorts of evil to escape into our world. Take this spell for example," she stopped turning the pages and pointed at a paragraph of foreign text, "This one summons the spirits of the dead back from the grave. All sorts of spirits. Spirits angry at our world so much, that they are filled with nothing but hate and vengance."

"Creepy," Jazz murmured.

"Indeed," Desiree slammed the book shut and handed it back to her, "Now I don't know what it has to do with your disappearing bride. But I do know that thing needs to be kept safe from Mrs. Masters. If you're going to ignore my advice and destroy that thing, then you must, absolutely must, guard it from that evil woman at all costs!"

BANG! They were interrupted by the Bazooka. Mr. Thirteen and Paulina, now completely covered head to toe in slime, had made a run for the stairs with the husband still shouting insults at Jack.

"What the hell-?" Desiree blinked.

BANG! "I'll get you ghost-scum! I'll never quit!"

"Get away from me, you insane hippo!"

"Stop destroying my business!" BANG!

Jack followed the couple with Mr. Pointdexter right behind him. The smaller man grabbed the Bazooka and attempted to wrestle it away from Jack. BANG! He fell over backwards. The ecto-plasm all over him glued him to the floor. As he struggled to get up, Jack continued the chase.

"You'll never win, ghost-varmint!"

BANG! "I'm not a stinkin' ghost, you overgrown rhino!"

BANG! Desiree continued to stare at the chaos before her, not noticing that Jazz and Dani had slipped away outside. Though they were no longer in, they could still hear mess they're father was making.

BANG! "Get back here, ghost-punk, so I can tear you apart!" BANG!

"You're insane, you bumbling elephant!" BANG!

"Help! Somebody help me up and get Walker!"
